RE: Longer closure gathering momentum...

CBC has one of the best records for fact checking on Planet Earth. :)

RE: Longer closure gathering momentum...

Well, those who have posted are expecting too much too soon. Again this is a virus, not influenza. That there will be a 2nd phase of lots of "victims" is what I hear up here. Yes, on Friday the Atlantic Canadian Bubble will open. & will have lots of checks in place. That it might be of short duration, looking back at the Spanish Flu of the past century, I rather expect. Europe and NZ are more serious than USA. :(

RE: Anybody do a fall (sept/oct) Newfoundland Labrador

Latest on World connections. New Zealand is keeping borders closed. Europe has a list of countries whose citizens would be accepted there. Canada is on the yes list, USA ignored. Predictions for CA USA border, may stay closed a full year to 15 months. :h

RE: Anybody do a fall (sept/oct) Newfoundland Labrador

& the chance of open boarders seems to me to be growing less by events down there right now. You may be planning for 2021. :)

RE: Border closure extended

This past weekend I heard that Yukon Quest 2021 may be changed so that those who race on the US side stay there and those who race on the Canadian side stay in Canada. Thinking 9 months ahead they are!!! :)

RE: Anybody do a fall (sept/oct) Newfoundland Labrador

There is a good long fall, first frost often not until mid-October. Quite a number of logging roads. I lived there for 25 years. :B

RE: Fish Chowder

My father made a fish stew. Simpler, but very yummy Bacon sliced into 1/4" wide pieces. Brown that Dice onion to taste and add 2 lb. haddock, diced in 1/2" pieces. 1 cup diced potatoes. Add fish, cover with water. Dice celery to taste and add. This makes the stew be sure not to be boiling. Stir in milk. 2 cups whole milk. Keep at low temperature for a good 20 miniutes. Actually, I find a day in the fridge enhances the flavour. Above quantities will make 4 servings. :B This is pretty close to mine. I do use shrimp, clams or scallops instead of fish. I also add about 1 1/2 Tbsp of real butter. Cook on low and add the shellfish last. If I don’t have whole milk I use evaporated whole milk. I am allergic to scallops. :(

RE: Newfoundland

July, OK Old NL saying: Newfoundland has 2 seasons, winter and July. Actually fall is warmer longer than spring. Frost may not come until late October. My first spring there, I had snow on my 50,000 sq. ft lot on May 23. &, of course, it takes while for the roads maintenance crews to patch up the frost heaves. But July can be TOOOOOOOOOO hot. Granted I retired and crossed The Gulf in 2008. Oh yeah, Gros Morne National Park has NS's Cape Breton Highlands National Park beat (IMHO) 1,000 to 1. :B

RE: Newfoundland

A) The Maritimes = NB, NS, PEI (those provinces who were a part of original Confederation. B) Atlantic Canada = above 3 + NL, Joey created that term. When you get to that Province make sure you say Atlantic Canada. & say New Fun Land. Yep, saying 'found' is taboo. I lived and worked there for almost 25 years, but retired in 2008. Of course, there are changes. Make sure to dine out at least once a week. :B

RE: Remembrance Day

I'm just learning something. The Allies recruited labour to clean up roads and do other manual labour. These men came from China and were quietly shipped across Canada to be ferried to France. The quietness of the effort was because immigrant Chinese had to pay $500.00 to stay in Canada in those days. :h CBC Radio, The Current, is my source.

RE: I want something different!

I think you need to move to the country. & possibly to a place 100 Km from salt water. Though granted when I lived near salt water, neighbors who fished in fresh water streams would give me fish in exchange for the worms I gave them from my garden. :@

RE: East Canada

Yes, it is Prince Edward Island. To cross is free, you pay coming back and the bridge is less that the ferry. A) NB, NS, & PEI together are called "The Maritimes". B) Those 3 plus NL - Newfoundland and Labrador - are called Atlantic Canada. I lived in NL for 25 years. The Maritimes, now up to 16 years. Gros Morne National Park has Cabot Trail bested by many choices. Many ways to go. & going one way up Cabot Trail to northern Cape Breton Island is very good. Add in the islands between NB and Maine Very much worth it. Go to google: put in 'name of province & tourism'. Either send for tourist guide or call to tell them your special interests. Have fun. :B)

RE: Taking Dog Food from Canada to USA

dfm, is right. To go to the USA it has to have been made in the USA and as said before, it has to be in the original bags. 'Tis why I fed mine Purina. 'Cause you can get it in both countries and vets agree that it is good nutrition. :)

RE: A new forum PLEASE

If it's a gathering why not put it in the Rallies, Shows and Gatherings forum? 'Cause there are recipes for what food is cooked at the DOG. & sometimes competitions for different types of food. :p

RE: A new forum PLEASE

^ Just looking at thread subjects - looks like the G is for Gatherings. Dutch Oven Gatherings. I think the DOG posts belong here - after all that is definitely camp cooking - just skip them if not interested. Ditto :B
