RE: Elkhart to Out West

We always do everything we can to avoid driving near Chicago. Many members on this forum like Highway 36 which is an east to west highway that runs through several states. I have only traveled that highway near Hamilton, MO. Since you like to travel the back roads I would swing down US 31 south in Indiana and get to Highway 36. Highway 24 also runs east to west but in looking at Google Maps it seems like it is also part of the Interstate system in certain areas. Happy and safe travels

RE: Route through Chicago

If you are not pressed for time here is a route that you might consider: Swing west and take highway 17 to Lowell, Indiana. Then travel west to Kankakee and further west on 17 to 47. Then up to Interstate 80 to Interstate 39. You might have to look at a map to further understand this route. We have taken 17 from Kankakee to Interstate 65 to avoid Chicago on our way to western Michigan many times.

RE: Cammpground Rant

Easter weekend is a three day weekend for most. The weather is warmer and is frequently the first camping weekend of the year for many folks. When we lived in Michigan Spring Break was always around Easter time. Not sure when it is now. Easter is late this year. Please look at State Park and COE parks to see if any have openings. By the way, our wildflowers are totally awesome this year!

I-40 Little Rock to Memphis current conditions?

Will be traveling from NE Texas to Michigan in July. Have not used I-40 for several years due to the rough road. I know that that there has been road repair on I-40 for many years. Has anyone traveled this way recently and could you please report on how the road is? Thanks in advance

RE: SR 290 to SR 71 through Austin?

In my opinion the 130 toll road in Austin is the best way to go through. But are you coming in from the east or west? And if time is not a concern there are other ways to travel around Austin. Please let us know.

RE: Recreation.gov

I am also thinking that you cannot book sites more than 6 months in advance. Even though August 9 is your first date, August 14 is more than 6 months in advance.

RE: Stand-alone GPS or smartphone?

We use our Garmin Nuvi and I wouldn't leave home without it! One feature that I enjoy is that it tells me approximately what time we will arrive. Also tells me that speed that we are traveling which seems to be more accurate than our dash speedometer. Also tells the altitude. It's those little things in life that keep me smiling!

RE: Driving your RV alone

Really? I drive our Class C with NO problems. I can back it into a spot. Drove our 21 foot Class B as a daily driver for 14 years all around Austin, TX. Piece of cake!

RE: How I camp when there's snow outside

Thanks for sharing this. There are so many items in that puzzle that we seem to own or have owned in the past. Looks like fun and I added it to my Amazon "Wish List!"

Hattiesburg to Mobile in early November

Traveling on Highway 84 from Texas to Mississippi then on to Pensacola/Navarre area. Overnighting at Meagher State Park on Mobile Bay. Planned on taking Highway 98 from Hattiesburg to Mobile. My neighbor suggests taking Highway 63 down to IH 10 instead because of construction in Mobile. Any comments or other suggestions are welcome. Class C without a toad Thanks!

RE: Protecting your RV

We have been RV-ing and camping since 1986 and the only thing we ever had taken was some firewood by some late night fun loving college kids!

Where do you place your inside level?

When you are setting up at your campsite or RV site where do you place your level? We have a little round level. We usually set it on one of the refrigerator shelves. Sometimes on the counter. Occasionally the readings are different. I have read where some people have a level outside, some use a plumbers level, some the app on the iPhone. Just wondering where you all place your level?

RE: 2013 Winne Vista 26he too small ? Or not

Our counter extension came with the Sunseeker. We previously owned an Xplorer Class B van (loved that thing, drove it for 14 years but needed more room) and it had one, too.

RE: 2013 Winne Vista 26he too small ? Or not

We have a slide in our 25.6 foot Sunseeker. We have a counter extension that flips up and is to the left of the sink. We also use the stovetop for additional workspace. We eat simple meals while we travel. We also do quite a bit of cooking outside.
