RE: How to safely operate a B & W Patriot 16k 5th wheel hitch

We have the B&W companion. I love everything about but having to remove and installing. It's darn heavy. But that comes with the design. I wouldn't have it any other way.

RE: fifth wheel gas stops

Some good advise here. I also will calculate where I think I'll need to stop and then your google maps to view the stations in that area. We have two Loves within an hour of our area. One has a great setup for gas trucks as the pump islands are parallel to the building. The other is the complete opposite as the pump island is perpendicular to building and not much room to swing around the building once you did fill up.

RE: Honda EU220i Generator Availability

I have that generator. Have had it for a couple of years now. Last fall we got a letter from Honda telling us to take to a dealer so they could replace the fuel fitting to fix a potential leak. Dealer fixed it quickly. They said they replaced the fuel shutoff valve.

RE: Gooseneck or 5th wheel

Put one of the underbed rail with turn over gooseball so you have both. Another option is just a turnover ball gooseneck & a B& W Companion that slips into the gooseneck ball shaft. This is what we have. Our used truck already had the under the bed. B&W gooseneck mount. I found a used Companion on craigslist to use with. It's solid as a rock. Very well built. The only downside is it is very heavy when removing. But pull two pins and the head comes off the frame and then it's much easier to remove. Not a deal breaker for us as we tend to leave it in all summer unless I need to bed for hauling.

RE: 100K miles - what maintenance?

To the OP, I have an 05 with 199700 on it. Most items listed have been checked or replaced including alternator that was still working. On a short weekend trip 5 months ago I had what I thought was smoke coming from under the hood. Turned out to be high pressure diesel spraying out from #4 injector fuel supply line. Drove it another 100 miles home. This seems to be a common problem on 05 common rail series. Most auto supplies stock that line . I now carry a spare. Check your injector line fittings with a wrench. They are easy to get to. Sorry for the long post. Hmm, I have an 2005 with 207k miles. I'd better check that line too. thanks for the heads up.

RE: ? Have you purchased from Walnut Ridge or Modern Trailer Rv

We bought our current fifth wheel from Walnut Ridge. They let us look around on our own for hours as we crawled in and out of most of their used ones. Once we found a couple we liked we walked back in and got a salesman. The transaction went well. They did a good job of cleaning the camper before we picked it up and did a nice walk thru. The only issue we had was they said they would put a new battery in it and fill up the propane tanks. They put in a used battery and didn't fill the propane tanks. My mistake for not checking.

RE: My Folding Porch

That's a nice setup. We're wanting to do something similar but on a smaller scale this spring. The little bumper and step we have now can be challenging to step out onto on a wet morning.

RE: Upcoming 2021 Arctic Fox Changes

We went to the Seattle RV show. We upgraded our 1150 to a newer one but because of Northwoods production schedule our new camper will not come until July when it will be a 2021 model. Several of the changes: Light Gray color with black trim like the current Legacy models. You can see a 990 here: Legacy AF990 They are getting rid of (even on current AF's) the sliding window facing the truck rear window and replacing it with a solid window. Supposedly for leaks but we are going to miss that window since you could leave it open at all times when you were set up. The ladder will be the bigger "tube" model, also seen in the current Legacy. The Legacy models (they are also doing a Legacy 1150 run around March) features the new frameless windows but we were assured that would not be a standard feature of the 2021 models. Howdy Brholt, What made you decide to get a new camper ? Are you getting the same model ? We've been looking at the 1150 as we like the ability to get a sofa, the large tanks and being able to access the inside with the slide in. (for quick bathroom and snack breaks)

RE: Introduction post

Thank you all for the warm welcome, I got a few chuckles reading them all. 1st off I do have thick skin and can take hazing, razing, or being a newbie rather well after 22 years in the Army. The wife and I been married almost 27 yrs and I havent drove her away yet but we do plan on experienting before we plop down any serious $$$. Thank you guys for the advice about waiting on any MOD's until after we purchase something. Definately looking at Larger hardside 1 or 2 slides. We went to the Iniana RV show and the Louisville Boat and RV show and didnt see one TC period. The closest dealer to us is lil over 2 hours away in Hammersville, OH (Mike Jones RV). We plan on making a drive over to that dealership so we can look at what they have, try to get a feel for the size and all. Thank again for the welcome Mote: We are near Bloomington IN Hey, we're about an hour East of you. We went over to Mike Jones RV last summer. They have a pretty good selection of new truck campers. It's well worth the drive to get a feel for what you'll want.

RE: Interior Design – Painting

We've repainted all of our inside walls except for the bathroom. Just recently when we replaced the dinette with a sofa my wife repainted the sofa and kitchen areas. We just used leftover interior house paint we had sitting around. Before: After:

RE: 5.9 Cummins Diesel Towing capacity

it is a 2001 5.9 diesel Dually not 4x4 I had the tranny rebuilt with very heavy duty inards. He said better than the original and an extra cooler Also has been chipped, I never have had the the radiator flushed or the fluids changed So I was pulling a 12000+ 5vr and it did find on the level but climbing a steep pass like a 2 lane and it got real hot so I pulled over 3 times to let it cool. If it hadn;t heated up I could have pulled over that pass and others without any trouble. Howdy Billy, I have a 1996 2wd 2500. When pulling on steep grades I use the overdrive lockout button so the transmission will lock into third gear and lock the torque converter. This keeps the transmission and engine a lot cooler when pulling hard on steep grades. Also, you might check to be sure the fan clutch is working as it should and engaging the fan.
