RE: Seal around windows, doors, and lights

Your reading was accurate IMO and silicone is not recommended by most RVers.

RE: 3.42 gears for TC

Seems you are "over trucked" for the load you will be toting. You won't have any issues IMO.

No image except the map.

RE: Boulder Creek RV Resort and Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest

Absent rain, snow and ice that 12 miles is easily doable in a 2WD IMO.

RE: DC to AC help

With an adequate solar system you’ll have no generator time unless air conditioning is needed. The TV will work fine with a 200 to 300 watt cigarette plug-in PSW inverter. Coffee makers pull more juice.

RE: Coleman-Mach 48008-966 AC large voltage drop

Hughes also makes a plug-in voltmeter that sells for twenty-five bucks or so.

RE: My new (rarely used as a) tow vehicle

I think you'll like the white paint during the warmer months. I do.

RE: Not one but two blowouts

Tires or road hazard? I believe tires are blamed for more than their share. Truck tires on a trailer sounds good but IMO they aren't built for the stresses that a trailer puts on them. Any studies other than "on my trailer..."?

RE: Coleman-Mach 48008-966 AC large voltage drop

Voltage drops can be solved with an autoformer.

And lubricate IMO.

RE: New member looking for 1st TT!

"Also, our trips will mostly be long weekends. Occasional week I suppose." On long weekend trips you will have blown tires, wind, heat, rain etc. just like long vacations. All the rules still apply.

RE: Lowering / raising with manual jacks

Four inches at a time seems excessive...try two. Regarding electric jacks and trailer tongue jacks, I'm a fan of using a battery powered drill.

RE: Residential vs Gas/Electric Fridge?

200 Lithium amps isn't enough to run a fridge for a week or so IMO and you'll have other draws. And, again IMO, "planning" to use both solar and a generator is planning to fail. Plan to recharge the batteries with solar by itself with a generator as a backup or for A/C.

RE: New member looking for 1st TT!

Beware of the RV salespeople saying "Why you can tow any trailer on this lot with that big truck you got." You can't, you shouldn't. Concentrate on your truck's payload after you liberally estimate the weight of people and stuff that will be in the truck when towing. 13% to 15% of the trailer's weight should be the tongue weight.
Lwiddis 05/24/22 10:49am Travel Trailers

With a solid 15% of tongue weight I'll wager a WDH is unnecessary. My Chevy book too, SJM.

RE: Newbie Ques for hitch selection

What is the MDX's payload capacity? Will you have 600 pounds left over after loading up the MDX with people and stuff?

RE: It's been fun and informative but....

If you are continuing to camp in your small trailer, please stick around.

RE: Declared Value Insurance.....any carriers you recommend?

“I only carry liability insurance, so, this would have been devastating if…” Exactly why I carry full insurance. I don’t want to be financially devastated.
