RE: Boondocking and working with no electricity

Going solar depends a lot on where you are going to use it. Michigan ranks 47th out of the 48 continual states in available sunshine.

RE: Ford Roadside Assistance

"Self insure, every time someone offers you a warranty of some kind put that money into your own warranty acct and use it when/if you ever need to. You'll be surprised how your investment grows especially because you won't be using it. " Amen to that statement . I find "piece of mind" doing exactly that. X-2 Dusty

RE: Atwood 8500 series furnace bench test on high limit switch

That switch should never need to open. If it does there is not enough air moving through/over the furnace.

RE: Harbor Freight - what happened to the 20% off coupons

Mr Wizard, mentioned the lines for buying TP. I'm wondering if the people that bought shopping carts full of TP, if they have used it all up yet?

RE: Vortex II fans

I put a MaxxAir 1200T on our mh and liked it real well. In the summer of 2013 we traded for a new mh, then I went to get a new MaxxAir 1200T for our new mh, I learned that the 1200T was no longer available.

RE: Using RV generator as backup for house?

I haven't worked on a furnace for over 20 years. I'd do a little more research. Start by checking and see if the breaker that powers the circuit that feeds is a 2 pole breaker. Or a small transformer could be used feed the fan motor or furnace.

RE: 170VAC coming from my Onan generator

Does your genset seem like it is running at a higher rpm than normal? You can buy cheap HZ meter plug it into your 120 v socket and adjust the speed to read the correct HZ at the proper rpm. Look and see what the output voltage is supposed to be. At that voltage it is also running at 60 HZ, this has to do with the building of the generator. So using a decent volt meter will do. If there is an adjustment on the governor I would try slowing the engine down while watching the output voltage, setting it at or a whisker over.

RE: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?

Zachcycles, Glad to hear you testify. I've been retired for 20 years as an electrician from the constriction industry. We have had 3 mh from 1988 and never had/used a surge protector power monitor. I will admit that we seldom go to a camp ground where there is a place to plug in. Also we get fresh water where we can and have never used a water filter. Also we do not use bottled water. Dusty

RE: ..Looking for a new air compressor for the MH tires etc..

I don't remember what make or how long I've had my 12v compressor, i've used a few times. What I like most is that you can set the pressure that you want it to shut off at.

RE: Where to put that pesky TV

We had an '01 24' Itasca with a cabinet like that but deeper and with a door that rolled to the top inside that healed a TV. the cabinet was deeper because back then TV's still used a picture tube. We slept in the bed above the cab. So I made a nice ladder that leaned against that open cabinet. I made it out of 1/2x 1-1/2" Oak. It had a notch on the back side that hooked onto the cabinet so it could not slide down, and the top step/handle was as wide/long as the cabinet so it could not slide sideways. Dusty

You can remove the thermal couple and check it with a propane torch and DC millimeter. Dusty

RE: Flat Towing New Ford Ranger Behind Class C

I have a 20' flat bed trailer that I haul antique tractors and equipment to shows and our car to warm weather and sunshine in the winter. I use an equalizing hitch/with anti sway bar which helps real well. It has two 3500 lb axels. Dusty

RE: Class C Motorhome With My Wishlist

We have a 2014 27' Itasca. It has everything on your list except the diesel and the electric step, in fact it does not have an outdoors step. We've had a mh with a pull out step and also one with an electric step, this Itasca has 2 steps inside with the house battery under one. Makes it easy to get to.

RE: Roof plumbing vent stack cap replacement

We had an '01 class C that I put a MaxxAir power vent on the bathroom roof hatch. It had about 160 deg. bend, and a fan at the outlet end of the outlet. I really like that vent. The fan was multi-speed and reversible. Also you could leave it open and rain would not come in. In '15 we traded for a new Class C, I went to get a new MaxxAir like the old one, and then found out that model was no longer made. If I had known that I would removed the old one before we traded. Anyone know of one available, even used? Dusty I just remembered it was a MaxxAir 1200T

RE: 10" hitch riser

I have a bicycle carrier that goes in the trailer hitch. Instead of a pin, it has a nut welded in the hitch and a bolt that screws/tightens into the carrier. Are you certain it eliminates the play within the connection? I bolt my bike rack to my SUV, but the play remains. I was using it on the front of our mh. Yes it held good. Never used just a pin only so hard to compare.
