RE: Trip Planner

My MS S&T has an "optimize" feature for stops. So I just did a Google search for "trip planner with optimize stops" and found this: OptimoRoute Hope this helps you!

RE: Trip Planner

I know that you can load destinations in Google Maps. You can arrange them in the correct order then load the route. I still use my MS Streets and Trips 2011 version for most of my trip planning. That's how tech challenged I am!

RE: Road closure (detour) questions

We just traveled on Highway 24 in Indiana and Illinois. Had to take the detour around Goodland. Was kind of a pain but smooth sailing. About 20 miles our of our way.

RE: I-40 West of Memphis

Just traveled that route twice in the past two weeks. Many, many trucks but after traveling in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois we felt the roads in Arkansas were great! I-40 between Memphis and Little Rock was not bad at all IMHO

Highway 24 near Goodland, Indiana...detour question

Our favorite way to get avoid Chicago on the way to Michigan is to exit in Gilman, IL and travel east on Highway 24. Google Maps shows me that there is bridge work and the highway will be closed just past Goodland until the end of August. Has anyone traveled on Highway 24 recently or know if the detour is pretty far out of the way? I can't tell if we could just detour a couple of blocks away or not. We will be trying to get to US 31. Have another route planned out (Route B!) but sure would like to use Highway 24 instead.

RE: Just bought a 1999 230xlw Xplorer

Congratulations! We owned a 2000 Xplorer for 14 years. We retired in 2016 and went to a Class C. Still miss my Xplorer. It was also my daily driver! We felt too claustrophobic using the bathroom doors. We removed them and put up a shower curtain rod and a shower curtain. It worked very well for us. Those doors were heavy and so our load was lighter. Have fun with your van!

RE: Is this forum dead, wow

There are many RV groups on Facebook. I think that is why the forums have less traffic. But this is still my "go to" RV forum! I would be lost without it!

RE: Elkhart to Out West AFTER ACTION REPORT

We always do everything we can to avoid driving near Chicago. Many members on this forum like Highway 36 which is an east to west highway that runs through several states. I have only traveled that highway near Hamilton, MO. Since you like to travel the back roads I would swing down US 31 south in Indiana and get to Highway 36. Highway 24 also runs east to west but in looking at Google Maps it seems like it is also part of the Interstate system in certain areas. Happy and safe travels

RE: Route through Chicago

If you are not pressed for time here is a route that you might consider: Swing west and take highway 17 to Lowell, Indiana. Then travel west to Kankakee and further west on 17 to 47. Then up to Interstate 80 to Interstate 39. You might have to look at a map to further understand this route. We have taken 17 from Kankakee to Interstate 65 to avoid Chicago on our way to western Michigan many times.

RE: Cammpground Rant

Easter weekend is a three day weekend for most. The weather is warmer and is frequently the first camping weekend of the year for many folks. When we lived in Michigan Spring Break was always around Easter time. Not sure when it is now. Easter is late this year. Please look at State Park and COE parks to see if any have openings. By the way, our wildflowers are totally awesome this year!

I-40 Little Rock to Memphis current conditions?

Will be traveling from NE Texas to Michigan in July. Have not used I-40 for several years due to the rough road. I know that that there has been road repair on I-40 for many years. Has anyone traveled this way recently and could you please report on how the road is? Thanks in advance

RE: SR 290 to SR 71 through Austin?

In my opinion the 130 toll road in Austin is the best way to go through. But are you coming in from the east or west? And if time is not a concern there are other ways to travel around Austin. Please let us know.

RE: Recreation.gov

I am also thinking that you cannot book sites more than 6 months in advance. Even though August 9 is your first date, August 14 is more than 6 months in advance.

RE: Stand-alone GPS or smartphone?

We use our Garmin Nuvi and I wouldn't leave home without it! One feature that I enjoy is that it tells me approximately what time we will arrive. Also tells me that speed that we are traveling which seems to be more accurate than our dash speedometer. Also tells the altitude. It's those little things in life that keep me smiling!

RE: Driving your RV alone

Really? I drive our Class C with NO problems. I can back it into a spot. Drove our 21 foot Class B as a daily driver for 14 years all around Austin, TX. Piece of cake!

RE: How I camp when there's snow outside

Thanks for sharing this. There are so many items in that puzzle that we seem to own or have owned in the past. Looks like fun and I added it to my Amazon "Wish List!"
