RE: Trailer upgrade

I like the Montana, had 2... but being a female (and a widow!) if DW prefers the Solitude, my 2 cents.. make her happy!

RE: Traveling Alone

My husband and I full-timed since 2004, although we owned our own lot in a RV resort. He passed away in 2015. I did all the driving, most of the work involved, he was not able to do a lot. Last year I decided I wanted to travel, sold the lot, took off with my cocker spaniel and traveled out west from FL. Am now back in FL, had a fantastic time. Things happened, but deal with it as you have to. No regrets. Never felt alone. Hope to have a couple of more good years of traveling. I am now 76. Seend things, done things, only dreamed about before.

RE: Harvest Host users

I am not a member of Harvest Hosts, but I have been traveling for just over a year now. Have talked to several people in the campgrounds who are members and they are very happy with it. IMO, besides the annual membership which has increased to my understanding and suggested purchases from hosts, most no hookups, would not make me want to join.

RE: Quiet side of the Smokies

My first thought would have been Townsend and Caves Cove. In Waynesville, NC (right near Maggie Valley) is a campground called Pride RV Resort...very nice.

RE: V 10 mpg

i always figured 8.0 mpg... uphill, downhill, headwind or tailwind. Towing or not. Seemed it always averaged out to that over a trip.

RE: Large dog

My first thought was the breed and the ban on certain breeds in the campgrounds, due to "their insurance policy." In State Parks and COE parks I have seen many "banned breeds." I travel with a cocker spaniel, we have crossed the country this year and back now in home state. Yes, he does limit me to what I chose to do, but his companion ship and joy he brings me more than makes up for it. In one private campground this trip, were 8 long-haired Chihuahua's and a German Shepherd... in about a 26' travel trailer with 3 adults. Hmmmm. Until both of you can agree on getting a furkid, best to rethink it. JMHO.

RE: Texas road map

I use AAA for maps (when I am a member..) or a Welcome Station at the state lines. Tourist info centers also have state maps, I have found.

RE: Broken key, locked out of TT, no spare :(

I did that once and called AAA... locksmith came out and he picked the broken key out... I did have a spare to open the door, so 1/2 of your problem. Maybe locksmith could get the door unlocked while he is there?

RE: Got our newish camper!!

Congratulations on the wise choice and waiting for the most perfect one you could fine. I have a central vacumn in my Hideout travel trailer (by Keystone) and have never used it! Too much trouble to get the hose out and set it up. But 16 out of 18 items is great. Since you are in FL, can see a camping trip coming up on the agenda! Happy Trails

RE: Filling Propane While Traveling

I put the tank in the truck in a milk crate. Usually try to find a local Tractor Supply on the smarter than me phone as they charge by the gallon only. If not, a regular LP place. For a motorhome I used to have to find a LP dealer where I could pull the motorhome up to for filling. Flying J used to have LP. Some parks have a LP turck which comes through certain days and you have to sign up for it. Lots of options. Also, my understanding from an LP dealer is the exchange tanks are not filled to the normal capacity and be careful in getting one with an expired OPD.

RE: Help and Advice on a badly placed 5th wheel

RE: Lightning Protection

I was told to put my stablilizers on wood or lynx levelers so the stabilizers are not in direct contact with the ground. A motorhome recently burned up in a campground and it was mentioned the lightning hit the levelers. They were directly on the ground.

RE: Dog Found

Thanks for being concerned. Sometimes people have to go on even tho the pet is lost. That is sad. Sometimes a pet can get away when the person thinks they are inside. Hopefully pet and owner can reconnect.

RE: Campground Theft

Sorry to hear that... they do cost a little money. Since 1992 (year started RVing) this is the first year I have had problems. Gas... 3 times, I am very sure. Guessing 2 gallons the first time, but about 5 the last time. 2nd time, think my furkid scared them off. IL (State park, camphost right across the street) and NC, private campground.

RE: Augusta, Ga. to Pensacola cross country suggestions.

I went from FL out to the NW area and used mostly US highways. Enjoyed all the scenery and the easier pace.

RE: Is it a fiver or class a or c?
