RE: Axle Ratio, new truck

Here's the 1st gear ratio for GMs 6 speed Allison and the new 10 speed: New 10 speed 4.540 : 1 Old 6 speed 3.094 : 1 So with the lower first gear the 10 speed will give you the same overall pulling power with the taller differential gears.

RE: Fifth Wheels with an onaboard Onan

We started with a pair of Hondas, but for just a few hours in the evening I had to drag them out set them up and chain them so they could walk away, then after use had to wait for them to cool down before re-storing. They worked, but a PITA. On board, push the button and have power, when down just push the button again, don't even have to go outside. But will admit that good for long term usage.

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

We can self isolate in warm climate just as easily as in cold, so we haven't changed any of our plans.

RE: Extended warranty

Some you're not given a choice, like Auto, Home, even health now or pay the Gov

RE: Front Bath Owners

Yep, plenty of room, double vanities, stacked washer & dryer, large closet for towels, toilet paper, and paper towels. Also hold the Kitties litter boxes.

RE: winter vs battery

Find the info on your Converter/Charger, some units have Smart Chargers that do a good job of maintaining the Battery/ies without over charging them. Or you could just turn off the breaker for the converter/charger.

RE: Fifth Wheels with an onaboard Onan

I believe an Onan is option in the Keystone Montana, I know it's available in Redwoods as we have one. They are becoming an option in more and more Fifthwheels.

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

We're not changing any of our plans. We're just being careful and wear a mask when in public, keep our distance, and use hand sanitizer upon returning.

RE: Dutchman Grand Junction vs DRV Mobile Suitea

Ditto DRV especially since you're looking at model years well before they were bought out by Thor/Heartland.

RE: I need new Tires

Tire was sent to GY and received a check for a replacement.

RE: I need new Tires

Not arguing that, the post was talking about Endurance which doesn't come in 17.5" size. Yes I was running GY G114s until one exploded, approx 4 1/2 years old. Plan was to replace prior to the 5 year mark, but didn't make it.

RE: I need new Tires

They appear to be a Great Tire for mid-weight units, but they offer nothing for heavier unit and nothing in the 17.5 size.

RE: Best Built 5er?

If you get a New Horizon unit, you better get a Sport Chassis or Semi Tractor to haul it as they are HEAVY.

RE: Residential W/D?

What you're looking for are Apartment size units, typically only about 24" wide. They're out there, but many end up switching to the Splendide units.

RE: 5th wheel adapter for goose neck

I think if you research a little deeper, you will find that a lot more states than just Texas require chains. It's considered a "Ball Hitch" and a majority of states require chains with ball hitches.

RE: WINEGARD TravLer

The SWM 3 requires one coax and one control cable to operate the disk mech. I would pull that plate and see what's there. Redwood installed the control cable and two coaxes, one for living room and one for bedroom from the Factory.

RE: X-chocks and 6 point levelers

You can use X-Chocks with Auto Leveling, BUT you have to re-tighten after leveled then REMEMBER to remove them before retracting the Jacks, if you don't you'll have a HARD time getting them out. Don't ask how I know.

Lippert has approved the Reese Goose Box for use with their Frames.

RE: EGR Deletes

Actually in 2005 there wasn't very much extra junk on the engine. My 2005 Duramax didn't have a DPF and certainly didn't use DEF, so probably the only thing it did have was the EGR.

RE: Fuel mileage 5th wheel vs travel trailer

I pulled a 24' TT, a 30' TT, and a 35' Fifthwheel all with the same truck, a 2005 Chevy Extended Cab Dually with the Duramax and got almost the same mileage with all three, at least not enough difference that you could really tell.
