RE: Longer closure gathering momentum...

"You're more likely to die from it here than there. 2 to 1. Per capita, of course. Just open the **** border." I think you have that backwards, if you think that you are more likely to die from Covid in Canada than in the US! Their per capita deaths per 1m is 397 and Canada is 229! Lower is good!

RE: Canada border crossing

Just heard on our news that the border closure will be extended to at least June 21.

RE: Should we be going?

I see that in Spain this morning they are saying no more that ONE person at a time in any car, along with other restrictions. Wow!

RE: Spring flowers popping up today

Meanwhile up here in the Great White North, our crocuses are just about done, Daffs are out and the tulips are almost out. Cherry Blossom is ankle deep in some places and we may have to mow out lawn for the second time this year!

RE: Has anyone been to S. Africa?

We haven't but Wife's brother & partner went about 5-6 years ago and loved it. They would have gone first class, as they always do, and had no problems, but am not sure if they'd go again because of the deteriorating safety factor? I'll ask him next time I see him, as I think he knows someone there.

RE: Just a thought tonight

As a Canadian, I am often confused with what is going on SOB. Questions pop up from time to time on how your system works, and often to research it online doesn't always work. It's a pity that general NON biased discussions could not take place, in which there is no indication on which 'side of the fence; the writer is on. I've tried these in the past, but soon someone will join in and make their opinion known, and the thread is closed. Other times, and very disappointingly, the thread is closed right away, with 'no politics' allowed.

RE: Summer 2020 road trip - suggestions

Don't forget to have the correct documentation to cross to the Canadian side. There is a lot more to do on that side and the view of the Falls is much better. Nearly every photo you see of the Falls has been taken from the Canadian side.

RE: My daily trip to Walmart

I wouldn't worry about showing my receipt, unless of course I nicked something now and again! In fact, I would prefer that they all checked, as it would keep the pilfering down, and give the stores more of a chance to keep the prices down.

RE: WA 20 or US 2 across the Cascades summer 2020?

If you do 20, make sure you take a look at the viewpoint by the Liberty Bell Mountain.

RE: Remembrance Day

We just came back from the service at our local village cenotaph. Short military parade, Oh Canada, Flanders Fields poem, WW2 flypast, Last Post, a full two minutes silence, the lament, The Rouse? Laying of about twenty wreaths, God Save the Queen. As invited, most left their poppies an the cenotaph. Very moving.

RE: A Very Quiet Halloween

We had 150 kids, down from 171 last year, and 225 the year before. Living in 'Tropical Canada' we had no weather problems, it was quite warm and dry. Unlike previous years though, we had no one after 8PM even though we left the lights on as we had treats left over.

RE: Full Moon on Friday the 13th an UFOs woo woo woo

I have been interested in Astronomy for many years. In all that time I have had TWO sightings of objects that I just can't explain. This despite also being interested in aircraft which has explained many sightings over the years. The first sighting in 1960 just COULD have been birds, but I have never seen anything like it since. The second sighting, in 1974, though, defies all explanations. Even with 2019 technology, I can't come up with how this could have happened.

RE: A couple of hot cars on main street late today !

I think the Ford GT shown here is the second new version built in Canada. I think it has a V6, unlike the first series and the original British GT40 both of which had V8s , but is more powerful than either of them.

RE: Change the date of Halloween...?

I don't think it was for an extra hour of Trick or Treat, but so it's more daylight while the Trick-or-Treaters are out and about. Makes them a little more visible. That was the reason given around here as well!

Enough of this fun. Now for those who know Canada? I want to cross the border on 4th of July weekend, that comes on Thursday. Would Saturday be a low traffic day? Do we expect any extra traffic on the 4th in Canada at all? In Canada, July 4th is just the day between the 3rd and the 5th! I suppose it could be a little busier with a few Americans crossing the border to eat poutine and drink real beer. However wouldn't most be wanting to stay at home and spend the day saluting the flag and eating hot dogs?

RE: RCMP seek witnesses - Liard Hot Springs death investigation

Latest news is that has gone from three dead and two missing to three dead and two suspects on the run. The two missing teens from Port Alberni , where we used to live, are now suspects in maybe all three deaths!

RE: Hottest and most humid morning of the Summer !

Yesterday near Toronto, where our daughter lives, the combined heat and humidity was 47C or 117F . On Friday at a nearby hotel, there was a car at the front door with a Thule ski rack on the roof. Inside at the front desk, a couple was asking directions to the nearest ski hill. The vehicle had plates from a nearby state! I thought this was just an urban myth!
