RE: toll charges

Thanks---I found the site to calculate the fees. From what I've seen, this might be an alternative for travel south. We don't have toll roads here in the frozen North Idaho area, so I'm not familiar with how they work. Our roads are "paved - unpaved." Also, from what I've gathered, the toll roads around the U.S. don't have a real agreement for a pass that can be used freely across the states. Maybe Congress could address issues like this, but I'm sure they have more "important" things to do. Thanks again........ You're welcome. If you hate tolls as much as I do, don't come to my home state of PA. With the fuel taxes near the top of the nation, they are proposing adding tolls on many more bridges. The whole northeast has a network of toll roads that are nothing more than added expense for everything and they wonder why business is moving south. You mention congress, yes we have interstate highways funded in large part by the federal but many of these bridges are interstates that the state wants to tax (toll). Haha. We're from Berks County and heading to Texas next week. First stop will be Winchester, Virginia to fill up with diesel which is about 40 cents a gallon cheaper. With the Flying J card it's 8cents cheaper so that's almost 50 cents. Our state sucks with all the taxes we pay and the Pa turnpike is the most expensive toll road in the world.

RE: Keystone Rant

We have a Keystone Cougar and love it. I remember when the Outbacks came out, they looked nice in a magazine. But when we went to see one at an RV show the workmanship didn't suit us. If you ever saw a picture of an RV being built, they start with the floor and build everything around it. How they could replace the floor and put it back together correctly is beyond me.

RE: Maine to Yellowstone

I would recommend Harold Warp's Pioneer Museum in Minden,Nebraska. If you like history, old cars, trucks, tractors ,motorcycles, this place has it in spades. They have a campground by the museum and you get a free ticket to the museum with one night of camping. It's about 10 miles south of I-80.

RE: campground reservations

RE: Nebraska Rt. 2

Years ago, we took 385 south from South Dakota across Rt2 then RT83 down into North Platte. The roads were all good. The only thing I remember at that time was gas stations were few and far between.

RE: Charleston SC

We stayed at James Island County Park Campground in September 2019 for my Navy Ship reunion. All FHU,shaded sites. Camp store, paved trails for walking or bike riding. They have a huge dog park with a beach just for dogs. They also have a water park for kids.

RE: Key West or Out West

Pick a few places you really want to see and spend a few days at each one.We like to pick an area and then see what's there. Sometimes there are multiple things of interest in some areas. A number of years ago, we went to Arizona. Stayed at Williams Circle Pines KOA. They have an indoor pool and hot tub. From there we did a day trip to the Grand Canyon. Then we headed south to Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood. We visited Jerome. The kids would love the Gold King Mine and the Douglas Mansion. Tuzigoot is not far from the campground and the old Cavalry Fort at Camp Verde is neat.

RE: Help me plan my trip please! RI, DE and MD

Assateague State and National Park. National campground has a bunch of loops. No hookups but semi warm water showers and several loops generators are allowed. The thing we liked about that was the ranger programs were really good in the summer. And of course there's the beach and the horses. The state park has one loop with electric but that's tough to get into. You're close enough to Ocean City to drive in and go to the board walk.

RE: looking for info

Maryland has several state parks in that area. The 2 in that area are Assateague State Park and Pocomoke River. Assateague has both a state and national park. The state park has one loop with hookups. The National Park has no hookups but 2 loops allow generators. We stayed in both and prefer the National park because there is some grass and trees in the bayside loops.Plus, being over 62 I have the senior pass which allows free entry to the NP and half off camping fees.

RE: Seven points campground Raystown lake PA

I was there in September. Stayed in Point Camp. I actually got a site on the water about 6 weeks out. When I got there,I found out why. The site is a pull off and there isn't much room for the trailer. Length wise it was ok. I have a 26 ft TT. But the site was narrow.I couldn't put my slide all the way out. But there were steps that led down to the lake where there was a picknic table, fire ring and lamp post all right on the water. That site would probably work for a truck camper or pop up. That site number is P154.Senoia,Point Camp and Susquehannock have some sites on the water. The rest don't.Now most people say you can't get a site. But if you go in on a Sunday and leave on Thursday, you will find there are more openings. Weekends are where it gets booked up quickly.

RE: Towing challenges with flagstaff 25FKS

I have a Nissan Titan XD with a Cummins 5.0 diesel motor. We have a 26ft TT with w dry weight of 5900 lbs. The truck pulls that trailer no problem. I installed a 40 gallon auxillary tank in the bed. The stock tank is 26 so that gives me 66 gallons. I get between 10 and 12 mpg towing, 20 to 26 solo. So even at 10mpg I have a range of over 600 miles between fill ups. Plus with the aux tank,I can use the truck stops with the larger nozzles because the aux tank has a larger fill than the stock tank. As to the sway issue,I have found either trailers sway or they don't unless you really have something set up wrong like not enough tongue weight. The only trailer i ever had with a sway problem was the first one we had, a Shasta. After that I bought Sunlines until the went out of business and now we have a keystone Cougar. No sway issues at all.

RE: Hunting Island or Huntington Beach

Never been to Hunting Island, but we love Huntington Beach. It has open and wooded sites. It has FHU and water and electric. They have a great nature program with walks on the beach or sessions in the lodge. They have a small store and it's a short walk to the beach. The home of the Huntington's is neat to tour and next door is Brookgreen Gardens. We enjoyed eating at Drunken Jacks which is just up the road in Murrel's Inlet. The food is good and you can watch the wildlife in the bay.

RE: February trip south on the East Coast

Try staying in Huntington Beach State park. Some FHU the rest W&E, You can walk to the beach. They have a great nature lodge and have ranger talks in the lodge and outside. The home of the Huntington's can be toured for a small fee. Drunken Jacks in Murrell's Inlet is a good place to eat.

RE: Dump Station Observations

We usually don't have that problem as we come in on a Sunday and leave on Thursday avoiding the weekend crowd. When there is no one behind me, I take my time. But if there is even one person waiting,I try to get it done as fast as possible. Then pull forward and finish up washing my hands etc.But some people don't care about others.I have observed the same behavior at the fuel pumps.I remember pulling into a Flying J in Wyoming. There were 2 units at the RV lanes but no one was around. I waited 20 minutes and still no one came out so I then pulled over to one of the regular pumps and was able to fill up there. We do have a sewer clean out next to our trailer at home and use that if we camp local. But when you're on the road you don't have that option.

RE: Omaha to Mt Rushmore route through Nebraska?

WE did it in reverse from Mt Rushmore to North Platte. 385 south to Rt 2 to 97 to I-80. Roads were good. At that time there wasn't much in gas stations along the way but were were able to get gas around Alliance.

RE: Recomendation for campground near Memphis.

Natchez Trace State Park is also an option if you want to stop to the east of Memphis. This might let you avoid rush hour traffic. Check your mileage from Warrior's Path to Memphis---it's a LONG way across TN. That looks good. Thanks.
