RE: New 2020 Rockwood Premier 2716g, ready for camping

Hi Mike. Glad it’s working out great for you. Biggest benefit I see going back to pups is the boondocking and off road appeals. My 12 foot box with front trunk is 20 feet long closed. That’s long to k turn on a forest road but doable.

RE: 2018 flagstaff superlite has condensation on walls

Thanks for all the information on condensation in camper, will invest in dehumidifer that can run on generator Is this your first time owning a camper? How cold is the area you are in? In the mid-atlantic we get serious condensation in the spring and fall.

RE: 2017 GMC SIlverado Crew Cab Short Box

I didn’t have my phone on me to take a picture. The biggest menace was a 7500 pound trailer on a 36” extension bar. I wanted to get out to see how well the 883 was strapped down.

2017 GMC SIlverado Crew Cab Short Box

Really got to see the potentials of a 2017 Sierra/Silverado 1500 Short Bed 5.5 ft bed. It had kayak racks loaded, Harley Davidson 883 in bed with rear wheel on tailgate. It was towing a 30 foot Jayco white hawk RLS with 2 bike rack strapped to rear bumper rack. WDH Reese straightline hitch was attached to 36 inch hitch extension to clear the tailgate down. My mind is made up on the half ton truck do all!

RE: Front floor water damage need to remove heater-seats

I’d scrap it. The job you are doing involves removing entire floor, adding aluminum supports to frame, sandwiching new foam between two layers of luan. Supporting side walls, recreating front wall and putting entire project back together. Good luck!

RE: Awning?

The previous owner repaired the fabric but did not replace the hardware that was damaged. The parts that are missing would cost more to replace than buying a new one. So no repairing this one. Jayco style awning poles and hardware can be replaced by any poles and rigging you can find at hardware stores. My rain/kids episode bent the main header bar. I looked around property and found a heavier gauge bar. Drilled 3 holes and then boom had a new hardware setup.

RE: Gizmos for Hybrid Ends

Yes pugz are worth the investment. Summer good, winter great, spring/fall no issues with condensation.

RE: Winterizing Question: Is My HWT Check Valve Leaking?

I put a new bypass on the water heater and it failed. Same setup with valve on cold and only check valve on hot. Wasted $18 and 2 gallons of antifreeze. Going to just buy more antifreeze and let it rip through city water inlet and pressurize the hot out to the shower. Via sump pump in a tub pressure I have a dedicated sump pump for winterizing campers and boat motors.

RE: Awning?

I used my sailcloth sticher to repair my awning. First repair two years ago from epic snowfall that slid off the steel roof of barn. Next was lazy camping single dad and three kids. Exhausted from work and left it out during heavy rain. Down it went and ripped from bag and bead rubber. $350 saved twice already.

RE: Looking to buy a used HTT, first camper, family of 4. Rec?

Half ton burb That’s a multi generation dilemma. Might as well slap a plow on the f150 and get into the firewood delivery business?? I didn’t get the joke but it sounds like a pretty good one. That F150 eco boost pulls better than anything I’ve ever seen Nobody cares about how “good” it pulls. It’s how “good” it stops. FYI trailer brakes depend on user to properly plug in the receptical.

What model suburban did you use? I saw some reference of 9000 pound dry. That better be an 8.1 burb from 01-06.

RE: Looking to buy a used HTT, first camper, family of 4. Rec?

Interesting that that is required. My dad told me the place he bought his from new showed him how to change the battery wire to get power from his vehicle and not have to use a house battery. Well if his trailer had electric brakes, what he did was illegal. How could the trailer brakes work if it detached from his tow vehicle? Obviously the brakes cant work then. Honestly it never occured to me that those brakes were required to, or even COULD work if it came off the car. I just figured thats what the safety chains are for, (2) for redundancy and that was that. It NEVER in my life occured to me that those brakes could or should work if it came off the car. I bet he has no idea and will not believe me when I tell him. His trailer deff has brakes, it weighs 9000 dry. I'll go by costco, that guy talked ridiculous. Very unusual for costco to behave as such. Yep, there is an extra safety cable that you are suppose to hook up to the truck along with the chains. If it comes unhooked so only the chains are holding it, it pulls the cable and activates the trailer brakes. I believe that is how it is suppose to work. I've been lucky enough to never have to test it! :) Attach the brake cable to frame of truck not the hitch. It designed to work if entire hitch chains and all rip off the truck. That can happen due to rust and there has not been a Tb or envoy for ten years lol.

RE: Looking to buy a used HTT, first camper, family of 4. Rec?

Funny thing is we can buy trailblazers at auction as low as $1500. We sold a 30 foot zeppelin ultralight to a guy with a 2004 Tb. Made 3k flipping the **** trailer. He camped once and immediately bought a f250 with 180k on odo 5.4 liter. I warned him like I warned you. Experiences trump naysayers and minivan owners. Thanks for the warnings. I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m just saying I’m gonna find out. My trailblazer has the factory transmission cooler. And if it tears up, I won’t be putting a trans or motor in it, the whole vehicle is not worth that. Yes it needs a trans cooler. The interior one is inadequate. I’m 8 years removed from Tb on steroids 5.3 V8. Had both coolers yet still cooked the motor and trans on hills. 15 mph floored 2nd gear on 15% grades. North eastern PA mountains. Where last 10 miles you need a freaking diesel. I also cooked 6.0 suburban and 4l80 trans on these mole hills.

RE: Looking at a Rockwood 2280

Looks great. Have fun and take care of it. I just got a bunch a green mold originating in front trunk collasable garbage can and open container of water. Perfect combo. Made its way into pup and attachéd to cabinets not the tents or bedding. Weird!

Make sure tb has aftermarket trans cooler. If you screw up tb 4l60e it’s a $3500 repair. Brake controller installed. Tire upgrade from p rated to lt E rated. We were at gross combined weight with one baby at time. Truck carried 450lbs hitch weight, stroller, cooler, 100lb lab, car seat, and 3500 pound trailer. Climbed 15% grade 3 mile hill to housing development. Backed pup up to garage with a hot 5.3 v8. Trans slipping as it backed up sloped driveway. You will have 650lb hitch, 100 pound wdh and be left with 550lbs to fill the seats and rear cargo before exceeding several ratings.

My hybrid was 7ft 6 wide vs 23b 8ft wide. Those six inches more sticking out of a narrow trailblazer.

RE: Looking to buy a used HTT, first camper, family of 4. Rec?

You need popup gizmo bunk end covers on pups and hybrids to effectively run the ac. If not freeze up of coils. I think in 08 most still had manual awnings. You can’t even sit in a bunk end or nap in one during daytime unless gizmos are on top. I had them on both of my pups and ultra rare hybrid bunkhouse I had. You will have trouble towing with a Trailblazer. I had a 2008 tb with 5.3 V8 300 hp. It could not do 60 downhill on an interstate towing the htt empty. One tow from dealer and bought a truck. I am definitely going to buy gizmo covers. This 08 has an electric awning. I'm hoping it can be adjusted up a little higher, or put on an angle somehow. I know people keep telling me I'll struggle with the trailblazer. I'm not denying it, I just refuse to buy another vehicle yet. Maybe in a couple weeks after I've lived that, I'll come back here and post "recommendations for tow vehicle". LOL I'm man enough to admit when I was wrong, but I'm stubborn enough to verify I'm wrong before admitting it. haha. No offense intended. What gear were you pulling in? I was in third The truck could not go into 4th. 7 percent grade. Downhill. 3.42 gear ratio. It was 100 percent attributed to frontal air limits. My tb towed 3500 pound pup with no problems. Towed empty hybrid at 3400 pounds.
