RE: Winterization of RV

I have used my rv year round for the past 4 years. The key is to use the furnace. The colder it gets the more the furnace needs to run. Im not sure where the waste tanks are located. Mine are external. I had to make provisions for these. But the internal piping is original. Tested to -20°.. I only winterized once -28°. There's no telling what's going to freeze freeze without testing. That being said,, since it's a rental i would winterize.

RE: Painting the Walls of the 5er

Do it right and do it once. The paint is your base for the wallpaper.
I wouldn't apply wallpaper over paint that does not adhere to the wall.

RE: Oven ignitor

I have a '92 Magic Chef. The pilot light is so faint i can hardley see it when it's lit. I have accidentally left it on after a tank change. It discharges so little gas i can't smell it. My guess is if you left it on all the time it would take years use a tank of gas.

RE: Need help with a SF 30 Suburban Furnace

So you are saying you got gas and spark but no fire.. I just put a new motor (it was going bad)I thought I want getting the correct air flow. I replaced the sail switch. Finally I replaced the igniter. I set the igniter where it was set at the factory. I still got it light intermittently. Not a good scenario for winter. I got out the owners manual and set the igniter as specified which was not even close to the way it came from the factory..yet it worked for 20 years.. To my surprise, problem solved.

RE: How long can you go on a 50 amp extension cord?

By store bought you mean pre-made wire sections..My experience says if your running near 50amp the plugs will burn up first

RE: Turning off the generator with the AC going?

Does not hurt the Genset. What is DOES hurt are the contac points in the 120 volt Transfer switch. It causes "arcing" on the points and over time will cause the Transfer switch to malfunction.
Actually this is not quite correct.. been shutting down the generator under load for years without incident, but once I was under load and plugged in to shore power, cycled the generator when the transfer switch to the generator the i could heat the buzz. The shore power burnt the contacts off the transfer switch.. won't do that again

RE: Generator Issues

My feeling is..$350 vs $50.. you could replace it 7 times and break even.. just don't use that thinking on things that could blow up

RE: Question on charging batteries with Gen

We have lived in our rv for 4 winters here in the northeast, 2 of those years in a parking lot. I have 240 watts of solar and a 4k generator.. the thing that was a hand changer for us was the automatic generator start system wired to the electric heat. Furnace rings the batteries down, generator starts, turns on the electric heaters, batteries get charged, generator turns off,..repeat

RE: 6 Volt Interstate batteries

I went from interstates to trojans..I believe there is a huge difference.. but then again I went from 2 dead interstates to 2 fresh Trojans..I can tell you that after 4 years the Interstates were done and after 5 years the Trojans are still going strong

RE: Reflectix on window, long-term?

Why any builder thinks you need 2 huge windows by a bed
Its so when your arm hits the blinds in the middle of the night, your wife knows it
