RE: Limited selection

OP, I'm not a brand loyalist but other's and I can only share what we read, reviewed and experienced. I don't have a GD but from what I read and been told they back what they sell. I don't have an endless amount of cash so after having two fifth wheels from Northwood and only having a couple of minor issues we will probably purchase another Northwood if in the future we should desire another RV. Just review all of the RV sites and read owners complaints and how each manufacturer responded. No one wants to purchase an RV and have it sitting on a lot for months waiting while a dealer and manufacturer fight over who or if they will repair it. Buy the RV you and your family will enjoy. Happy travels

RE: Limited selection

Go with what you like. My buddy has a GD and love's it. Whenever he had an issue they responded right away and ship it right out. We have a Northwood Arctic fox and love it. The only problem we've had is broken pendants lights due to the roads. Which one does your wife like? Good luck and happy travels.

RE: How about some common courtesy...

I understand, but a question. What do you guys do when it's 100 degrees plus outside all day and 90 at night? We have a 2400 dollar Yamaha generator and it quit for a generator. After reading blog after blog of generator complaints we decided not to use except in emergencies and just stay in resorts with full hookups.

RE: Damaged RV on roads on way home from Florida, anyone else?.

Funny this topic is being discussed. Just a few days ago there was news peace on the roads and bridges across our country and it is bad. Happy and safe travels.

RE: Damaged RV on roads on way home from Florida, anyone else?.

Sorry to hear about your RV. I don't know about Floria's roads and or highways but in California, the roads have been bad for years and our gas tax for road repair has gone crazy. State Government is never held accountable. Our tax dollars for road repair and maintenance have been used for other programs. Just in the past few years, our roads are slowly being repaired. I know this will not help.

RE: 2nd AC installed - Penguin II - Cold enough?

We installed a 2nd AC in our 30ft Fifth Wheel a couple months ago. Decided to go with the Penguin II low Profile 13.5 BTU over the bedroom area. Everything seems to work, it powers on and you can tell a difference when the compressor kicks on, but it just doesn't seem to get as cold in the bedroom area as I expected. Now I haven't had it on that much (we haven't taken any trips in it yet), but overall, i'm underwhelmed by its performance. I've only run it off the household current (20V). We have a 15K BTU AC as the main AC unit, and I can leave it on all day and the trailer will get chilly inside, but the bedroom one just tends to get somewhat cooler. I've done a bit of research, and some people say the 2nd AC makes the bedroom area an ice box when it is left on. Of course, others say it just cools it down. What makes me really wonder, is I had left the 2nd AC on all night (on high) the other night (forgot it was on) and when I went into the trailer the next morning, it didn't seem cool at all. Figured it might have froze over the night, so I let it sit all day and turned it on the next day. Same results, I can tell the air is cooler (coming out of the AC unit), but it is not as cold as I was expecting. Before I call Dometic to see what they say, or if they might warranty it, does anyone have any first hand experience? Are my expectations too high? It cools the bedroom a few degrees, but doesn't make it cold. Some of my research tells of a Dometic trouble shooting guide for the AC units, but my google-fu is failing me, and I can't find it. Thanks for the help! They are correct, your AC should freeze you out. I would give Dometic a call after checking the setting.

RE: 2nd AC unit worth it?

Yes, it is worth it, we also have two. Get the second AC (low profile) and you will be happier.

RE: Cre3000 to CRE4000

Had the SRE 4000 installed now for a few trips and love it over stock. SRE 4000 provides a smoother ride, nothing is out of the cabinets or broken. I would like to thank you guys for the help. Safe and happy travels this season.

RE: Keyless locks

Had this lock in our fifth wheel for over two years now and had no problems at all. This was an easy install. I installed our lock for convenience and to have a different locking system from other RV's

RE: Gas prices.

Can someone explain how a so called shortage drives up prices when the shortage isn't causing gas stations to run out of gas? Maybe they mean a shortage of profits, not a shortage of gasoline? :) You are so correct.

RE: Cre3000 to CRE4000

Sorry for the delay in responding. Completed the upgrade after re-measuring which came out to be 58 1/3 inches I had to reorder the correct one which was SR2-733. We just returned from a trip and the new SRE 4000 appeared to help with the road shock. We had no open cabinets but we did suffer a broken pendant light over kitchen island.

RE: Should We Get A New Hitch?!

Sorry reading this happened. Just curious, can you post a photo of your fifth wheel? I've had two fifth wheels now and have been towed them with no problems. My first hitch was a slider but I never had to use it. I started having some play in one of the rails so I purchased a new non-sliding hitch. I think the problem people are having is due to the cap on the fifth wheel. To be honest, if I had a problem like this I would have a slider. Took some time today and looked at your fifth wheel, and yes I would have a slider.

RE: Jayco quality?

Never owned a Jayco, sorry. If Jayco work for your family and you then that is what you buy. Over the years we've had two Northwood fifth wheels and will only have a Northwood due to not having to make repairs. While at RV parks I've had conversations with Jayco owners and they love them.

RE: Auto Leveling

I have been good at reading and following the instructions but our leveling system has only worked correctly one time. Most of the time it has an error "Out of Strock". I would love to use it but no joy. I'm happy your is working correctly Geez, if it's out of stroke, then put some blocks under the jacks that are limiting out! If you're already doing this, then put more blocks. If it's still showing an error when you're close to level, then you've got a system problem and need to address it. A trip to the dealer for a refresher lesson might not hurt, either, just to be sure. Lyle Thank you for the information, but the blocks did not work. Okay, happy travels.

RE: Sliding Hitch

I'm not going to tell you what to buy. I have a RAM Mega cab with a short bed and had a slider for 5 years now. Never had to engage the slider and I have gotten into some tight spots. I will say, I believe it depends on the design of the front cap. The corners of the caps on both of our fifth wheels were a cutback design on the corners (Not sure if that is the correct). Get the slider, everything RV cost so go with it. Over time, you are going to waste more money on things you wanted for the RV and never use them.

RE: Auto Leveling

"I have been good at reading and following the instructions but our leveling system has only worked correctly one time. Most of the time it has an error "Out of Strock". I would love to use it but no joy. I'm happy your is working correctly " G Hop, When you get the "out of stroke" message all you need to do is look at which ram(s) is/are extended all the way, bring up the rear jacks, place a block or two under that ram(s) and hit "auto level" again and let it do it's thing. I don't think there's anything wrong with your leveling system. We will on occasion get that message if we're on a very "un-level" site and I haven't placed any blocking under my jacks. Our level-up system works GREAT, I think yours will too. Thank you guys for the help. Heading out next week so I'll give it a try. Again, thank you. Dan

RE: Auto Leveling

I do not know where GHop or MerryKalia are camping at or if you are not using the auto level right but I have had auto level on my 5er's since 2012 and being a full timer for 8 years and I can tell ya it is one of the best things that have ever come out for 5th wheels Only sometimes times do I have to use a few orange blocks to compensate for a real unlevel site it is pretty much hit the auto level button and watch it do it's thing I LOVE IT! and would NEVER go back to the old school jacks with Pins and wood blocks Blah Blah Blah MerryKalia is right. We have the same problem and have only had them work correctly one time. I just go old school and don't use it at all. I'm thinking it was a waste of money. I hope you have better luck with yours. Agreed auto level is a fantastic feature. I have been good at reading and following the instructions but our leveling system has only worked correctly one time. Most of the time it has an error "Out of Strock". I would love to use it but no joy. I'm happy your is working correctly
