RE: How much do you really need?

It depends on what you mean by "Dry Weight". Are you talking Brochure weights or actual scaled weight as it leaves the Factory?? Our current unit left the Factory 1000 Lbs more than the Brochure weight and on one of the RV Sales shows recently they had a question about the average cargo people carry, and the answer was 2000 Lbs, it really adds up quick. I think using the GVWR is still the best number to use, especially when you consider the like 60 per cent are overloaded.

RE: Real-life experience blocks to aid 6-point leveling system

I carry some blocks to put under the Jack Pads when needed to prevent an out of stroke error. Haven't pulled the wheels up on any blocks in years. When setting up for long term stays, I add blocks under each of the six jacks to minimum stroke, the shorter the jack is extended the less inside movement is felt.

RE: 2014 Keystone - Montana 3100RL -- Chev 2500HD Diesel

Just to give you an example, our Redwood left the Factory at a 1000 Lbs heavier than the listed Dry in the Brochure. I have no idea how they come up with the numbers they put in those Brochures, maybe a random number generator.

RE: CSA

Way to many Me, Me, Me people and those that say it's their right to spread Covid by not social distancing or wearing a mask. If you don't want to follow the rules, fine but stay with the rest of you're non-mask wearing friends, BUT stay away from those of us trying our best to not get sick with Covid.

RE: Changes to Snowbird lifestyle and Snowbird communitiess

We're leaving in a week and a half for Florida. Haven't been North for a winter in the past 10 years and don't plan to start this winter. Our Home Base here in Western NY (Rochester/Buffalo area) no longer has any central heat as we sold our wood furnace shortly after starting to winter in Florida. We have a large lot in Florida and won't be confined to our 43' Fifth Wheel, but we'll pretty much stay on our lot reading, gardening, and relaxing during the day.

RE: Half ton towing

You say 7000 Lbs dry, do you plan to always tow it totally empty? The typical load people put into a 5er is between 1000 & 2000 Lbs. What is the GVWR of it, 20 to 25% of that will be you're more realistic pin weight.

RE: Cold-ish weather camping

You might also consider upgrading to 40 Lb LP Tanks, would give you a little more run time. I've purchased them at Tractor Supply.

RE: AGM upgrade

If you change to Lithium, almost positive it will require a change to your Converter, because Lithium is the battery that requires special charging. I recently changed to AGMs and contacted Progressive about my converter and was told I was good to go.

RE: used price

Local Dealer just had a small Show/Open House and with nothing better to do, we went. The Best Looking unit they had was a 2008 Newmar Mountain Aire Fifth Wheel, simply beautiful inside and out, better than anything new they had on their lot.

RE: Is it a good time to sell?

You might want to try FaceBook Market Place.

RE: What discount to expect on special-ordered truck?

It's all a Numbers Game, % off MSRP, more for your trade than it's actually worth. The bottom line: If it a deal you can live with. Use internet sources such as Edmunds and work up a Dealer cost, then the MRF's site and work up what the list would be, figure out what you need for your trade and work the numbers to get a fair value. If you go into a Dealer and say I want that Truck, you're at their mercy. Do your research first.

RE: 75 Speed Limit - How Fast

To bad that same person can't ride along with them to help them drive.

RE: do you really need a battery?

Common sense should dictate that you have a battery and break-away switch. Would you want your unit if it broke away head off into oncoming traffic and possibly kill someone, or to lockup the brakes and not travel far?? We just recently purchased a lower priced enclosed utility trailer to use for storage and it came with a small Dry Cell Battery to activate the brakes in the event of a disconnect.

RE: 75 Speed Limit - How Fast

I would agree about a slow moving Car, BUT we have an 8' wide 13' tall Wall, if thay can't see that well ahead of time, they better get their eyes examined. My best mileage is between 61 - 63, but my xmission won't go into 6th gear in tow/haul mode until above 63, so my cruise is set at 65. Have approx 100K towing at that speed and haven't caused an accident and I get where I'm going.

RE: Tow/haul mode

If the TV is anything newer the computer should protect the motor from you. So no it shouldn't down shift again unless you have a 10K redline. Sounds like you need more TV or less Trailer and to slow down before going down long grades.

RE: 1978 Chevy Itasca for $4800

Make a counter offer, tell the owner for a few hundred you'll get off his hands and out of his driveway. It could be a great winter project if you have a space to put it inside to work on it.

RE: 75 Speed Limit - How Fast

Even tho we're not in any hurry traveling, try going 1500 miles on secondary roads through every little town and village with 25 MPH speed limits and multiple stop lights. Then there's the areas out in the Farm Lands where the speed limit is still only 40 or 45, you can never get the Xmission close to overdrive. I run 65 because any slower in Tow/Haul mode my TV won't shift up to 6th and much faster and I can watch the Fuel Guage go down.

RE: First timer with 5th wheel hitch question

You don't list the year of your TV, but for my '11 3500 I purchased the rail mounting brackets from Reese that bolted directly to the Frame, only holes that were required were for the attachment of the Rails to the brackets. I would question someone that said they had their own way of mounting.

RE: Granddesign 31MB

Don't forget that Grand Design is now under Winnebago and lots or report of poor service now.

RE: Furrion A/C ?

Just from following a few RV Forums, seems like there are lots of problems with Furrion products. Makes me glad we don't have any.
