RE: TC and MPG

I had a 1999 f250 short bed with a 1997 Lance squirelite 165s i got 14 mpg. I got solid 12 pulling a 2003 wildcat fbs26 with the same truck. You can look up the specs of the 1997 lance campers to compare with what ever you get for a truck camper. That same 1999 f 250 got 12mpg pulling a car trailer with a ranger pick up on it across the western US My guess is that your mileage will be very close to 12 to 13 with a bigger camper. The 165 is about the smallest lance camper they make, at least in 1997. I have a 2002 Lance 1130 with a '06 f 350 drw now and I dont even check the mileage, it is what it is. I hate to say it but with fuel $7.00 plus it is starting to make sence to drive the honda and stay at a motel, in some situations. I really have to want to be in the camper to spend the extra money.

RE: Road tripping for used TCs

Im in Northern Cal also, near Marysville, when I started looking I looked at dozens, drove from Livermore to Redding looking, most were Scrap. My first one, the guy saw me coming and afterward I could see where he pretty much led me away from the problem areas and, I had looked at so many i just wanted to get going. a BIG mistake. My second try went better I had to travel up by Placerville but found one that was in acceptable condition, NOT what I would say was great or even very good condition but I could work with the problems I could see. We have been happy with it and at the time I thought the price was high but turned out it was pretty much the going price and so It all turned out fine. I had looked at many many fleetwoods and EVERY one was in terrible condition, I never ran across, even one that was not just totally ruined by water.I finally just quit looking at Fleetwood. I ended up with a '02 lance 1130 and for the most part pretty happy with it. Wish it didnt weigh so much but it is "roomy" for a truck camper and a dry bath that the wife insisted upon.

RE: Question for the Jeep experts

I have a Jeep Wrangler, so your GC is probably different, how ever U joints is what I would be looking at, over the years Ive had U joints squeak, squeal, click and a variety of other sounds. It would be a place to check. If any are discolored, as in showing some signs of rust,or are loose etc. The other suggestions seem logical, pinion bearing, might see if the seal is leaking.

RE: Camper basically chopped in half by tree

Well ... the moral of the story is to have each and every tree inspected by "Morgan tree service" and only Morgan tree service

RE: Purchasing Warped Roof 1997 Bigfoot 2500 9’6”?

Like I said before; "I would walk away from this one and continue the search, there are more out there and will be plenty more once we get back to what we think of as normal." I know I looked at what seemed like thousands of campers before finding the one I got, It will take some time and effort but you will find one that will be acceptable to you.

RE: Purchasing Warped Roof 1997 Bigfoot 2500 9’6”?

I would say the seller's asking price is at the upper end of the going rate, the camper is 25 years old, you have concerns/worries about possible water intrusion and its had a go with a hurricane. My opinion, if it were me, would be to pass. IF this was a "great"deal money wise, then maybe I would really consider it. I am only on my second truck camper, and learned the hard way on my first. It had water intrusion problems at the overhead vent and was almost impossible to tell from just looking, I wasn't as touchy feely as I should have been and I paid the price. I would walk away from this one and continue the search, there are more out there and will be plenty more once we get back to what we think of as normal.

RE: Renting My Truck Camper

SuperCharged, please rethink that whole idea of holding ANY one accountable, it just wont happen. Ive had enough expeirence with people to know they will NOT take responsibiity for any thing. As mentioned above Ive had rentals over the years and the incident free rental days are disappearing rapidly. At this point they move in and you cannot get them out, not that it was an easy proposition before whole virus thing. Its just my humble opinion that renting any thing is a losing proposition, of course there are many who will claim, you just dont rent to the right people, you have to have faith in your fellow man, you have to rent to a higher class of people blah blah blah... I will not say you will never get one out of many who will respect your property, but they are far and few between. People will generally scam just about any thing and everything. Again its just an opinion, every one has one.

RE: Renting My Truck Camper

I have had a few rental properties over the years, I know its a different animal, a rental RV vs Rental home, where it is long term. However you have to deal with "people" and that is the biggest pain there is. Forget the pitfalls of some one unfamiliar with your rig, and probably all campers. All the problems associated with the use, and of the loading and unloading and various operation. Just dealing with people and their complaints, problems and securing the payments, can be a nightmare. Of course not all people will be a problem but people can and will be odd and will for sure not treat your camper with the same care as you, who have earned and cared for you camper. My advise is do not do it. If you must rent it out, get your frame of mind to the idea of this is a business, and try to not have any emotional attachment to the camper just my opinion
