RE: RV Roof Damage (water leak???)

I doubt that your insurance will cover this as they would want to what occurance took place. You can't tell them what happened, when, and where.

RE: Idaho Campgrounds

I agree with most of the above advice. Too hot in August, Sept. better. Torrey's is a nice quiet spot and convenient to the Sawtooth area and Challis area. The area around Salmon and N. Fork is nice to explore and fish. Depending on what you enjoy, Idaho has it all, just in different areas. With your 4-5 weeks you could check out the Cascade/McCall area, then roam on up to CDL area. It's all beautiful.

RE: Custer State Park Sylvan lake 32’ tt

If the park told you 25 TT max then accept that and book in another CG in the park. Most of the others will be able to handle that size.

RE: US 12 Lolo MT to Kooskia Id

It is a good highway with good scenery. When you get into Idaho, it follows the river with many campgrounds. Don't know what months you are planning on but if spring or autumn you could have snow.

RE: Insurance claim, possible surge

What does your policy say about "sudden power surges?" I'll bet you anything it isn't covered, since you cannot tell them when, where, what. They'll call it 'wear and tear'.

RE: Ranger Lakes CG Colorado

Mid September will be great weather but the lakes will be 'fished out'. The autumn colors and the bugling elk will make up for the lack of fish.

RE: Broke down on the road, what's your insurance experience?

Woke up on a Sunday morning near Rawlins, Wyo. with a flat tire on my pickup. Called Coachnet, nice lady took info, called me back in 10 minutes and told me who was coming to fix me up. He didn't even have me unhitch the TT and asked if I wanted the spare put on or if I wanted him to FIX the flat. He fixed it and he was gone in under an hour. Coachnet called the right guy!

RE: Broke down on the road, what's your insurance experience?

Back in the "old days" before cell phones, you simply raised your hood so others would know you needed help and good samaritans or a police officer would stop and help. Then they would either radio for help or drive to a phone and call for help. That 'system' actually worked but I wouldn't count on the samaritans today, since society is not as civil now. As you are then a sitting target on the side of the road, you must also be prepared to protect yourself from the less civil element that shares our roads.

RE: Taos or Santa Fe, New Mexico

Taos has better scenery and is closer to Red River and other mountain areas for fishing, hiking, etc. Taos is smaller, quieter, and just as crowded as Santa Fe. Taos weather in May could be 85 and sunny or 35 and snowy. Santa Fe would be best for shopping, dining, and history. And crowds. Should be warm days and cool nights in May.

RE: winter camping advice

There is a reason that RV parks and CGs close in the winter. The same reason is why RV owners winterize their rigs. Be realistic and rent an apartment.

RE: Nissan for a tow vehicle

I am just curious. You say that you have read about Nissan having transmission, drivetrain, and other issues....so why are you looking at a Nissan, especially a used one out of warranty.

RE: Cheap sunbird locations? Escape Florida summer

Forget humid areas like Georgia and N. Carolina. For truly comfortable days with cool nights, head to the mountains of New Mexico or southern Colorado.

RE: Cheap sunbird locations? Escape Florida summer

If you truly want to be cooler in the summer, then head for the mountains of New Mexico or southern Colorado. 7000' or higher will keep you very comfortable with balmy days and cool nights. Forget humid areas like Georgia and N.Carolina.

RE: Best generator

We had a Yamaha 2000 for 8-9 years and never had a nickels worth of trouble with it. Sold it to a friend and bought a new Honda 2000 (in the box). It was in the shop after our first use as the tech said it was clogged from stale gas! He said the factory puts some gas in, runs it a bit, and packs and ships them. Some sit for months before being sold. Cost me $70 or so for service as Honda would not honor the warranty. Wish I had kept my Yamaha.

RE: Immigration crack down

You are "getting a lot of reports" from whom? Stopped on the street where? Being held by whom? Please be specific.

RE: Glacier National Park and Mount Rushmore campgrounds

Rafter J Bar outside of Hill City would be the best for a class A as they have areas with large sites. It is also more of a 'Nat'l Forest' feel to it. Custer S.P. is an excellent choice but I don't think a class A would have as many choices. At Glacier, there are many private RV parks that will work for you.

I'd genuinely appreciate hearing from the OP regarding his concerns, without the snide remarks from others.

RE: First RV Grand Design vs Keystone cougar

Out of 150 brands of RVs, Keystone Cougar would be 149th because of the horrible lack of quality control.

RE: Trip to Colorado from Minnesota

I think you are making a mistake by "not getting in too deep" in the mountains. That is what makes Colorado!! If you just stay in the cities up and down the front range, you may as well stay in Minneapolis or Omaha. Stay on I-70 and drive at least to Dillon and Frisco area. The more you see, the more you will want to explore. If you went to the Southern part of Colorado, the scenery is just as great plus the weather would probably be a bit better. The snow usually begins in the North and then moves South. Taking the dogs and renting an RV are two different subjects....both wrong at that time of year.
