RE: How long can you go on a 50 amp extension cord?

If the silver plug can handle 15-20 amps I’m pretty sure 3 of the larger ones can handle the load the OP will put on them.

RE: 1994 holiday rambler 38 cummins no fuel

I’m pretty sure a 94 Cummins does not have an electric lift pump...fill the fuel filters with fuel when changing to decrease the amount of air in the system. A common problem is the 12V solenoid that pulls the lever turning on the fuel gets weak... you can help it by pulling on the lever. I would loosen the fuel lines at the injectors (3/4 wrench) and then over heat your starter cranking on it OR put a gas soaked rag over the air intake to get the engine to run on the gas. Takes awhile cranking to get the gas from the intake to the engine. Once you get fuel coming out of the loosen lines, tighten and start it normally.

RE: How long can you go on a 50 amp extension cord?

I’m currently running one AC on a 100’ long #10 cord plugged into a 15A outlet. I routinely run 2 15K ACs on a 30A outlet...what the OP is wanting to do using a 50A cord. Each AC (15A) SHOULD be on its own leg of the 240V/50A ...even if both AC are on the same leg (easy enough to correct) it’s not going to be a problem. Another thing that only in the RV world do we worry about ...16A on a 50A wire.

RE: Leece Deville alternator

With only one post I can’t tell your abilities on testing??? Are you saying when you turn the key on there isn’t 12V at the alternator or the alternator does not work???

RE: Electronic Driving Systems

My 08 HR Navigator has the optional Vorad radar cruise and blind spot sensors. Even when not using cruise it will alert you to a big difference in speed. Probably only once in 20K miles has it been ahead of me on the need to get on the brakes. ..turning PU with no rear lights. When using the cruise you need to monitor your desired speed as it will have you going need to pass the slower vehicle. Even on the shortest distance it keeps me further back than my normal distance...probably a good thing. I assume all DPs have ATC...traction control. Both Monaco and Country Coach built all steel shells. Monaco on the Dynasty, Exe, and Sig. HR on the Septer and Navigator. Without going to a converted bus $$$$, the big Monaco’s are one of the safer rigs.

RE: Portable Wind Turbine as a power supplement?

While moving most high powered items are not used so guess you’re trying to charge your batteries. Spend the $$ on adding a second alternator to the engine or easiest way, diesel for your generator.

RE: PLAN B on RV "carport"

Cheap 8” concrete blocks (filled with gravel) with 4” solid cap block for part way and then 2 caps (could be just a 8”) and then just a cap. 4-6” of crusher run on clay is plenty... could go a little thicker where the C’s tires will sit..

What % of the time will you pull...5%??? Get the 3.31 and pull in 8th if necessary. The days of a 3 speed and 4.11 are long gone.

RE: Carrying a Motorcycle with my 2000 Shasta Sprite?

You need to weigh your rig first... never mind I see it’s a E350. 400 lb bike plus 100 lb rack is going to put 1000 lbs on your rear axle (500 off front)..ain’t going to work. Maybe a 200 lb bike but now you need to weigh.

RE: Jumper Cables A Jumble Of Compromises

Split the cable/wires into two leads of 4” each and fasten to each side of the clamp...soldier if possibly.

Too bad you didn’t join sooner... cut your loses now as throwing more money into a money pit only drains your wallet.

RE: Turning pivot points for 40’ RV class A

I recently taught our daughter how to drive their 42’ DP in two, 2 hour sessions. Started in a large empty parking lot next to a straight line. Put piece of black tape on bottom of the windshield for the edge of the road...helps in construction zones. Adjusted R convex mirror down so you can see the white edge strip and any cars in the blind spot. Sitting in front of the steer tires requires waiting longer to start your turns, even hanging the front out over the grass. Spent most of the first lesson maneuvering around small cones I put out duplicating various types of turns. Final test was 10 miles on a narrow, curvy undulating road which was as bad as anything you’ll find...she did great. 4 days later we left for a month out West in 2 DPs pulling toads...did the 1500 miles to CO in 2 days. When asked why the 1500 miles in 2 days? She said she was afraid I’d go off and leave her. She did the 2200 miles home on her own. I dinged a bay door, she did not.

RE: Front Door swing arm repacement

This may be of some help if it’s the same as what Monaco used. Tightening the center pivot.

RE: Norcold 1210 freezer cold refrigerator warm

A platform almost as high as the bottom of the refrigerator makes it easy to slide it out...3 screws top/bottom hold it in and maybe 1 at the back into the floor. Start by prying the metal bottom (at the back) away from the wall. Once out a couple of inches you can finish from inside.

RE: Boat versus RV Generator

7800 and smaller Onan’s are DC generators into an inverter that only puts out 120V. 10K and larger are AC generators that put out 240V. They (your boat 11K) maintains 60 cycles by staying at the same rpm unlike the inverter in the smaller generators that maintains the 60 cycles and rpms vary as the load varies.

RE: Utah, Highway 12 Advice

X3 and did it last summer in our 45’ towing. The 12% is only 3-400’ long at the Hog Back in a tight turn. Yes I’d do it again in a big rig...breathtaking. If you do not want to use 12, and instead of 89, 22 north at the entrance to Bryce is a good road and much shorter than using 89, but longer than 12.

RE: gas millage

How slow are you willing to travel? MPG without your speed doesn’t mean much. Several years ago I did a 100 mile test on a rural WY road at 45... got 10 mpg instead of my normal 7 (at 65) in my 04 DP. Last week on my way home in Nebraska (very flat road) my “new” rig with Silverleaf tells me the current HP. At 65 it was 220 +-5 hp. At 60 it was 200 +-5 hp, and 55 it was 170 +-5 hp. A good tailwind can help by +1 mpg and -1 if it’s a headwind.

RE: Best Manufacturer And How Long Do We Go

This is the floor plan of our 45’ 08 Navigator except it has a computer desk behind the driver’s seat. A couple key features: with a second sink and wardrobe in the BR, it’s more open than most. Both the shower and bathroom are larger than normal. There is not a window over the head of the bed...warmer in winter and less noise. The ceiling fan makes up for no window. The kitchen has the most counter space of any RV I’ve ever owned. Take a look at this 09 Monaco Executive...price is right.
