RE: Places to camp....?

Thousand Trails, Zone Pass Camping is a great money-saver. I also use Passport America and COE Parks. Just finished over 20,000 miles in 13 months.

RE: Where, oh where to go

I did Dodge City, KS... some say worthwhile, some say don't bother. I enjoyed it. Went to Durange, CO... interesting. Over Wolf Creek Pass was an experience, but I enjoyed it. Branson is among my favorites. Charleston (the Battery) is beautiful.

RE: Disconnect battery when not using?

I agree with Salem.... I was told to leave the battery on when connected to shore power for the converter and other things like LP detector (hardwired into 12 volt). I did disconnect mine when I was not using trailer. Used the knife blade cut off switch. Also, when traveling down the road, aren't the trailer brakes powered by the trailer battery?

RE: RV King Topper

Electric knife cuts foam great.

RE: Fresh Tank Filling on City Water

My last travel trailer did that and it was the check valve in the pump. The dealer ended up installing a turn-off valve so the city water would not run into the fresh water tank. Fine, except when you wanted to fill the fresh water tank, you had to turn that newly installed valve on. But, it did fix the problem.. for the time being.

RE: weight of MH

Does the registration for the current plate have a weight on it? Is it drivable (enough) to get it to CAT scale at a truck stop and get a good weight?

RE: How do you summer travel?

For those using a generator during summer travel, I personally do not see it being a cost effective night's stay. Fuel consumption for the night, to me, would equal staying at a COE park, Passport American park or similar cheaper spot. In one year of traveling cross country and back to FL, I stayed in 1 WalMart and that was because I could not find a suitable campground in the area I was in. And, since it was 47 outside, no need to worry about a generator.

RE: I hope I'm done!!!

3 stink bugs here! In one of the campgrounds, I got a platoon of those itty bitty black ants. And, sometwhere in TN or NC, the stink bugs started. I have never dealt with stink bugs before, been rving since 1992. First time.

RE: Fulltime family of 4: 2019 year in review

Great trip! Are you using Excel or a trip expense planner? I have been out a year now, have all my expenses down on paper, but have not totaled them.

RE: Seasonal site N Florida or S Georgia

Coastal in Brunswick, GA looked nice when I rode through there. Stagecoach RV in St. Augustine (off I-95) nice, but no concrete pads the last time I was there.

RE: Trailer upgrade

I like the Montana, had 2... but being a female (and a widow!) if DW prefers the Solitude, my 2 cents.. make her happy!

A prayer for Stanley N. So sorry ... hard to watch them go down hill. Hospice is great. Barb

RE: Traveling Alone

My husband and I full-timed since 2004, although we owned our own lot in a RV resort. He passed away in 2015. I did all the driving, most of the work involved, he was not able to do a lot. Last year I decided I wanted to travel, sold the lot, took off with my cocker spaniel and traveled out west from FL. Am now back in FL, had a fantastic time. Things happened, but deal with it as you have to. No regrets. Never felt alone. Hope to have a couple of more good years of traveling. I am now 76. Seend things, done things, only dreamed about before.

RE: Harvest Host users

I am not a member of Harvest Hosts, but I have been traveling for just over a year now. Have talked to several people in the campgrounds who are members and they are very happy with it. IMO, besides the annual membership which has increased to my understanding and suggested purchases from hosts, most no hookups, would not make me want to join.

RE: Quiet side of the Smokies

My first thought would have been Townsend and Caves Cove. In Waynesville, NC (right near Maggie Valley) is a campground called Pride RV Resort...very nice.

RE: V 10 mpg

i always figured 8.0 mpg... uphill, downhill, headwind or tailwind. Towing or not. Seemed it always averaged out to that over a trip.

RE: Large dog

My first thought was the breed and the ban on certain breeds in the campgrounds, due to "their insurance policy." In State Parks and COE parks I have seen many "banned breeds." I travel with a cocker spaniel, we have crossed the country this year and back now in home state. Yes, he does limit me to what I chose to do, but his companion ship and joy he brings me more than makes up for it. In one private campground this trip, were 8 long-haired Chihuahua's and a German Shepherd... in about a 26' travel trailer with 3 adults. Hmmmm. Until both of you can agree on getting a furkid, best to rethink it. JMHO.

RE: Texas road map

I use AAA for maps (when I am a member..) or a Welcome Station at the state lines. Tourist info centers also have state maps, I have found.

RE: Broken key, locked out of TT, no spare :(

I did that once and called AAA... locksmith came out and he picked the broken key out... I did have a spare to open the door, so 1/2 of your problem. Maybe locksmith could get the door unlocked while he is there?
