RE: Black Eye

It's quite clear. Your mirrors are there so you can see the jerk big rig driver riding your butt and attempting to intimidate you with aggressive honking, while you are simply trying to navigate the road in a safe manner. There is much we don't know in this story. How long was the truck driver held up? 1 hour? In one hour at 55 you go 55 miles. In one hour at 45 you go 45 miles. 10 miles difference in the hour, so the truck driver was put back maybe 8 minutes?. I suspect the whole incident may have taken less time, so the impact to the truck drivers day may have been minimal. When I am driving to a destination with our 14k fifth wheel, 3 kids, 2 dogs and wife in the truck, I will decide what speed and lane I need to be in depending on traffic and conditions. I don't intentionally hold people back, but it sometimes can happen. I also don't let, what I call, vehicle bullying, affect me in the least.

RE: Black Eye

Well, Bluedog, you have no insight into the person driving the RV. It could be someone who is new to driving an RV. Maybe it is the first time they were driving the RV in an area that has grades, and passing lanes, and the need to control speed. Maybe it was their first time on that road, with uncertainty of the lanes. When to move over? How long before I have to move back? Sometimes it may be best to stay the course if you are unsure. I feel some people should have more consideration, understanding, and compassion for other people. Possibly you, and the truck driver are the black eye?

RE: Cripple creek/Pikes Peak

We stayed a week at Lone Duck on 6/20. They are completely rebuilding the top of Pikes Peak. New visitor center, catwalks/overlooks. You were stopped at mile 16 and sent to a makeshift parking area. From there, you had to ride a shuttle bus to the top. One exception was if you had a handicap tag, you could continue on to the top. We have one, so we were able to drive to the top. Pick the day you want to go carefully. You want a clear day, otherwise, it could be cloudy and/or snowing and you won't be able to see much.

RE: Accelerating my brake controller applies the trailer brakes

Shamrocker21, same thing happened to our 2007 Tahoe. Replaced the brake pedal switch, cruise control started working.

RE: Truck - family of 5 and 65lb dog

No Problem. Don't worry about it. We have been camping for years with a 70lb Golden Doodle and a Shi Tzu. The doodle rides in the back with three kids, the Tzu in the front with us. The doodle just lays on the floor and sleeps, Unless there is food! 2012 Ram 3500 dually long bed. https://www.amazon.com/photos/all/gallery/tKmwt5KZRN-cqUO54KpbIw

RE: Help!!!! Travel Trailer Back in

We've been camping for 10 years. First, a 28' trailer, then, 36' fifth wheel, now 39' fifth wheel. Backed into so many sites, left, right, sun, at night, off cambers, off level, trees, in the rain, in the rain at night, brick retaining walls, drop offs, short sites, knocked down posts, removed posts, vehicles parked on the road. Once with a bow hunter that used our site as a parking spot. Squeezed in next to him about 4" away. Good guy though, had a good laugh when he returned. Pretty much everything. Some of these older campgrounds weren't designed for a 39' rig with long bed dually. Point is, even after 10 years, it is still hit or miss. Sometimes I get in on one shot, sometimes many more. At the storage unit, I often unhook the fifth wheel, and re-position the truck. I do a lot of Get Out and Look. Even then, I rarely get exactly where I want to be. Oh Well!

RE: How did I do this? - Bent Ball Mount

Yes, capacitor. I always got out and removed the sway bar before backing into a site.

RE: Smartplug Converstion

Ha, time2roll. I didn't order the cords for our fifth wheel. I was hoping to make a couple of very nice extension cords for the garage for low cost. All of us that got scammed on this will have to deal with it. I purchase these masks for work by the thousands. I have to say, 100 masks for $27.84 is currently not a good deal at all. In March 2020 it wasn't the worst though. And you had to prepay with a credit card, with no guarantee of when you would get them, or if you would get them at all. Now, these masks are readily available everywhere for a reasonable cost. But good quality 10/3 extension cords, for reasonable cost, are not. I guess I'll hold on to the masks for this next "Highly Contagious" variant of Covid 19.

RE: Smartplug Converstion

I received masks also. The masks will not make a good cord at all.

RE: rodent repellent

Moth balls don't work. At all. Watch the videos on youtube from Shawn Woods. Posting again in different mouse thread. Mice don't care about moth balls, or pretty much anything. There are some good kill traps as Bill Anderson has described. What we have found that works 100% is poison bait stations. Put a couple by the wheels. Don't worry friends, we are animal lovers, with many pets. Dogs, Cats, turtles, lizards. Mice can be extremely destructive. Mice are not an endangered species. They reproduce at an amazing rate. Mice are cute, so don't worry, they will survive, but not in our $60,000 fifth wheel.

RE: Smartplug Converstion

I may buy a couple of these. Not for the RV though. Cut the off the ends and convert it into a very nice, very inexpensive 10/3 extension cord.

RE: 4' LED Shop Lights In Costco?

I bought four 4' led lights for the garage from Amazon. When the lights are on, you can't open the garage doors from outside via the remote, due to some sort of rf interference. I have not found a way to determine if any lights you purchase will or will not cause this problem. Something to keep in mind...

RE: Something I've not seen before.

The first picture clearly shows the trailer tipped over. It appears the person attempted to drive off the highway, and the trailer got over center, tipping over and tearing out the king pin.

RE: Incline Parking Tips

I see this is in the travel trailer section. I also kept a Forest River Cherokee 28BHG in this spot. With that one, I would raise the front as far as the jack would go, then lower the front stabilizers for support. Then, I would retract the jack, and place more blocks under it. Then I could raise the front to level the trailer.

RE: Incline Parking Tips

Here is how I do it. If you look close, I also attach a 1/4" cable around the axle and use a lever jack to tension it. It is attached to a post in the garage. Probably overkill, as I have been parking 3 different campers in the driveway in this manner for over 10 years, and non have ever moved at all. If storms are forecasted, I will lower the front all the way to help stabilize it. https://i.imgur.com/CmfuF2cl.jpg "border=0"
