RE: Alternatives for Michelin XPS Ribs?

I took my sole 7 year old XPS Rib to a tire dealer as is had very slight cracking this Spring His inspection did NOT leave him wanting to sell me a new tire! So I put it back on the Fiver….. I’m running Bridgestone Duravis on the other axle I lost one XPS Rib to a nail on a IL Tollway Tollbooth ramp! Thanks IL Tollway??

RE: Which tire do I buy?

Perhaps the heaviest (tire weight- most rubber & Steel?) and most expensive can be determinants I run Michelin XPS Ribs on one axle and Bridgestone Duravis on the other So far these expensive tires have been worth it as we usually travel 3-4 K miles annually

RE: Roof AC Rep - Dometic Duo-Therm > Brisk Air II - Questions

Did have to replace the Thermostat for my new Brisk Air 2 as my old 05 Montana had a legacy “fancy “ Dometic Thermostat with a remote and a phone style connector that I think they only made for 2 years… Replaced Thermostat With Dometic “Single Zone LCD Thermostat “ 3313192 AC/Furnace Online Wiring diagrams enabled connecting the old wiring in the wall minus the legacy connector. Extension Ladder with DW pushing the box and I on the roof pulling with a rope worked well enough The rest was “easy “ I’ve replaced both AC units that way.

RE: Slow leak

Aluminum rims can corrode. That ended up being the reason the first two tire shops I went to couldn’t find the leak.

RE: 5th wheel or gooseneck?

The Star Performance Kingpin Gooseneck adapter has worked well for me since 2007... Usually I can get the adapter on my ball easily and never worry about it slipping off. The Reese Goosebox failed on me and was not replaced under warranty after it failed (Front Frame broken and Reese Goosebox movable part was BENT after hitting a TX pothole). Didn't like how it was supposed to be greased (via zerk) for every tow or how the airbag puffed out enough air after almost every tow it had to be refilled VERY slowly (have air compressor on board?)... maybe the design has improved? Coworker with same trailer as mine is using the Anderson Hitch successfully too - but doesn't tow nearly as much as I do.

RE: Tire life

My 8 year old Michelin XPS Rib and Bridgestone Duravis 500 tires survived just over 900 miles of travel on America’s Interstate Highways and you probably realize those aren’t always the smoothest roads especially when KY warned of a Rough Road! Maybe real infrastructure investment will improve things...

RE: Tire life

Well somehow on the Driver's side both my Bridgstone Duravis 500 and Michelin XPS Rib Tires have the same 342014 Build Dates despite different installation time (same year) and dealers! The Bridgeston Duravis looks great (its slightly heavier dead weight than the XPS Rib) and still has a lot of molded "spikes" remaining on the tire sidewall. The Michelin XPS Rib has a little sidewall age cracking and the Tread was very black compared to the dull gray sidewall so I took it to my tire dealer for an inspection and he confirmed the little cracks were superficial and did NOT want to sell me a new tire. So next month's tow 900 miles from AL to IA to sit once again for several months or more may prove or disprove longevity.... Also, none of my Bridgestone Duravis or XPS ribs were down more than 3 lbs pressure after 9 months sitting in storage through last summer, Fall, and this winter... But my Dually Truck rear outside Tire I tried to air up first, the Valve core failed as soon as I put the Pressure gauge on it! Will Infrared Temp check each wheel on every travel stop and swivel my head to the mirrors every ten minutes to keep an eye on my tires - Probably should have gotten a TST system but I don't want to fool with it now... Wish me luck!

RE: Tire life

I'm going to try to get 8 years out of my last almost 7 year old Michelin XPS Rib. (Michelin states replace after 10 years regardless of mileage) I lost one with a Wheel (!), and one to a Nail. I'll let you know if this summer's travels prove me wrong....

RE: 5th wheel tire review

I've got Michelin XPS Ribs on my front axle and Bridgestone Duravis R250's on the rear axle. Heaviest tires I could find in the 235 size. So far so good except for a nail in a XPS Rib (thanks expensive Illinois Tollway Tollbooth entry ramp) and losing a WHEEL with tire on a freeway in AL (just the spindle and some brake parts left!)! My experiment in durability continues....
