RE: StrangeThings

If I learn that an intersection has one of those “red light” cameras, i plan future trips in that location taking different routes, even if it’s a longer distance just so I can avoid that intersection. Fortunately, many cities are getting rid of theses “traps”, which were just devious ways to fine you unjustly. I’m dismayed to learn my location, Amarillo, still uses these cameras, whereas several other TX cities have stopped doing so. Curious why folks think they are "traps". If you aren't doing what you aren't supposed to be doing it's a moot point. If someone robs your store at night and a camera is enough to catch and prosecute them, that's a good thing. If you break a traffic law and a camera catches you, somehow it's a trap and an infringement on your rights? Many people think they're traps because they are. Don't forget that the people who make the most money from those cameras are the companies that build and install them. There have been reports that the duration of the yellow light was shortened after installation of red light cameras. And they do nothing to prevent accidents, they just slap the hand of the offender after the fact. Pure revenue generation. Red light cameras change driver's willingness to run red lights. And real cops hand out plenty of tickets at intersections w short duration yellows as well. Some have been known to trigger light changes w sensors built in the street to intentionally trap victims. But RLC don't involve risk on the part of the cops nor the driver, nor does it count against insurance and the insurance companies make the most when cops hand out tickets for moving violations. Unjust enforcement of laws is a huge problem, but RLC and the like are little reminders to obey traffic laws w/out the risk and expense of cops handing out tickets. So if you run a red light and get a ticket, how is that unjust?

RE: Disposable Razors Observation

Because of cheating I am going to try "Henry's" I have no idea if they are better, but I cannot afford the garbage put out by Gillette. Only their 5 blade flagship model performs decently but even purchased through Sam's or Costco, the price per shave is absurd. I also switched to NIVEA from Gel products. Everyone wants to be a billionaire. Try Darco 5 blade on Amazon Cheaper than disposables

RE: Pine tar on baseball bats

The factory they took us to (about 20 years ago) was across the River in Clarksville. May have moved back. My bad!

RE: Damage at Palo Duro Zip Line RV - Texas south of Amarillo

That's terrible, I feel bad for those folks. It looks like the coach didn't get blown over, but maybe one of the others was blown into it. I'm curious how insurance would handle something like that. Each carrier handles the individual insured units.

RE: Violent Windstorm, no roof

Well after a violent windstorm with gusts in the 70 to 80 mph range, most of the fiberglass roof of our rig sailed away. Estimate is 13K for a new fiberglass roof. Called Progressive and they made me jump through some hoops while knowing from our first call they would deny our claim. I can see their point of view, beside the loss of $13,000. What I can't abide is them knowing before the adjuster came out that they would deny the claim because my rig is too old and had deteriorated. Cancelling and going back to ACSC. New roof going on is a rubber and has a twelve year product guarantee and three year workmanship. Coast RV in Agoura is doing the conversion for $7500 including all new fitting on the roof except the skylight which is just a few months old. All claims have to be investigated. They certainly could not tell you over the phone your claim was denied or approved

RE: Unnecessary Warnings Shown on Products

Next there will be disclaimers warning to NOT WASH YER HAIR IN THE CAR WASH. Geesh :R I plan on washing the ht rod first day it is near 70 early. I get pretty sweaty. Thought about hosing down outside. Do you suppose Mequires wash and wax would give me a youthful sheen and managable hair? Pretty “slick”

RE: Texas winterizing...

My understanding is a different type of gear oil for the wind turbines (likely cheaper) is used in Texas due to the high Summer heat but freezes when cold.

RE: Ev charging in camps expectation of availability, cost

In Norway, they use twice the amount of electricity per capital than the US because of the EV charging. Just where would we get this electricity? In Germany they have had to resort back to fossil fuels because all of the solar is covered in ice and snow. Can EV, possibly. Is it the cure all, not likely.

Helped my nephew get through college. He has no debt and I feel those that incurred the debt MUST pay it.

RE: It might begin very soon

Ultimately they will likely be safer than human driven trucks. Will not get sleepy, distracted, driving while eating, etc. all while following driving rules and speed limits. Scarry is right!! Imagine how full of integrated circuits, complex mechanical components, and communications equipment (for Internet and/or satellite connectivity) ... those trucks will be full of. All of that can, and will, fail here and there over time. I hope that transportation regulations require those trucks to be clearly marked - including distinctive night lighting - so that the rest of us can stay well away from them on the highways. P.S. Maybe I spent too many years working in the integrated circuits industry and too many hours watching those cable reality shows about big rig accident disasters in Alaska - most which have nothing to do with human error - but can be blamed on 80,000 lbs. of freight inter-acting with the laws of physics. I worked in the IT sector also, it isn't only hardware, but the software that runs on it. Too many time in the rush to deploy new programs, there were always a "Work Around" or a situation that wasn't tested. what happens when the road is snow covered, and the chains required signs are up??? And all of those chips made in China!

RE: Unnecessary Warnings Shown on Products

I think we should remove some of the warning labels and let natural selection take over with some of these folks.

Progressive is not very good at handling your claim! May be cheaper but you’ll pay in the end.

RE: Speaking of large batch cooking-freezing leftovers?

I bought a Weston sealer, ditched the Seal a Meal after going through 3 of them. Found pasta doesn’t freeze well long term but short term ok. We seal and freeze a ton of stuff.
