RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Not stir crazy yet but I have only been out of the house once since last Sunday. I have been working from home and have enough supplies for a couple of weeks if needed. I was planning on taking the motorhome for a drive in the country this weekend just to get the fluids running and to put a hour on the generator. My owners manual says to run the generator at least an hour a month with at least 50% load. I usually turn on one of the AC units when we take it some where. I haven't driven it in over two months now since my weekend camping plans at the local COE park got canceled a few weeks ago. I am really not sure if I am "allowed" to drive around with this stay at home order that went into affect yesterday. Surely me driving the motorhome by myself out in the country would not be putting myself or anyone else at risk but I don't want to get into any trouble. I'm too old to get into trouble these days! I hope everyone is safe and getting along with their significant others while being confined to quarters! Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

For the most part, I have been working at home this week. I did work from the office on Monday and again for a few hours yesterday but will be home today. Even though they extended tax season, we are still extremely busy (I work for a CPA firm). The dogs have been happy to have me home and today my wife is working from home so they are playing and having a good time. I took some supplies and food over to my mom yesterday. It usually takes me about 30 minutes with traffic to get to her house. I made the round trip in 44 minutes. Very little traffic on the roads at around 7pm last night. It was really strange. Most restaurants are now closed in my area. A few places are still offering takeout. There is a little hole in the wall wing place down the road. I have been getting takeout there trying to give him the business. I am getting tired of wings but I plan on picking up some tomorrow to take to my father in law. I might take the motorhome out for a drive this weekend and also run the generator to keep things running. We had two trips planned in the next two months and both places have closed so it will be awhile before we get to take a trip on the motorhome. I hope everyone has a great day. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

My office is down to skeleton crew right now. I will be working from home most days (today included). We have a deep freeze and I have enough food to last a month or more if needed. We have plenty of toilet paper and if we run out, the motor home is only a few miles down the road and I have several packages of toiler paper there. I feel really bad for the local business owners. There is a small hole in the wall chicken wing place down the street. Only seats about 15-20 people or so. He has gone to take out only and I told him I would come by at least once a week and put in an order. Many of the restaurants won't recover from this. I am blessed that I have a job that is probably immune to this crisis (Public CPA firm) but many others are not. Hopefully this will pass sooner or later and things will get back to normal before people start getting cabin fever. Desperate people sometimes to desperate things when things get rough so I hope crime doesn't become a problem in the next few weeks. Everyone stay safe! Burch

RE: F-53 V-10 Oil Capacity

The owners manual for our 2018 Miramar (2017 F53 chassis) says 7 quarts. That puts the dipstick just under the top of the full shaded area. I haven't noticed any oil consumption but only have 11,000 miles on my motorhome and have only done 3 oil changes so far.

RE: Senior Citizens Speak Up

As of yesterday the COE had not shut down campgrounds. Truth be told there is no reason to do this... Sites are generally far enough apart to be "Socially distant" you can wave but you got to get out and walk some to shake hands. COE shutdown campgrounds in Florida, at least Ortona South. Here is an email I received yesterday. We're sending you this message because of your reservation, 0225468871-1, at ORTONA SOUTH for Fri, Apr 17, 2020 - Sun, Apr 19, 2020. A location closure has been issued for ORTONA SOUTH from Wed, Mar 18, 2020 - Thu, Apr 30, 2020 due to Public Safety Concerns . Since this location closure overlaps with the dates for your trip, we wanted to provide you with options for how you can proceed: Cancel your reservation and receive a full refund. You can review and cancel your reservation under the "My Account" section on Credit/debit card payments will be refunded to the card associated with your account, or you'll receive a refund check in the mail if you paid by cash or check (please allow up to 8 weeks). Hold your reservation (no action required) and see if the location reopens prior to your visit. If the location reopens before or during your reservation and you have not cancelled, you'll be able to take your trip. You will receive an email from ORTONA SOUTH indicating the location has reopened, and all standard change and cancellation policies will apply to your reservation. If the location remains closed at the start of your reservation, we will cancel your reservation and provide a full refund. Modify your reservation to any other available days. No modification fee will be charged. You can also change your reservation to any new date/s without being charged a modification fee. This includes changing the start date, adding days or removing days. The new reservation dates must be available and not impacted by the closure. RE: Is it time to trip

All the CEO parks in Florida are closed now. I had reservations for April 18th for Ortona South and I just received an email they would be closed through April 30th.

RE: Is it time to trip

All state parks in Florida are closed and Jetty Park campground in Cape Canaveral is closed until April 30th. You might have trouble finding a place to stay. I am assuming private RV parks will still be open.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

There is pollen in the air from all the trees and flowers that are blooming so maybe that is it. The pollen has been awful in Florida. We haven't had any rain in several weeks so its really dry and dusty from all the pollen. It's been killing my sinuses. Our firm is ramping up for most of our employees to work from home. It is really doing to stress our computer systems. I really hope this settles down in a few weeks as it is going to put a lot of small businesses out of business.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

You mentioned how the other Pups were acting since losing their Sister. This is my fear also as our Papillon Sandi has only knew life with her Big Sister and does not like to be separated for any reason. We will be keeping You, Your Wife and Pups in our prayers. Thank you for your prayers. I have two Papillons. My male Papillon Monty has been sulking for the past week or so. When I come home from work, he just goes into the front bedroom and lays around. He is finally coming around the last couple of days and being his old self. He even brought me a toy so we could play last night. Dogs must go through a mourning process as well. My two Papillons had been around Murphy there whole life. Burch

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

I got the motor home back from the Ford dealer yesterday. They had to replace the brake master cylinder at just over 11,000 miles. They said the tank was leaking at the seam. I guess the tank and cylinder are one piece as they replaced the whole unit. At least it failed while I still have a few months of warranty left. Didn't cost me anything.

Richard, I hope your surgery went well. Donna woke up this morning really sick. I am hoping it's just a cold.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

Only use the specified brake fluid if you need to top off. (see your owners manual or the reservoir on the MC) Chum lee I would think you would need some type of pump to fill the bin. The master cylinder is high up in the compartment and right under the dashboard. Barely enough room to take the cap off. I will report back once I get the motorhome back and talk to the service writer. He did tell me this was covered by the Ford warranty.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

Right and left side of vehicles are referenced like you are sitting in the driver's seat. That puts the master cylinder on the front left side. Richard If that is the case, yes it would be on the front left. I referenced the leak as being on the drivers side on my first post. Just curious if anyone has had this issue with the F53 before.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

The brake cylinder is on the front right. It's way up in the engine compartment. I don't see how you could even add fluid to it as there is really no room above it. Underneath the master cylinder looks like the power steering. Under that is the windshield washer fluid tank. The washer fluid tank had a film of oily/water solution on it after my last trip. The fluid got on part of the frame of the motorhome and the black paint is starting to bubble. I have been told that brake fluid will do this to paint.

F53 brake master cylinder failure

The last couple of trips I have noticed that I had oily water under the front drivers side of my 2018 Miramar motorhome. The only time I didn't see a small puddle was when I didn't use the AC on one trip. The motorhome is still under warranty (Ford) until June so I took it to a large Ford truck dealership that's nearby. I called today to get a status and the service rep said they were waiting on a part, some type of cylinder. I am assuming he was referring to the brake master cylinder as that is where I suspected the leak was coming from. I think the condensation from running the AC was washing off some of the fluid that was leaking from the cylinder and that was what I was seeing as the puddle under the drivers side. I only have a little over 11K miles on the motorhome. Is this type of failure common on the F53 chases? I haven't seen much mention of master cylinder failures on the F53 so I am hoping this is an isolated incident. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Thank you all for the kind words. I still have my moments where I have a "Murphy Moment". Had one last night. The other dogs are still acting strange. Monty has been very quiet lately. He just lays in the "dog room" we have. I believe they are mourning and missing Murphy as well. Thank God I have other dogs. It would be much harder without them. Murphy was always the first one at the front door waiting for me when I get home from work. Now Monty's sister Lola has taken that job. She was all wiggling and wagging her tail at the front door yesterday when I got home. It will be much easier to travel with Murphy gone. I feel guilty thinking/saying that but Murphy demanded a lot of attention and I never felt comfortable leaving her in the TT/Motorhome at night. She would do fine during that day (she would just sleep) but at night she would bark if we left. Now it will be possible to go out for an occasional dinner once and awhile and not have to be worrying about her barking. The other dogs are fine in the motorhome. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

My wife made a memorial for Murphy. She has had this statue in the yard for several years. She calls her "Saint Ann". We buried Murphy under Saint Ann and she got a plaque made. She also put a stone of a dog with angle wings on the spot. She received the dog from a co-worker when her dog "Petie" died years ago. I bought a couple of solar lights that light up the area at night.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

We lost Murphy a week ago today. This time last week, she was still alive. I went home around noon time to check on her and she was really panting and having trouble breathing. The last time I saw her on our dog room camera was a little after 1:30pm. She got up and got a drink of water and then laid down out of site of the camera. When Donna got home at 4:30, she was gone. I am really having a hard time with her death. Donna and I don't have any children and she was like a daughter to me. I know time will make things easier but right now I am really having a hard time.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

It was a very sad weekend at my house. We really miss Murphy. She was like a child to me. She was always very needy and always wanted attention. The other dogs are acting strange with her not being around. They have known Murphy for their entire lives and now she is gone. I know time heals but it's sure going to take a long time for me to get over her death.
