RE: 180 Day Window Opening

As most of you know I have / was always a Reservation Guy. Why? I want to get to a destination, know the campground I am in, know I have a spot I / we can get settled in and start enjoying why we are there. And not thrown into the last spot next to the dump station. And not spending that time driving from rv park to rv park trying to find an opening - and then, many times, at a place I would not want to stay because it is the only place with openings - with probably a reason for that. You know I also do a lot of photography so I am prone to be doing it in prime times.

RE: Bryce to Capitol Reef

That, like Red Mountain Pass and many others...........You do not have control of the guy coming against you and you have two choices - hit them or go over the side. Simple as that.

RE: Been A Great Ride !

Wow, thank all of you so much. I have not been on here in a while and this was so wonderful to see! I will stop by on occasion as some things really don't change. Have met so many great people on the Forum and, yes, a few them in person.....Ken & Allison for a short visit that was great ... many others over the years. And some on the phone. Our truck and 5er will be on the market shortly - 2006 Chev Dura / Allison (117k miles) and 2006 Mobile Suites 32. Both is excellent mech condition but, as one could understand, show like they are a 2006 vintage. We got about every option MS & Chev offered. Good units. God bless all of you and I will check in from time to time. In the meantime do not drive your rv down hwy 550 south of Ouray or you might beat me to Heaven! :-) Lauren

RE: It Has Been A Great Ride!

Yes, we will look for those places as there are where we have loved to be. Will be looking to rustic Aibbnb as well. It's in our blood!

It Has Been A Great Ride!

Most of you know I have been active on here for many years. It has been my basic source of information and I have been glad to share Barbara, Sadie (woof) and my experiences over 21 years of part time rv'ing in the 11 western states and 2 western provinces; staying in 193 different rv places - many several times. But our rv'ing life is over. Three weeks ago I had open heart surgery for valve and vein replacement. It was very successful and in a few months I will be back to normal. We had talked about quitting for a couple of years so this is fine. What a blessing it is has been. Enjoy and be safe. God bless. Lauren

RE: Ouray to Bluff, UT

Thank you - and thanks for the chuckle. Sad day. We were in Banff this day in 2001. OMG, Busskipper, the colors just keep improving. Absolutely beautiful. Have driven Red Mountain Pass to near the top (once to the top) 4 times so far and just getting better - 3 times alone for photo work and once with Barbara and Sadie. We drove from Ouray to To Hell U Ride today and blown away. Doing Red Mountain tomorrow again to the mine / old town - the three of us. Have not a clue how many pix I have taken.

RE: Ouray to Bluff, UT

I think I needed to make myself more clear. We are pulling the 5er from Ouray to Bluff for two nights and then on to South Rim. Lizard Head we have done many times. Looking for info in regards to pulling the 5er...........am experienced mountain driver. Steep does not really concern me but tight curves I want to do without - too many people take their half out of the middle.

Ouray to Bluff, UT

We arrived here in Ouray two days ago and six more to go. Think we will hit the "gold" just right. Then heading to Bluff, UT for 2 nights and on to South Rim Grand Canyon. Million Dollar Hwy ranks up there as one of the most beautiful drives there is - up to the top twice for photo work and will be so another 5-6 times. Reminded that it is not for rv; we are experienced at rv driving in mountains and this is a definite no for rv. Had group of motorcycles weaving in and out both lanes into blind curves. Ho boy.But let's not go into that. Not why I am here this time. OK, here to Bluff? Google shows 3 routes but I like to get input on here when possible. Ouray to Bluff. Will also check Mountain Directory. Thanks - be safe. Lauren

RE: Best Trip Planner?

Boy, have not crossed paths with Renee in a long time - good to see you on here. I do it much the same - go to Google maps and, if needed / wanted, on here to ask questions. This has worked well for me for many years (in our 21st year part time rv'ing) Lauren

RE: Buena Vista to Carbondale CO KOA

Thanks, guys. We did the 91 route and so glad we did. Long story short there was a motorhome of to the side about mile 15 so we pulled over also to take a break. Seems they are broken down and cannot get cell signal. So we took all the info and called their AAA when we got signal about 4 miles north. AAA took all the info and said they would take care of it. We may or may not hear another thing or the outcome. Ya know what - makes no difference; we smiled all the way to Carbondale. Well, almost --- that darn net intersection in Glenwood Springs!

Thinking best bet pulling the 5th wheel would be 24-91-I70-82-133. Thoughts & comments appreciated.

RE: Driving from Zion to Capitol Reef

Capitol Reef is one of our favorite places - so glad you are going there. We have been there several times. Crowds are not like the others. So beautiful. I would go 89 - 62 - 24; have done it many times - about 175 miles, good road and good decision not to go 12 with trailer. You have no control of the guy coming against you. PM or email me if you want info on C R. Lauren

RE: Minneapolis to Flagstaff, AZ

Thanks. He leaves Tues am and has three days to do it. 500 miles a day is his usual so not sightseeing as such. I told him I would buy coffee if he comes thru Buena Vista. I have driven and also photographed Million Dollar many times. In fact we will in Ouray once again (8th time) on Sept 6th for 9 days. I just did not know some of the roads from Denver down. He sold his Harley and BMW bikes and bought this used one up there where he came from in MN. Don't know what kind he got. Oh, he is my 64 year old very good friend and pastor! Lauren

Minneapolis to Flagstaff, AZ

Have a dear friend who will leave Tuesday from Minneapolis heading to Flagstaff, AZ. He will be on a new to him motorcycle and is a very experienced rider. The map things take him all down interstates into NE, KS, etc. I would like to see him come over thru Denver to exit 195, down 91 to Leadville, 24 to 285 to 112 to 160/491 to 89 to Flag. See the gold in the mountains. He is used to riding 500 miles per day without issue. Any thoughts before I go back to him? He flies out Monday to Minneapolis. (Also, we are in Buena Vista in an RV park and would like quick cup of coffee). Thanks. Lauren

RE: An Omen of Early Autumn - Colorado? - UPDATE 09/03/18

Hey, ThunderMtn, I am in BV at Valley RV site 54. Some 8060 feet at our site. Have drive Independence Pass to 12000 and saw SOME changes (this was a week ago) and have driven a lot of places around here. Don't see much change yet. I planned us to be in Ouray second week in Sept for 8 days.....we have done that timing before and Red Mountain Pass is in its glory. Unfortunately, Cottonwood Pass is closed as it is beautiful. And been very windy here. Love CO.
