RE: Tire UV Protection

Also a 303 fan. I dont want my tires all "shiny" but I do like them to look black. The uv inhibitors in the product is awesome on vinyl decals, interior of vehicles etc. I realize rv tires are expired in 5 or 6 years, but I do like to protect them as best I can during that time. There is a LOT riding on those babies, so I say do what you think is right to take care of them.

RE: Feedback on the new style entry steps

I don't own one with them, but of the hundreds I went into with them at the rv shows I really liked them. Full support of weight going in and out. There is no way they are cheaper to include vs the old style steps...but I suspect they will become "standard equipment" on all but entry level rigs. For me the downside would be all outside dirt gets in when folded inside. In addition, in storage I could never lower them if the rig beside me is within 4 feet of mine.
FLY 4 FUN 03/08/19 09:36pm General RVing Issues

I my Ram came with a larger OEM tank! I do plan my stops well in advance, but occasionally when we boondock we end up getting to the 1/4 tank mark so I toss in 5 gal from a jerry can. Would much rather have the option of factory ordering a 10-15 gallon larger tank as a buffer. I do have a 26gal water tank under my roll-n-lock so a fuel tank just wont fit in my short bed. When I retire I plan longer drives across Canada and would welcome the ability to not have to fill up every 450 km.

RE: Best solar trickle charger???

Im on the fence with your concern. I understand that the phantom loads are draining ur battery while in extended storage, but I would just pull the 30A fuse on the tongue before leaving it...problem solved. If you want to keep it "up and running" and put back more than the phantom loads take out then its going to take at least 25-40W of solar, wiring, charge controller etc to accomplish this. If its a portable system are you confident it wont be stolen? Unless you want to install a somewhat robust solar system for true charge capabilities I would just install an inexpensive cut off switch and use it in storage. Those tiny/cheap solar "maintainers" are in my mind simply useless in rv's and a cloudy week may mean you still show up to a dead battery. Just my .02

RE: Bike Hauling Question

Have to agree with carrying in back seat of truck or on rv bed if ur able to pull front tire. Since its just the 2 of us it takes seconds per bike to remove our front rim and they go in our Ram crew cab back seat. If we have passengers the bikes go in the rv in vapor barrier and on a cheap moving blanket on queen bed. I couldn't imagine leaving a high end bike out in plain view on any type of bike rack.

RE: Roof Mount Solar Panels, noisy during travel?

2 x 100W panels...have not noticed any additional noise due to their installation. I suspect different truck tires will be one of the largest contributors to noise vs panels/antennae's/ladders/bikes/etc mounted to Rv.

RE: Running CSST Flexible Propane Line

somewhere under there is likely a manifold where the main line splits to the fridge/furnace/hw tank. I would look for that and see if there are any unused plugs or just make a T there.

RE: What do you folks think of aluminum sided trailers?

Pro: light con: don't do well in a hail storm, and a bit harder to get washed with siding Honestly when I had aluminum siding I was happy and never really thought about it. Once I had smooth siding I liked the "look" of it and was easier to keep clean Daryll

RE: False Tire PSI Reading

I wonder if its just a issue with the cold temps allowing for false readings on the TPMS senders? I had many "false alarms" on my minivan with TPMS at extreme temps especially if parked up against a curb. Could there be some moisture in the valve stems causing errant readings on your gauge? Perhaps get it into a heated shop for a few hours and try your readings again. My 1 ton usually sits at 60-70psi for towing but was horrible on snow. I finally got smart and aired down to 45psi for winter driving as my contact patch at "towing specs" was tiny and dangerous! Hopefully this is just a weather issue and not batteries dying in the senders.

RE: Finding a CG has become such a frustrating pain in the....

You wanna see a frenzy, try booking for the National Parks! I was online at 8am to book Waterton for July and in 2-3 minutes all sites except a few stragglers were booked for the summer. With Whistlers in Jasper closed for 2019 the pressure is on the other parks. With AB prov parks its a 90 day window starting late Feb so I expect that to be a hectic day also. I hate being part of the rat race for booking, but with larger rigs one needs to plan especially for long weekends. I hope you find what your needing in sask. We have a family friend in Swift that is part of the tourism/marketing dept and she helps educate us on what's available there. She part-times in Sask landing most summers.

RE: Buying 1st Travel Trailer Go Large or Not?

I'm not an expert, but I did own a 2004 ram 1500 hemi 4x2 with 3:53 rear end. Set up a Equalizer brand hitch according to specs and towed my Jayco 30' 6" TT all over the place and it weighed right around 7500LBS going down the road. The rear end ratio made it a bit weak until up to speed. On calm days and without any water or fire wood our family of 4 got around pretty well. I did get sway from the odd semi/bus passing me especially in cross wind situations so there was some white knuckle moments at times. Truck was not powerful on hills at all, but it got us where we were going. To add 4-5 more feet in length, and 1000-2000 more lbs weight I would say not a great plan at all. Everybody has different thresholds for safety...but I would vote a big thumbs down to your proposed setup. A 3/4 ton or a 1 ton gas or diesel will mean a heavier tow vehicle to control that long/heavy of a travel trailer. My .02 as somebody who lived with a "marginal" setup for 4 seasons. Daryll

Some years I wonder why hundreds of thousands of Canadians "snowbird" in the states!!! When I wake up to blizzards like today as Mike mentioned I understand the desire to bail on winter and head south.... Daryll

RE: Bubbles in toilet ???

I'm guessing you have a "pile" right at the base of the pipe where it drains into the tank. Being as they are only 5-8" deep it doesn't take much to partly obstruct whats coming down the pipe. Perhaps fill the tank with fresh water and let it sit a few days, then drain/fill again. Can you shine a flashlight down the toilet to see if you see the tank? When our tank "burps" its either near full or cant get air behind water.

RE: Towing with a Tundra

I cant comment on towing with your new tundra. With the equalizer on a new vehicle, I would for sure start over and do all the measurements as recommended by your hitch manufacturer. The secret to proper weight distribution and sway control is taking the time to set up the equalizer. Hope you enjoy the new rig

RE: Solar trickle charger

Depending on the parasitic loads that your rig has...I doubt that 20W will keep things charged on anything but perfectly sunny days in winter. The angle of the sun is too shallow and modern rigs have items consuming 12V more so than 10-20 years ago. I would first check the fluid levels in the batteries and disconnect them from loads if able. I don't want to call a 20W panel useless...but most folks who toss a tiny panel on their dash find out fast its just not enough. I like to bring my batts indoors and put on a Deltran Battery Tender as needed in winter.

RE: Millennials and RVs

Just judging by how challenging it is to book rv sites around Alberta...I believe there is still a good chunk of humanity out camping. Not sure I want to even touch on what each generation does vs the previous one, but I do enjoy my "glamping". Our 5er has so much more than ones my folks had and truly who cares what others do when they camp. When im at a national park I hike/bike/sight see till im exhausted. Just because the million dollar rig next to me sets up and never comes be it. Were both enjoying the place so who am I to judge them based on age/wealth/etc. Its a hobby and a passion that we all partake in at our own pace so lets all enjoy.

RE: It snowed yesterday

Good to see i'm not the only one who stands out in snowbanks and takes photos/inspects my rig! As I type this our local RV show is about 3 weeks away and I have already booked a national park for July so the season is "coming". Cheers to all those also afflicted with RV Daryll
