RE: Carhauler to RV

Good advice, considering most of what you have suggested. We are going with the 7 wide, I just do not want the 8 foot because it is just too wide for me on the road even if has more room, the length at least the 16 and maybe the 18 if they make it in 7 wide and last the height I see it is usually 7 foot with a 6" addition I would really like the extra height and would add another 12"s and have an 8' interior height should make it really feel larger then it is and of couse would make it easier to hang the chandelier ha ha
For power I am researching those solar generators and they are amazing easier then large and expensive battery banks.
We will be mostly boondocking....out west.
Thanks again for the input it is appreciated Dave

RE: Carhauler to RV

I did not realize that so many people misunderstood the empty weight verses gross weight.
WELL SOON i WILL MAKE A CHOICE AFTER THIS MEDICAL PROBLEM i HAVE IS RECTIFIED.
But you have to admit custom stuff they way you want it has a lot satisfaction and I am in no rush, I could probably finish a custom before I could get a TT I liked delivered..... now the problem will be if I can get the parts I need.... But remember when we used to tent... anything will be a step up!
Keep up with anything you can add or suggest. Dave Holbrook NY
PS if you want to pitchin down the road.... pass by I never pass up help

RE: Carhauler to RV

Weight would be about the same for a 16 footer Vee nose just gives you some free space because the box is the 7x16 about 28 inches is free. In NY I got a price for under 10K with 12 inch centers, . and that is in NY, I think I could do better in the south or west, still investigating. I really think I could set this up for not more then 10K and have exactly what I would like it to be inside. That is a lot cheaper then the cheap small trailers and as I said I am not new to trailering and really do not need all the fancy features that the newbies need!! I can change a plug for an inverter and can use a window AC heating can be a diesel heater or a small wave heater, it is only a 16 foot box. A murphy bed frees up room during the day. I could do some good things on the walls and maybe a tin ceiling? There are some beautiful TT out there like the Lance 1475 but 40K to start is a bit much. I really like that "steampunk look" and at my age I really want to do something different. As far as where I would like to travel I never liked an RV park, kids, dogs, rules and $$$, my fun is at the BLM out west even Walmart and Crackerbarrel as we move on.

RE: Carhauler to RV

Guys I do not know how we got to toy haulers and horse trailers but I am talking about an enclosed cargo trailer that every contractor uses. I have had 3 trailers 26, 25, and 16 years ago and know what they are. Most recently I had a truck camper with a slide but because of health reasons we sold it (big mistake they are a fortune now) I still have my Ram dually diesel 4x4 and it runs great 1999. We usually go out to Quartzite for Jan and Feb and then travel from NY.
a Vee nose 7x16 or 18 with barn doors with an additional 1 foot high is what I am considering, raising the height can be done by flipping the axal and then I could build the floor up in the front and would not have to worry about freezing of tanks. LP for maybe a wave heater and a cook top also a tankless water heater for shower. Better half wants a real toilet. fridge could be a small compressor type with less draw amp,
Am considering solar with acid batteries at least 2 and I do have a 2500 watt Champion that can run on gas or LP. I have built a room on my house so this is not a completely out of the question dream. Thanks

RE: Carhauler to RV

I guess you fellows have seen them around. I was referring to the enclosed cargo trailers that the lawn guys have to pull behind my truck.
I have owned 3 travel trailer 25, 26 and 16 plus I just sold my Truck camper. We have decided to get a new small travel trailer about 16 to 18 foot class; they are asking astronomical prices and want to go another way for price and get exactly what I want. I can do some of the work but may need some help some portions I made need help.
Looking at youtube there is alot of good info on what is needed and how to do it. I am looking at a 7 x 16 vee nose cargo trailer with an 8 foot interior height. 36 inch RV door and either a ramp or barn door rear. The trailer companies will do many items such as insulation, vents, windows I am still research how for they will go! I think I can get a pretty substantial rig for maybe half the price of the usual RV,

Looking at a Lance 1475 sold the TC

Anyone comment on a Lance 1475, trying to see one; maybe there will be a unit at Hershey RV show? Sold the TC last year and looking to get back to boondocking out west in the winter... I don't know why but they only come with a 20# LP tank but you can get a high lift frame ... seems odd to me.
Still have the 3500 RAM diesel and will load it with goodies, maybe a motorcycle.
Like the idea of the lounge chairs instead of the dinette... more comfort less steps up and into the trailer. Any imput would be appreciated, they are pricey!

RE: The Emotions in a TC

Well guys this thread strikes very close to home. A lot of medical problems for the last 2 years and we sold the Harley and the AF 1150, 2005. We used it and beat it to death on roads where billy goats would not go, took a toll on the body but the cummins diesel on my 99 Ram 4x4 will run for another few years. If my heart and spine ever clear up which is happening slowly, very slowly; we will be looking at a small TT with the idea that when the truck goes I could replace it with a mid size SUV.
Looking at a Lance 1475 TT with lounge chairs instead of the dinette and set up for boondocking with more solar, genset, softstart AC. The real problem is there no stock at the dealers to see any models... The big Hershey Pa RV show is opening in Sept. and we hope to see something there.
I am even thinking of a Ural motorcycle with a side car (Harley 2 wheels a little too heavy at this time for me) THE URAL is 2 wheel drive w/ reverse, I could make a deck on the Ram and take it to the desert....now the question is; will my wife get in it !!! Time will tell. Hi Sleepy, Kerry and Photomike... see you down the road.
