RE: Ramona CA to Needles CA

When I did this route I preferred heading out to the 15 and then out to the 40. Yes, it is longer. Not sure when you are going, but it's obviously hot too. I'd leave at 4am. I'm not in a hurry first day out. I went the inland way once. Too much two lane with semis. 15 to 40 has the one significant grade up to Victorville. I try to hit that by 6am. Anytime we went in summer I'd hit the road as early as I could to minimize the heat and traffic.

RE: Gilette, WY to Idaho Falls

Driving in and around SLC. I would be sure to plan on driving through that area in the early am before rush or after 8pm. Traffic is a challenge. I love the views, love the area, HATE the traffic and bone jarring roads. Especially in an RV.

RE: New RV Park in Post Falls ID

I think you had trouble passing math too...I get less than $50 a night without electric? 94 bucks a nite? Think I'll pass

RE: Anyone towing an older Jeep YJ?

Same as some of these fellas. 93 YJ auto tranny. Easy, no issues. I'd go three hours and stop anyway and many times I'd start the jeep at idle for batteries. I had stock YJ front bumper and had smitty built drop down tow bar. cheap and was fine.

RE: Yosemite National Park campgrounds

Those of you who have spring reservations may want to bring rafts...for the campgrounds. When they get a ton of snow, spring camping is subject to flooding.

Jeep Wrangler odometer

In the old days, my YJ would tow easily behind the rv. Automatic tranny, all worked great. As I recall, the odometer did not roll when towed like this. Is it the same with later model wranglers?

I-10 east from Inland Empire:refresh my memory

Challenging weather this coming weekend in SoCal. Need to get to Phoenix friday night from San Diego. Usually I'd go out the 8 and up from Gila Bend. But snow level is pretty low and forecast is hit and miss. I'd rather avoid snow possibilities entirely. Is the 10 a better option? Trying to recall the elevations. Thoughts? TIA

RE: Base Plate question on Jeep Wrangler

Thank you all. Sorry again I wasn't crystal clear. But I think I'm getting the gist. To clarify...I don't have the jeep yet but while shopping I was trying to decide if I had to go straight OEM. That answer appears to be "depends on which after market it has." And yes, I would call the said manufacturers direct when I have a specific bumper to ask about. In the pic in my sig, the good ol days, I had a fixed structure type Smitty tow bar that attached to the jeep bumper. When we unhooked for short periods of time just tilt that thing up. But lining that ol fashion bad boy up, alone, in the dark, or the rain, was a challenge. But the simplicity was grand. Thanks again all

RE: Base Plate question on Jeep Wrangler

Sorry. Appreciate your effort. OEM is factory original equipment. I see that OEM front bumpers are fine with a base plate like Blue Ox. Do Blue Ox (or similar) work with after market bumpers? These are typically shaped differently (mostly bigger) then the factory bumper. So, does anyone flat towing a wrangler have an after market bumper and what base plate system did you use?

RE: Base Plate question on Jeep Wrangler

Yes, thanks. I am confident in the stock or OEM, wondering about after market...or is that a given, OEM ONLY?

Base Plate question on Jeep Wrangler

Looking at another Jeep for 4-down towing. Many of the wranglers I am looking at have enhanced front bumpers, some with winches. What's the general guidance for front bumpers if I was to tow using a Blue Ox...or something similar. after market ok, or OEM only? Hope this makes sense. TIA

RE: lighter weight four down toad?

I towed my Wrangler and likely will again. BUT, I have since learned you can two a Scion xA manual tranny and the darn thing weighs almost nothing. I was going to dump it when I get the next RV but now I may try to find a bracket for it instead. I know automatic xAs had issues, but this one is bullet proof/reliable.
