RE: Moderna vaccine (Personal experiences)

Mood on vaccination clinics: Happy, excited and thankful! Happy mood on both patients and health professionals at vaccination venues. Felt and seen this too! Absolutely! People running the site did a great job. I went to a drive through clinic and it ran like clockwork. There were a lot of cars but things moved along quite quickly. I was out in under an hour with an appointment for my second dose. I also signed up for the CDC's V-safe program. They send you a text with a link to a website where they give you a list of possible side effects that you can select if you've had them. During the first week you get a text every day and then once a week for the next 5 weeks. Seems like a good way to get feedback on any reactions to the vaccines.

RE: Moderna vaccine (Personal experiences)

Got the #1 jab of Pfizer yesterday. I had no idea which one I'd get when I showed up, but then again I really didn't care. So far no issues. Arm is a little bit sore but no worse really than a regular flu shot.

RE: best replacement range hood

If you're replacing the range hood anyway you might consider the Fabulous Operating Products range upgrade kit. Its made by the same people who were the original owners of the Fantastic Fans. Remove the fan housing the frame and install their upgraded unit. It's got a quite 3 speed fan moves a lot more air and has an LED light with 2 brightness settings. It also has a vent that can be opened/closed from the inside. Cost is around $200. I did this upgrade a couple years ago because DW loves to cook and was constantly setting off the smoke alarm. After replacement no more alarms. My original hood was a Hengs brand with the fan box spot welded in place so replacement was a bit tedious but not complicated. Other brands have the box screwed on which makes replacement much more plug and play.

RE: Any good/cheap electric razor for camping?

I got this one about 6 months ago and I'm pleased with it. I got tired of buying razor blades so decided to give electric a try. The Norelco's and Braun's were all in the $200 range which seemed steep to me if I didn't like it. The Yohoolio was $38 so I figured it was worth a try.

RE: Daschund legs

I am inclined to concentrate on exercise and limit the use of a doggie chair as I don't wan't her to learn to use the front to the detriment of trying to reestablish use of her back leg. Yes/No? Not sure which brand wheel chair you bought, but in the Eddie's Wheels chair Morgan is still able to use his back legs. He walks his back legs when he's moving around sort of like a doggie walker. It does seem to help improve the little walking ability he has somewhat. It does have foot rests to keep the feet elevated but if I put his legs up on them he just pulls them down. Another thought, Morgan also had several rounds of acupuncture after his surgery which seemed to help. This was recommended by our vet so you might want to check with yours to see if that's an option.

RE: Daschund legs

Can't say if the jacuzzi will help. For Morgan's PT they had an underwater treadmill for the hydrotherapy the doc mentioned. We asked about doing this at home in the pool and were told it wouldn't hurt, but dogs mostly swim with their front legs so it might not help that much. We were also instructed to periodically pinch the webbing between his toes until he pulled his leg away to stimulate the nerves. When he was going to PT they gave us a list of things we could work on at home but the toe pinch is the only one I remember offhand. Do you have an animal physical therapy clinic in your area? If so it might be worth asking them if they have experience with IVDD dogs.

RE: Daschund legs

We have been through this with our dachshund, Morgan, and it can be frustrating but not insurmountable. We rescued him when he was 4 yrs old and a year later he ruptured a disc chasing his ball. From everything I've read this is genetic and 5 years of age is typical for this injury appear. We went the surgery route along with physical therapy and he did recover - for a while. Apparently, he developed scar tissue that put pressure on the spinal cord, so he gradually lost most of the use of his hind legs. He can still occasionally walk but it's not graceful. I disagree with your vet about the wheelchair. We have one and Morgan loves it. He started using it when he was 7 I (I think) and he’s 11 now and shows no sign of slowing down. So I’m not sure why using it for 6-7-8 years is a problem. IMHO NOT being able to use one for 6-7-8 years would be a problem. It just lets him be a dog again. We only use it for outside and it gives him the ability to run and chase his ball and go on walks again. He goes crazy when we pick it up because he knows he’s going outside. They do need supervision when they’re in it in case it gets caught on something. Morgan has even managed to flip it over chasing a rabbit in the yard. I recommend Eddie's Wheels, they custom build the wheelchair to the dog’s measurements. The place where he was getting his PT recommended them and took his measurement for me. I did my own research as well before I bought and didn’t think any of the other options were nearly as good. The website is eddieswheels dot com. You can also get what’s referred to as a drag bag. Basically, a bag that your put the dog in with harness that goes around the upper neck/torso and protects the legs from getting scraped up when the drag around. We had one for Morgan, but he really hated it. So inside we just let him drag himself around. Our floors are tile and laminate so he can’t tear himself up. Good luck with whatever path you choose and let me know if you questions I might be able to answer.

RE: Durability of Command strip hooks and hangers?

I've had them up for 9 years since I bought the trailer, so they've survived multiple 100 degree plus days. Hang the clock the weather center and dog leashes. The weather center is probably the heaviest at 2 or 3 lbs. Also have a couple of those Command plastic bins near the bed for reading glasses and cell phones. We do take down the clock & weather center and empty the bins for travel.

RE: Employment VS Unemployment

It's worth noting that most minimum wage jobs don't come with benefits. No healthcare, no retirement, no 401K and often no vacation or sick time.

RE: Dog food scam

- they seem to like almost all "people food" although dill pickles are met with a "thanks, but no thanks" walkaway....LOL! I have 4 dogs so the attractiveness of the food is directly proportional to the number of dogs present. If I drop a piece of lettuce on the floor and there is only one dog in the kitchen it gets ignored, but if there's 2 or more the closest dog will scarf it down in a flash. Sometimes before it even hits the floor. :B

The vaccines are apportioned to the states and it's up to each state to determine the priority for who gets the vaccine when and how to notify those who are next in line. In Arizona at least the responsibility for distribution has been delegated down to individual counties so there will be even more variation. I've heard that will take at least to the end of the summer before most people can receive the vaccination. Of course if more vaccines get approved that should speed things up.

The initial recommendations that masks were unnecessary were due to the thought that Covid transmission was similar to the seasonal flu where people already know they're sick by the time they can transmit the disease. Therefore a mask didn't do much because the person would be home in bed and not out in public spreading it. Later it was determined that a Covid infected person is capable of spreading the disease for up to 2 weeks before the onset of symptoms, and in some cases remained asymptomatic. So instead of being home in bed, infected people were out and about spreading the disease without knowing they were sick. This is where the mask becomes effective in reducing the spread and led to the change in recommendations.

RE: Need help with Jesse-behavior

Drinking and peeing a lot are symptoms of elevated glucose levels. You said that his insulin dose appears to be correct, how do you know? Glucose levels can fluctuate a lot depending on a whole host of variables. Do you have a glucose meter that you can use to test him at home? If not, Walmart has them pretty cheap.

RE: Selecting portable compressor

I have the Viair 300P and very happy with it. A little overkill maybe, but it works very well. I use it to air up the trailer and truck tires. Before this I had a couple of the cheapo type that plug into the cigarette lighter but they took a long time and didn't last. So I watched the internet for a bit and found the Viair for a pretty good price. Been using it for several years now with no issues.

RE: New England Travel

Yea i don't get the whole it's my freedom thing and this virus. Does freedom really mean we have the right to make others sick Tell me this, if you believe in masks and wear one then you are 'protected'. How does someone not wearing a mask affect you?? Because a person can have the disease and spread it without yet having any symptoms. Therefore you go about your normal activities without realizing you are spreading it. The mask cuts down on spreading the virus to other people.

RE: Folding Bikes

I have a Dahon as well and love it. It's only takes a second to fold or unfold and its well built and rides quite nicely. Prices have gone up lately, most likely due to the tariffs, but you can sometimes find them on Craigslist.

RE: After one day, I am finished.....

These threads bring to mind this quote from the movie "The American President" "America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the "land of the free"."

Most of those I hear objecting to wearing masks feel that their rights are being impacted. What doesn't seem to be understood is that since Covid-19 can be spread by people that don't know they have the disease, by not wearing a mask they are the ones impacting the rights of others.

RE: The newest and shortest Interstate...

I-11 is in the early planning stages to run from Vegas south, run west of Phoenix and Tucson and eventually hook up with I-10 east of Tucson. But they are still arguing over the exact route so it may not happen in my lifetime. If ever.
