Clamp on DC amp meter would be a better test.

RE: onan 5500

The old generators that ran 1800 rpm and had big pistons will last longer than the smaller 3600 rpm of similar output mostly due to the speed, but also due to smaller parts having to undergo the same workload that wear faster than the big-ole parts. Nothing you can do about this difference, just know it so you do not compare them. The Onan 5500 motor runs at 2400 rpm...the generator head is belt drive and turns 3600 rpm

RE: Am I over the Max 5fer length?

I think it would be helpful for a definition on how a 5th Wheel trailer is measured? Is it from the pin to the bumper or nose cap to the bumper?

RE: New RV USB plugs, what amperage are they?

OP here. I wasn't looking for a standard, just tell me what's currently installed. I've installed plenty of USB ports among many other things in RVs, so that's no big deal. I think the answer is no one knows...not even the the tester if you must know.

RE: BEV as a toad behind diesel pusher

the problem is if you are still turning the electric drive motor while going down the interstate that is not good for efficiency. I was looking at towing my Nissan Leaf BEV, which is FWD only, with a tow dolly and haven't found any problems with that. Yes you can use the normal park 50 amp for charging or just plug into a regular outlet. Yes, it will be slow using L1 (120V) charging...but its not like most people are driving around all day.

RE: Tank treatment that can restore sensor accuracy?

Best thing I have found is to occasionally travel with tanks 1/2 or so and dump immediately after arriving. The sloshing seems to help clean everything...doesn't always work...but helps most of the time for me...over the last 20 years and 3 different RVs this is what I have found.

RE: Nissan for a tow vehicle

that is a lot for a Titan in my opinion. I towed lots of miles with a 2006 Titan and a 6,000 lbs. scaled weight trailer...I wouldn't want to go much heavier.

RE: EV's I know there are folks better versed than me in here

Yes you can find some issues if you go looking for them. You can find even more boring success stories too but they don't make for exciting print. One thing I'm not sure of for police use is idle time sitting on the roadside running heat or AC. Either watching traffic, surveillance, or completing paperwork there is a lot of time spent in the vehicle, if the car is driven maybe 50% of the shift, and just sitting with the climate control running, will a single charge cover a full shift? I'm pretty sure a Tesla can run the AC or heat for a day or two on a charged battery... if just parked.

RE: EV's I know there are folks better versed than me in here

Some of the new Tesla's can charge at rate of 900 miles per hour with a 250kw charger....charging speeds are going up with some of the new vehicles.
