RE: Solution to Trash Left Behind!

It's really not a new problem it's just that the population has grown so much that the effects of the same percentage of thoughtless people is greatly magnified by the sheer increase in their numbers. My grandfather was stationed in the UK during WWII(he was an original antifa) and was cited for littering. He threw his drink can and paper trash out the window of this Jeep without even thinking about it. He told me that back then Americans were still unaware of the impact of litter, but Europe was not. He never littered again after that. When I see people litter I helpfully pick it up and give it back to them, "You dropped this"

RE: Crack on outer wall of 2014 Lance 992

I haven't heard of a stop hole before. Thanks. Yeah that's above the upper right corner of the kitchen slide out.

RE: Solution to Trash Left Behind!

It is sign of the times, or changing culture. But then there is the cleanup challenge. There are a lot of young folks doing very good things.

RE: Crack on outer wall of 2014 Lance 992

Could be a stress crack. A ladder was on the camper and then the jacks were lowered. Heard a crash and saw the ladder go down. Discovered the crack days later.

Crack on outer wall of 2014 Lance 992

A ladder fell over and hit our Lance and created a crack about 3-4 inches long. What should I use to repair/fill the crack? Just caulk or should I use some special cement?

RE: rodent repellent

We had pack rat move into our truck during our last extended camping trip. I cleared out the nest, which had a small rodent mummy the rat was keeping for some reason, and opened the hood for a couple of days. The good thing about an open hood is it's a great place to hang a hummingbird feeder. Anyway, we drove into Laramie to dump and restock and my wife wanted me to look between the sidewall and the camper to see if there was any water(we had an intermittent leak) and I saw the rat. So I started taking off the turnbuckles and my wife started the jacks. This threw me off because it's not my usual routine so I jumped into high gear to get the turnbuckles off before she got too far with the jacks. I missed a turnbuckle and the camper only came up part of the way. I panicked and went to open the turnbuckle but my wife stopped me before I got hurt and I lowered the camper back down undid the turnbuckle and then raised the camper again. I pulled forward about halfway to take a look and the rat was passed out in the truck bed. Screwing up the turnbuckle actually worked in my favor because the rat got a little crushed when I lowered the camper. He surely would have found another spot to hide under the bed once I removed the camper. I used a turnbuckle to sweep him out of the bed and he woke up, but he was pretty badly injured and couldn't move quickly. I finally got him on the pavement and my wife attempted to put him in a bag and take him elsewhere. All the while a truck with a couple of people were watching this hearing my wife scream a couple of times when the rat moved toward her. It must have been quite entertaining because they didn't leave until it was all over. Now I always open the hood when camping in pack rat country and I will make sure I have moth balls between the camper and the truck.

RE: Finaly got my new ARB locker!

I was in the NW forest in snowy conditions with my AF1150 and being naive...thought that my 4x4 was just that...WOW was I wrong. I didn't know what the difference was between a full floating Dana 60 and locker really was. I'm not so smart right? Smarter than me. I have no idea what you're talking about. :)

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

Today I tested the battery and inverter by running the air conditioner and the microwave at the same time. It works!

RE: Why do I need a DC to DC charger?

YOU ABSOLUTELY DO NEED A DC-DC CHARGER !! Now I wonder how could I survive 34 years of RVing without one? :S Agree, 16 years and three trucks on, never the slightest hint of a problem while having two 6v Golf Cart batts.... Far better to invest in some solar... Are they LiFePo4 batteries? That's the key here. You don't need a DC-DC charger for FLA or AGM but you definitely need it for LiFePo4 if you want to be able to charge the batteries from your truck.

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

I pulled the battery, then removed the battery compartment door and the plastic battery compartment. I upgraded to LiFePo4 a few months ago and I don't need to keep the battery separate from the cabin air and I need the space to install an inverter. Rewiring the compartment is next.

RE: Campsite Squatters

I do the same thing but come hunting season, there are no places to go where others aren't..It's during hunting season they all reserve there spots by leaving there rigs there prior to actually being there...It's just the way things are here, nothing you can do about it. I'm not surprised. Idaho is where we were when a 3 trailer group decided to camp right next to us and when they left they drained their black tank on the way out.

I think he’s saying that people following the rules are selfish. You are quite wrong.

RE: "Infinite" Battery?

But if you squish the graphite into a diamond, how do you keep the go-juice from squeezing out? Handling or Nuke waste and cheaper are two words I don't want to see in a sentence. The "go juice" is two additional neutrons per atom. Changing graphite to diamond does not alter the atoms, just the arraignment.

RE: "Infinite" Battery?

Yeah the physics works out. It's very clever yet simple. This will be great for pacemaker and other implantable devices. If it becomes ubiquitous you could have streetlights and flashlights which never need additional energy.

RE: Campsite Squatters

Are you trying to be insulting or is it just my interpretation? Take a deep breath or two. I think it’s your interpretation just like I think it’s your interpretation of how those other campers are supposed to act. Somehow, you think everyone has to agree with how you think those areas should be used. I’d just go explore and find other places to camp if it bothers you that much. You might find that you like those other places better away from the crowds. You're doing a lot of interpretation here. It's not that I think everyone should agree with me on how those lands are being used. People are misusing them and treating them as their own privately owned land. I was just wondering if this is a common thing. I have seen a lot of bad behavior from others while boondocking in public lands from minor annoyances like this to people dumping their blackwater in campsites as they leave. I'm not big on rules, but I do like to be fair when it comes to shared resources and expect others to be fair too.

"Infinite" Battery?

A battery that never needs charging? I hope I live to see this technology go mainstream.

RE: Cheater Vent - Air Admittance Valve

Get a better AAV valve, not the cheap one.http://mobileimages.lowes.com/product/converted/764651/764651203684.jpg?size=pdhi About 25 bucks. This is the one I bought and still ran into issues, until I sealed it. When this valve didn't help I just sealed it up and made sure the sink drains were closed when not in use.

Cheater Vent - Air Admittance Valve

The air admittance valve(AAV) also known as a cheater valve was not closing properly in my TC and was stinking up the place. I sealed it off since I already have a vent on the roof. Now I'm wondering, do I really need an AAV? I don't have one under the sinks in my house and they work just fine and water flowed into the gray tank without issue when I sealed it up during our trip. Opinions and experiences welcome.

RE: Campsite Squatters

Being rude is not against the law either, and yet most people have a problem with that. If you think most people agree with you, feel free to get the rules changed. Are you trying to be insulting or is it just my interpretation? My point was that not all civilized behavior toward each other necessarily requires rules. Rules are generally created when people start acting in ways that abuse the trust that was given. Obviously BLM and FS dispersed camping rules don't mean you can use recreation lands that belong to all of us to store your stuff and hog the best spots that others could be using.
