When do you think you'll be camping? I estimate at this rate maybe the fall? It looks great!
Getting out there before the close of this camping season is the goal...as of now.

Thanks for the encouragement! Sometimes I lose motivation with the build. But all of the positive comments help a ton!
Thanks Again!
Just keep the whole picture in mind.
You still have to get it out of your garage :).
O yes towpro, this is true. I have a plan and I’m sure it’ll be a YouTube video of the process once I get there haha.

Nice build. I wonder, because I simply don't know. Do the gases from a battery rise or fall? Not that it makes any difference but I am curious. It's an interesting build and you are talented. A lot of work. It's nice that it's all in the same compartment though. I think I would have found another place to put them batteries. JMHO
Sorry, I dint see the above post.
Yes, building version 2.0 of the battery vent hood was a lot of work. But this late in the build, it would have been more work to relocate the batteries.
Thanks for the comment.
I've watched all your video's and you have some talent! My first truck camper was a beeline 1966. My dad bought it when I was five and handed down to me when I got home from the navy. It had a gas heater that was made in England and the parts for it were from west Germany. It looked like a tiny little wood stove. The pilot light lit a flame that heated up a ceramic core. I never saw it work. The heater was a wash early on but I did try to get parts for it. This was before the internet so either by mail or phone. I never found the parts. Your going to have a great time camping. It will be better for you because of pride in your work and not the money you spent. Keep it coming...

RE: 1977 Sunline Truck Camper FULL BUILD

In my setup, I framed and boxed in where the batteries are, then used a section of abs pipe with a louverd vent cover on the outside that goes straight through the tub wall (As my battery boxes are inside the two dinette seats) at the highest point in the compartment.
Any recommendations on the style of louver for going to the exterior of the camper?
I actually found them pre-made in the roofing aisle at home depot. They make round soffit louvers caps that have a screen in them that fit perfectly inside of a 2" piece of ABS pipe.
Mine extend past the skin about an inch and a half and I angled the opening just a bit to match the curvature of the aluminum skin on the outside.
As to the subject about watering the batteries, that's very easily taken care of with a water filling cap kit for the batteries themselves.
https://www.amazon.com/Flow-Rite-RV2000-Pro-Fill-Battery-Kit/dp/B001FCAXT0/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3VL6ACX18AOLS&dchild=1&keywords=battery+watering+system&qid=1611622375&sprefix=Battery+Water%2Cautomotive%2C315&sr=8-3
This method only requires connecting a squeeze ball assembly and inserting the hose into a jug of distilled water and squeezing till the ball becomes first (The battery caps have floats in them that close when the batteries reach ideal water levels).
I am using this method on my rig as well, so I only have to open one compartment up to go and water the batteries periodically.
Thanks for the advice

RE: 1977 Sunline Truck Camper FULL BUILD

You really designed yourself into a pickle on this one…that venting system is in no way adequate…
I have since realized that the venting is not adequate. I’ve built the camper from the ground up, so anything can be changed to make improvements. Thanks for the recommendations.

RE: 1977 Sunline Truck Camper FULL BUILD

I appreciate all of the replies and advice on the battery vent system. This camper and battery ventilation system is a work in progress and can be improved.
I did not think about the negative pressure that probably will occur when running the ceiling vent fan. I’m currently thinking/designing modifications to the battery vent system shown in the video for improvements.
Any other advice is welcome.
Thanks,
Jay

RE: 1977 Sunline Truck Camper FULL BUILD

One question. Have you vented the battery storage area to the outside? If not, you should. Battery fumes are toxic and explosive.
Keep up the good work.
Dale
Thanks Dale! And yes you will see in a future video my solution for battery venting. Thanks again for the tips!
