Out with the old in with the new

With the covid-19 we only did two camping trips and a few day trips last year ( 2020 ), we went camping New Years Eve ( 20 20 ) and New Years Day( 2021 ) ! So Out with the old in with the new! We hope to do a lot more camping this year, we have a few winter places to go too. Do any of you B or Camper van people have any winter or springs camping plans ? Here are a few pictures of the State Park campground with elect and water and only 40 miles from home . https://i.imgur.com/TQC5mhxl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/rtkrwwMl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yvUT3BOl.jpg Have Good New Year with lots of camping, Jay

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

In the 60's I converted a cargo van for camping that served my three kids, wife and I well. Then moved up to a 5'er and subsequently to other RVs. I recently sold my class c that I towed my boat and currently have a TT for the wife and I. Problem now is when towing the boat with my Yukon, I don't have sleeping accommodations. I'm thinking of buying a cargo van and converting it with a bed, carpet, wall insulation and packing cooking gears for those multi-days of solo fishing trips. Seon, I have a 2017 GMC cargo that I converted to a camper, I tow my Casita trailer with it for 3 plus days trips and use the van for me when the wife doesn't want to go. Check out my postings here on the RV Net. https://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/30038230.cfm or click here If you get a van and convert it take pictures and post them here.

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

..... I see that you do metal detecting and I did for a time but getting back into it soon, I have a Whites Coin Master Pro metal detector and have found a lot of things and over $300 dollars in coins and even a gold ring with diamonds. What do you have for a metal detector and what do you go looking for ? Jay I have a Garrett Ace 250 that my sisters got for me a few years ago. They thought I could use it as I was retired. I have not found a lot of stuff, just a few coins, a few rusty tools and an old calvary button or two. I need to spend some time learning the finer points in metal detection to fully utilize the capabilities of my detector. Hopefully, this summer will be my time to do this. Mike, the Ace 250 is a good metal detector and you can find lots of good things, I use headphones ( from Big Lots $ 10 or $12)and they work good. I have been MDing for several years and go by sound to tell what might be berried than look at my screen to see what it shows. Check out You tube for the Ace 250 and how get the best use out of it.

RE: Toilet Freezing Issue

HI Art, It's been a long time since we have talked! I have used RV antifreeze from Walmart ever since we got the Casita and never had a problem with the toilet or any of the plumbing. I first blow out the lines then add RV antifreeze pump it into the system and add extra to the toilet to keep the seal pliable. May I ask why you bother to blow the lines out if you running antifreeze thru them, the antifreeze just pushes the water out ahead of it. Soon as I start seeing pink, I go to the next one. As far as using my air compressor , and seen what drains out of the bottom ,when I drain the water from it. I would need some kind of filter system on my compressor before I would blow that air into my water lines on an RV. The compressor is handy and adding RV antifreeze is extra protection , My BIL only blow out his system and some of the water was left in the toilet valve and it froze and cracked it. It works for me and it's cheep to do. So is my compressor, but I still wonder why you bother with the air, if you are using antifreeze. you certainly don't need to. I would think its either or. I agree antifreeze is cheap, and just antifreeze works for many. cummins2014, We bought this trailer new almost 19 years ago and have not had one problem in over 40,000 miles on it! on and off Hwy use. I will keep on winterizing it the same way I have been, I hope that your wondering how I do my winterizing doesn't keep you up at night :). Have a good Holiday Season, Jay

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

Mike, nice work and great gifts for your family, some people pay good money for old farm barn wood to make picture frames and other projects . I used to do a lot of Bass fishing and trout fishing in the back country lakes. I see that you do metal detecting and I did for a time but getting back into it soon, I have a Whites Coin Master Pro metal detector and have found a lot of things and over $300 dollars in coins and even a gold ring with diamonds. What do you have for a metal detector and what do you go looking for ? I like your idea using grills for your models. Glad that you get to go camping before the real cold weather sets in! We can go camping in between the bigger storms if there is no snow on the hwy‘s Jay

Mike , I really like your photos the ducks are fun to watch. Glad to see that you and your wife are staying safe and going camping is a great way to isolate, I have 3 more visits with the PT for treatments and than I hope that I'm ready to do some winter trips. Have you done anymore van mods ? I'm going to build a cabinet on the upper right side above the bed after the first of the year. Stay safe and well, Jay

RE: My Chevrolet Express van Class B- camper

HI Mike! good to see you posting! I was thinking that no one over here at the Class B - Camping Van section has posted for a long time. It' nice to see you out camping and I enjoy the pictures of your camping in South Dakota. We didn't camp but one time do to the Covid-19 and the fires, all the state parks and the USFS campgrounds closed half of their parks down. We were getting the van packed for a camping trip the last of Oct. ( most campers were done for the year so we had lots of places to go ) I did something to my back and had to cancel the trip (still doing PT) WE hope to do a New Years camping trip to the local State Park.

RE: Trip Report - September Long

Mike, Thanks for the Video! I enjoyed the photos and seeing your van, we have a regular top GMC Savana van that I built out and we use it for short trips 1 to 2 days and for longer trips we tow our 17' Casita trailer with it.
