RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

I got the motor home back from the Ford dealer yesterday. They had to replace the brake master cylinder at just over 11,000 miles. They said the tank was leaking at the seam. I guess the tank and cylinder are one piece as they replaced the whole unit. At least it failed while I still have a few months of warranty left. Didn't cost me anything.

Richard, I hope your surgery went well. Donna woke up this morning really sick. I am hoping it's just a cold.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

Only use the specified brake fluid if you need to top off. (see your owners manual or the reservoir on the MC) Chum lee I would think you would need some type of pump to fill the bin. The master cylinder is high up in the compartment and right under the dashboard. Barely enough room to take the cap off. I will report back once I get the motorhome back and talk to the service writer. He did tell me this was covered by the Ford warranty.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

Right and left side of vehicles are referenced like you are sitting in the driver's seat. That puts the master cylinder on the front left side. Richard If that is the case, yes it would be on the front left. I referenced the leak as being on the drivers side on my first post. Just curious if anyone has had this issue with the F53 before.

RE: F53 brake master cylinder failure

The brake cylinder is on the front right. It's way up in the engine compartment. I don't see how you could even add fluid to it as there is really no room above it. Underneath the master cylinder looks like the power steering. Under that is the windshield washer fluid tank. The washer fluid tank had a film of oily/water solution on it after my last trip. The fluid got on part of the frame of the motorhome and the black paint is starting to bubble. I have been told that brake fluid will do this to paint.

F53 brake master cylinder failure

The last couple of trips I have noticed that I had oily water under the front drivers side of my 2018 Miramar motorhome. The only time I didn't see a small puddle was when I didn't use the AC on one trip. The motorhome is still under warranty (Ford) until June so I took it to a large Ford truck dealership that's nearby. I called today to get a status and the service rep said they were waiting on a part, some type of cylinder. I am assuming he was referring to the brake master cylinder as that is where I suspected the leak was coming from. I think the condensation from running the AC was washing off some of the fluid that was leaking from the cylinder and that was what I was seeing as the puddle under the drivers side. I only have a little over 11K miles on the motorhome. Is this type of failure common on the F53 chases? I haven't seen much mention of master cylinder failures on the F53 so I am hoping this is an isolated incident. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Thank you all for the kind words. I still have my moments where I have a "Murphy Moment". Had one last night. The other dogs are still acting strange. Monty has been very quiet lately. He just lays in the "dog room" we have. I believe they are mourning and missing Murphy as well. Thank God I have other dogs. It would be much harder without them. Murphy was always the first one at the front door waiting for me when I get home from work. Now Monty's sister Lola has taken that job. She was all wiggling and wagging her tail at the front door yesterday when I got home. It will be much easier to travel with Murphy gone. I feel guilty thinking/saying that but Murphy demanded a lot of attention and I never felt comfortable leaving her in the TT/Motorhome at night. She would do fine during that day (she would just sleep) but at night she would bark if we left. Now it will be possible to go out for an occasional dinner once and awhile and not have to be worrying about her barking. The other dogs are fine in the motorhome. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

My wife made a memorial for Murphy. She has had this statue in the yard for several years. She calls her "Saint Ann". We buried Murphy under Saint Ann and she got a plaque made. She also put a stone of a dog with angle wings on the spot. She received the dog from a co-worker when her dog "Petie" died years ago. I bought a couple of solar lights that light up the area at night. https://i.imgur.com/VO2dEy5l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/fqfoY56l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Sr346NXl.jpg

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

We lost Murphy a week ago today. This time last week, she was still alive. I went home around noon time to check on her and she was really panting and having trouble breathing. The last time I saw her on our dog room camera was a little after 1:30pm. She got up and got a drink of water and then laid down out of site of the camera. When Donna got home at 4:30, she was gone. I am really having a hard time with her death. Donna and I don't have any children and she was like a daughter to me. I know time will make things easier but right now I am really having a hard time.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

It was a very sad weekend at my house. We really miss Murphy. She was like a child to me. She was always very needy and always wanted attention. The other dogs are acting strange with her not being around. They have known Murphy for their entire lives and now she is gone. I know time heals but it's sure going to take a long time for me to get over her death.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy went to the rainbow bridge sometime this afternoon. She really took a turn for the worse last night. She was panting really hard. I came home today during lunch to check on her. She was panting and trying to catch her breath. She had that blank stare on her face and I knew she wanted to move on. I called Donna and told her she was in bad shape. Donna got home around 4:30 and Murphy had passed. I just got done burying her in a special spot in the back yard. Donna said Murphy did this for us so we didn't have that long drive to the vet to put her down. I am so sad I can hardly stand it but I know we gave her a great life. She lived for almost 17 years and gave us so much joy. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

What new meds is she on?? She had been taking Temaril-p and a water pill (can't remember the name). I believe the Temaril-p is a type of steroid. We were trying to ween her off the steroid and I believe she was down to a half a pill once or twice a day. My wife stopped giving it to her on Friday and by Sunday afternoon she was panting a lot and then went downhill fast on Monday. We mentioned this to the vet yesterday and he put her on Prednisolone which I believe is also a steriod? He had us give her a double dose last night and now it's one pill twice a day. He also gave her Enalapril which I believe is a type of heart med? I am probably not spelling any of this right but I think I'm close. He also did a chest x-ray yesterday and said he really didn't see any fluid in her lungs (the z-ray several weeks ago showed fluid) but he did see inflammation in her lungs. He said her heart sounded good but that didn't rule out heart disease. Her blood work came back good several weeks ago. If the steroids are helping her, what are the ramifications on keeping her on those? Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy is better this morning. She is still a little wobbly and she is still panting but she is definitely breathing better. It was dire yesterday morning as it seemed she couldn't catch her breath and she had that blank look on her face. She wouldn't even look at me and was pretty much giving up. She is a little more like her old self this morning. She was able to get up on her own and go outside and do her business. She came into the kitchen and wanted her breakfast (she didn't want to eat yesterday). After she ate, she went to one of her favorite spots which is a dog bed in front of the TV. https://i.imgur.com/vKDWhi2l.jpg As long as she gets around OK and is not in pain, I will do whatever it takes to keep her healthy. She will let me know when it is time. I think she was trying to tell me yesterday but after her new meds, she snapped out of it. I know her time is not long but I want to keep her around as long as I can. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Tomorrow will be a big day for Murphy. She seems slightly better tonight and she has new medicine. She is a fighter and she almost gave up this morning. We will see how she is tomorrow. Our vet likes Jack Russells and has always liked Murphy. He is doing everything he can. I was so afraid he was going to say there is nothing else he could do but he is determined to find out what is causing her lung problems. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I have to get Murphy to the vet this morning. She was panting a lot yesterday and this morning she is really having trouble breathing and doesn't want to eat. She has that blank stare when I look at her. I am afraid I am going to lose her today. Hopefully the vet can get some fluid out of her lungs. I'm not going to have her suffer. Donna got me Murphy as a wedding present and she has been my girl for 16 years. I really hope this isn't our last trip to vet but I have a bad feeling.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Murphy is doing better. The vet no longer thinks the esophagus is the problem with Murf's coughing. They did some more x-rays and she has fluid buildup in her lungs. They gave her some meds and she is doing much better. One of the meds is a diuretic so she has to pee a lot. Poor thing has had a couple of accidents in the house (which is extremely rare for her) but she can't help it. We are gone long hours during the day and she can't hold it that long. We have put down some pee pads in her room to take care of it. We will be taking a weekend trip in the motorhome this weekend so we can be more attentive to her needs. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good Morning FOOFs I have had a very bad week. I woke up Monday morning at 4am and felt like I had been run over by a truck. Had a fever of 103 and severe body aches. I couldn't stay out of the bathroom. Today is the first day I didn't have a fever so I went back to work but I still feel terrible. I haven't eaten much for 3 days as everything goes right through me. To make matters worse, Murphy's coughing has gotten much worse. She has a condition where her trachea is shrinking. The vet gave her some steroid pills when she was first diagnosed and they helped her. After two weeks of pills, she gradually started coughing more and more. She was really bad last week and Donna took her back to the vet. He gave her more steroid pills and some pills for her to take a nighttime. It seems that now she is much worse. This morning, she was having trouble breathing and was wheezing. It sounded like she was having a asthma attach. I am not able to miss anymore work as I have missed 3 days this week do to illness and Donna has a big client meeting at work today so neither of us can take Murphy to the vet. I called my mom and she is able to take her at 11:30 this morning. I am afraid I am losing Murphy. Other than the throat issue, she is in good shape for 16 years old. The vet says her lungs, heart and blood work are all in excellent shape. She just has trouble breathing. Please pray for Murphy. Burch
