RE: next after Upper Stableloads? Jittery ride on rough pavement

Your truck has a 11,500 lb. GVW, I would remove the stableloads and see how it rode.

RE: Buying from a private party

Depending on the brand, but it’s 5 model years old and you could probably buy a new one with a warranty for close to their asking price. Yes, NADA is a good place to start.

RE: favorite tow vehicle for small trailer??

Bob, I would stay away from any vehicle with a CVT for towing. The Toyota 4 Runner is rear wheel drive with a 4 liter V6 engine, but the mileage is under 20 mpg. The Highlander has an 8 speed real automatic transmission, is front wheel drive and gets decent fuel mileage when not towing. Both Toyota’s can be had, with aggressive negotiation for your $35k price cap. I had a 2013 Honda Pilot, got terrible fuel mileage, the multi cylinder engine system was terrible. I couldn’t stand it and took a loss after only 5 months of ownership.

RE: Sidewall of truck height

Super, your truck is fine it’s the newer GM’s that have it.

RE: Sidewall of truck height

Bill, be aware that your truck bed may have the infamous GM crown. My 2015 has it and I just added an additional 20” long piece of rubber bed mat in the rear portion of bed to compensate for the crown.

RE: Manufacturing and Marketing Genius

CONTENTS MAY SETTLE DURING SHIPMENT (Definition) "We're too cheap to buy a vibration platform and secondary refilling machine" BIG CANDY BAR. Stiff cardboard backing is twice the size of the product AMAZONDOTCOM. Massive box for tiny contents. Waste of box size and shipper's carrying capacity. Porch Thieves: Leave a box of dog poop and dirt on your front porch. Use an absurdly oversized Amazon box. Gets rid of the box too Hahahaha, have to borrow some neighbours dog poop and set up the spy cam. Why would you even waste your time for such nonsense?:S

RE: Hauling a Honda 3000

Kayteg, How do you haul your gasoline? Putting it on the front cargo carrier appears to be the only option. I cringe a bit at that thought. Any body else? How do you haul a 5 gallon gas can if you aren't pulling a trailer? Zulu I mounted a RotoPax bracket on the rear bumper of my camper and carry 2 RotoPax gas cans. They are leakproof and locked onto the bracket.

RE: Over loaded pickup

My nephew, 27 yrs. old, decided to build a deck. Didn’t want to pay a delivery charge, so he go his BIL with his truck to go to the lumber yard to get 36 bags of concrete. The gentleman at the yard with his forklift ask if the truck could hold the load, BIL says “it’s got a V8”. Forklift operators says ok, you know the rest of the story. Depends on the truck. 36 bags of ready mix is less than 3000 pounds. Overloaded for a 150/1500 series truck but no problem for 250/2500 on up. My F250 would be a little over its GVWR with that load but slightly under RGAWR. It was a F150.

RE: Best portable generators advise I have seen for years

With the lack of common sense these days with both the consumer and the sales people the death rate doesn’t surprise me.

RE: Carrying your camping chairs.

I guess if you don't mind your chairs getting covered in road grime or dust or whatever, they'd be ok. It's quite easy for us to just put the chairs inside the TC and pull them out first thing. Or put them in the back seat of the double cab. Geewhiz, the last thing I want are chairs rattling on the back seat. I already use that area for my archery target, luggage and some other bulky items. Putting them in the camper is also not acceptable. Next trip I will be driving several days and 2500 miles to my first destination. I want to be able to pull over, use the rest room, cook meals and even take a mid day nap. At night I do not want to put the chairs in a Walmart, truck stop or rest area parking lot. When I do reach my destination, I will be hiking and sight seeing most of the day and I will probably only use a chair maybe once a week. Thanks, but chairs belong outside and the brackets make that easy. I carry mine in the back seat of my extended cab, along with my step ladder and no rattling. I run the outer seat/shoulder belt right across them and click them in. Last thing I would want is to be in a rollover and get killed by a flying chair or ladder.:B

RE: What's the longest/heaviest you would tow with a 1/2 ton?

A Lance model 2375 travel trailer is 25’ and 5000 lbs. looks like it fits your requirements. Man, that is one I've been eyeing. It's in the same money category as Outdoors RV and Northwoods Manufacturing. I really like the Artic Fox 25Y (6640 UVW) and Outdoors RV Timber Ridge 24RLS (6650 UVW). These seem to be the 3 trailers that are significantly higher quality than the more recognized names at about $10,000-15000 more. Unfortunately, none of them are anywhere NEAR North Carolina, so it would require a vacation just to go buy one. That might happen depending on what loan/rate I can secure. I don't feel like buying another "inexpensive" one to deal with all the same stupid things breaking/leaking. At least these are still quite a bit less than an Airstream! Those are both nice TT’s but they are both 10k GVW trailers, too much for a 1/2 ton truck to comfortably handle. The Lance is a 7k GVW trailer, much more comfortable for your F150. Good luck.

RE: 140 PSI Water Pressure

Go to rvwaterfilterstore.com and purchase a Watts made in the USA, lead free with stainless parts water pressure regulator, set it to 40 PSI and protect your RV and still have great flow.

RE: No Overnight Parking in one Rapid City, SD, Walmart

Our WM also posted new parking lot signs about overnight parking, restricting them now. It's because the parking lot was becoming a 'homeless row' of rigs and cars where folks are obviously living out of and it was a mess... They now park on the out skirts of the property where there are no signs posted yet... But, it'll only be a matter of time. Sad for sure, as no one should have to live that way, but then they do abuse it by trashing the hell out of where they park so what is a property owner to do? Mitch X2

RE: Leaving potable antifreeze in the system

Thanks for all the input. Now, I'm concerned about the fresh water tank growing mold. I think a half cup of bleach might be a good idea. Thoughts on that? If that’s the case, load the camper, 1/2 cup of bleach to 15 gallons of water, dewinterize with bleach water, take the camper for a ride around the block to coat the tank, let it sit for a couple of hours, drain and winterize with the pink stuff. Two gallons of pink only cost $6.00.

RE: New and confused

The van we are recommending is a proven van that has been used for years in commercial applications, including towing duties and were never front wheel drive. Even some of the 3/4ton vans are front wheel drive. Just pointing out that 3/4 ton by itself doesn't mean it's a good option. Can you let us know what the manufacturer/model 3/4 ton van you are referring to, so the OP stays away from them?
