RE: Best Route from Fresno to Camp Pendleton

The more scenic route, but also much slower, is to head toward Santa Maria, then take the 101 and PCH.

A visit from Huge

Two brothers in a small town had flower shops at locations far apart in the town. They competed against each other, always trying to one-up the other, in a friendly manner. But, the monks in the local monastery decided they needed additional income to survive. They had plenty of land, so they planned to raise flowers, which would sell for much less than the brothers would. The brothers went to the local sheriff, but he couldn't help. the also tried the Mayor and the City Council, to no avail. In desperation, they sought the help of the Local Don, who sent a large individual named Hugh, nickname: Huge. This worthy visited the monks and said it would be a shame if their buildings burned down. The monks abandoned their plan. The Storal of the Mory is: Hugh, and only Hugh, can prevent Florist Friars.

RE: Help finding fresh date Tires

I use Amerca's Tire. I insisted on fresh tires for my rig and they got them. Don't know if they are in your area. Also lately Consumer Reports gave them a good score.

Direct TV satellite

Newspaper this morning reported the Direct TV satellite may be failing. Possible move to "GRAVEYARD" location. However, they say they won't dump fuel. Problems with batteries. DISH uses the same satellite, so this might be problems all over the country if you depend upon this for your TV away from home.

My braided ones (one one side) were a continuous problem for a couple of years. I repeced them with the rubberized type and so far working well.

RE: Generator RF Noise

A Faraday shield could help, but a good ground connection woouldn't hurt, either.

RE: Level best jacks

It appears that the load to the jacks is insufficient to be powered by the alternator at idle. You are probably right that the engine must be running, and maybe more than idle in order to take the shock of sudden load. It might also be a problem with the battery in that the battery should have been able to operate the jacks even without the engine/alternator. Even after that, if the jacks are binding and presenting a much larger load than normal, then the current required is much too much. Any chance that the jacks have been bent by contacting the ground? First I would start the engine, then disconnect the battery. If the engine dies, then your alternator has failed. Assuming you have a standard lead-acid battery and you can check the electrolyte, replenish with DISTILLED WATER only. I find I have to check mine quite regularly and top them off. If your problem has been there for a while, and especially if the electrolyte is low, your battery may be damaged and in need of replacement. How many batteries do you have? Are your jacks powered by the chassis battery or the house battery?

RE: Refrigerator question for you class A campers

OUr View is our first RV but we are toying with the idea of a smallish Class A. I am a bit concerned aout the handling and towing power. Our View has been upgraded to a 7 1/2 cuibic foot unit running auto with shore power and propane. It would be nice to have a 3-way reefer.

RE: Awning Cost

We used Shade Pro to upgrade our worn manual awning to one with power actuation and aluminum weather shield, which was done in our driveway at a reasonable cost. If they are in your area you should check them out.

RE: Motorhomes on Mercedes Chassis

Our first RV, the Winnie View. Very reliable, gets 15 MPG @65 MPH, 15mpg @ 55 mph towing a car. Plenty of torque to pull the car up a hill. Sleeps 6, but a little more comfortable if 2 are children. Fridge runs on propane or shore powwer and can be set to change automatically. The TV as supplied is rather small, I changed ours out for a 28" Samsumg. There are about 3 different floor plans. First pick the floor plan you want to live with. M-B has a full page listing of specifications for all the fluids. In particular pay attention to the engine oil. I get mine from Amazon along with the filter, for less money than I can get it retail, and free shipping.

RE: Yellowstone Questions

we stayed an henry's lake near West Yellowston and then moved to the Teton Lodge campground. We were there for a week. Senior pass lane is very short and quick. Pain in advance for both. Henry's lake charged me extra for the toad, even though I declared it when I bought the tickets.

RE: Upgrade V-10 to Turbo?

Ther is a 30 ft v-8 powered RV with Banks power in this neihborhood. About a 1991 Southwind. Chrome insignia on LF fender. Banks has a kit for the V-10 already. STBRetired, thanx. Just the answer I needed.

RE: Upgrade V-10 to Turbo?

I was considering the Banks system. I see the 5 star tuner is illegal in the People's Republic of California. Just as a matter of discussion, if the 5 star tuner is installed, could it be removed for the smog testing and would it not permanently cause a smog test failure or would it revert to factory tune?

RE: Solar panels. Looking to buy several.

I use a rule of thumb that panels should cost no more than $1.00 PER WATT. HF panels don't qualify INHO.

RE: Bigger stabilizer bar improvement in handling?

Thank you, but actually we are toying with the idea of trading up to a Class A so we have questions. Handling of our class C is quite good, but we hear that Class A, not so good.
