RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

Mike,
your awning looks good and is as good as those $$$$ ones, I have one that I use gutter mounts and adjustable poles.
May be taking a one-night trip next week to see a longtime friend and
start going camping mid Sept. on, hope that you get some fall camping in.

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

Mike,
that looks like your coffee setup would make a good cup of coffee, we don't drink
that much coffee, about 16 oz in the morning each for the day.
We don't do campfires due to my wife having an eye condition, the smoke makes it
worse. We won't go camping until mid-Sept., when it cools down and school is back in.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

OP here,
new pictures of my cargo carrier and homemade swingout bracket setup.
I like the way your tray folds out of the way so you can open your rear doors. My tray doesn't fold out of the way so I went with a low shallow box that was low enough so I could open my doors over the top of it. Your methods allows for larger boxes so you can carry more stuff than I can. Nice going!
I saw that your box was flat so you could open your doors, the way I
have it I can keep things outside that I don't want inside.

I noticed the other day that Walmart has a collapsible version of corn hole similar to the one I purchased on Amazon. They also have one with LED lights so you can play it in the dark.
Thanks, I will check Walmart when I go next time or check online.
When is you Corvett rally? sounds like fun.

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

Mike,
don't have to keep my van heated as it normally gets down to the 30s
or one time in 1990 it got down to -6, in a normal year we run in the 30s and 40s. Like you we get in the 50 and 60s and then we go camping
if we can.
The summers here in western Oregon gets to many people camping (lots
of tourist) and you need reservations to get in most campgrounds, unless you boondock on USFS and BLM land. In southwest Oregon the summer temperatures are too hot July and Aug. 90 + even at 6,000 ft,
(last year we got to 115) plus the mosquitos are bad until mid Sept.
The Corvette Rally sounds like a lot of fun and a nice trip too, you
will have such a fun summer that you won't know where it went.
Iam already setting up trips for fall season in to the hi country of the Cascades.

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

HI Mike,
nice to see you posting, and that cornhole game looks like the way to go when you need to keep it small. My wife has been wanting one so we will take a look at it.
I added a cargo carrier, and I made a swing out bracket so I can get into the back doors without unloading it, will post pictures soon.
Do you have any camping plans for the summer? we won't go camping until
mid Sept. and then we can go anytime in the Fall into late Spring.

Any Van people out camping

Checking in to see if anyone has been out camping in their vans.
We just got back from a few days of camping at Union Creek, Oregon, it is near Crater lake NP. this a USFS campground Farewell Bend with water and flush toilets and the weather was great.
We did a few walks to see the Rogue Gorge and check out another near by CG. ( we have been going to this area since 1965 and we love it their, only 90 minutes from home )
This is our third trip this year and the first with the new high top and it great to have it.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

Got out to the hot springs w the wife in our recently acquired van. It was very pleasant near 70F, few campers, and no issues. Pretty good for a late March trip in Central Idaho.
cptqueeg, what van did you get? how about some pictures.
70f in Idaho is great time to be camping, been to Idaho several time and always love it.
It's a winnie revel, based on a swb sprinter. The previous owner made some real nice upgrades, including doubling the lithium battery banks.
The funny thing since that trip in March we've had below normal temps and more snow than Jan, Feb and March combined. Woke up to a fresh inch this morning!
Pictures are a challenge on this board, but hope to figure it out someday.I googled your van and it looks great and is it 4 wheel drive ? that would be a plus for Idaho.
For pictures I go to Click
and select and that will let you get the pictures from your computer,
have your pictures sized to 640x 480 in JPG file before you do this.
Looking forward to seeing your van pictures.

RE: Where is EVERYONE??

I like your high top. I,originally, kept with the low top because that is the only kind that would fit in my heated garage. But now that we have moved to the big city and I have found a heated storage garage for my camper van and Corvette, I finally have the overhead space to store it. I may have to look into converting mine to a high top too. It would be really nice to be able to stand up in it. Not sure how my roof rack, water storage tube, and NAPA awning would fit on a high top though. Keep posting pictures because I love to see what others have done, especially to GM vans.
Had to add a high top because of my bad back and it make a difference even for the short standing area.
The high top is a molded fiberglass ( like a fiberglass boat ) I have a Casita trailer and it's molded fiberglass and it has a awing on it with no problems at all. I don't know how it will handle your roof rack and water storage tube, you would have to check with the manufacture for that.
I will post pictures when I finish the build and that might be sometime in the summer as I have other things to get done first, but will still beable to go camping .
Good to see you posting . Jay

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

HI Mike,
good to see you posting again and I know that you have moved and that is a lot of work. We have lived in this house for almost 42 years and I
have started to get rid of things too.
It was nice to take your wife out for Mother's Day camping.
I got a high top put on my van and just getting the rebuild about done,
love that we can stand up in it and the extra storage that we got with it.
Go over and check out my postings from yesterday to see the pictures
of the new top and rebuild.
Hope that you get to do some more camping this spring. Jay
