RE: More campers than parks

this thread makes me very scared of what is ahead for my husband and I. we are putting our home up for sale in the spring and plan to buy a DP and live full time for 6 months or longer before relocating from MI to TN. Since we will not be able to start this adventure before we sell our house we have no idea on when it will start so trying to book far in advance is going to be a big problem. Our hope is to be on the road by August and spend time first in CO then move on to UT. I hope we are not homeless with a MH and no where to park itWhy are you leaving MI?

RE: Last Post, DW has died

My wife died 3 weeks ago. We have been RV'ing for about 25 years. She was in bad shape from MS but the RV was the only way I could get her out and about. She absolutely enjoyed that I could take her away from the house and do things with her. I miss her very much. I'm still coming to the RV forums because I'm not sure if I will keep RVing or not. Tough decision but once you have traveled in a class A, it's hard to go back to traveling like everyone else. We sold our RV before she died because it was a handicap rigged unit and I knew she couldn't use it anymore. I may take the proceeds and buy another smaller unit.

RE: Novice looking for an upgrade to Class C

I see many of the comments go toward Chevy vs Ford on the C. Is there any real good reason other than the Ford vs Chevy?

RE: F53 rear diff service

most diffs dont have a drain hole, the fill on most is on the back of the diff cover, some are also on the side of the diff case.. Correct. The rear cover will need to be removed to drain the fluid. You would need some RTV silicone to reseal the cover.Gee, my 2006 has a drain plug, perhaps they got cheap with the 2012 or maybe some folks don't know what they are talking about.

Why not an exterior dog kennel.

RE: RV sales are slipping

I look around as I travel and I think; Jeezee we have to be reaching a saturation point here pretty soon. There are RV's of every discription parked and stored everywhere. I'm talking about the already sold units parked in storage yards, house yards, fields, campgrounds, RV parks, driveways, and on the streets. There is just a huge amount of them out there. Then there are all the "beyond usable condition" units left on the side of back roads and in fields everywhere. Perhaps it is time the industry slowed a little. I make note of this as well. Brand new trucks and campers in most campsites. tons of campers clogging up the freeway on the weekends. I also live in an area with alot of lakes. Theres seems to be a saturation of $180k+ wakeboard/surf boats. Everyone has a brand new pontoon ect.... seems too good to be true!Saw a lot of the same right before the last big bust. ATV sales places all around town, toys for everyone, then poof.

RE: Camp sites in MIchigan UP

The municipal park at Grand Marais is (was?) pretty nice, and good location right on Lake Superior. You have Munising to the west with its waterfalls and boat tour of the rock cliffs, Tahquamenon SP and the Soo Locks to the east, and Seney wildlife refuge to the south. Also W of Manistique you have the Big Spring at Palms Book SP and the historic buildings at Fayette SP. Buy an annual vehicle pass for the state parks and spend a few days. On your way, Mackinaw City and Mackinac Island are interesting. I was just at Wilderness SP a few days ago and it was a very pleasant CG with a rather new bath house, nice beach, and good pavement for bike riding.Grand Marais. No reservations. Some pretty irate people showing up and finding after driving the 25 mile driveway nothing available. Not sure why they don't have a reservation system.

RE: F53 Chassis Lean

Spring shop may add a extra leaf spring I don't think a good shop would add any kind of spacer'It is a very common fix. The shop that put in my spacers to fix a lean said they do it all the time. Reputable large truck place. Had mine done several years ago, very pleased to this date. No need to add a spring.

RE: F-53 Axle vent

I can only figure that the suggested the torque wrench is for properly tightening the lug nuts? One is not of much use to set up the wheel bearings. It is if you are following the Ford service book, unless of course you have memorized their specs.

Any chance on that parts list? Thanks.

RE: UPDATE - F53 external fuel pump install FINISHED

Reviews on Amazon are not very good. Check out Walbro inline fuel pumps Also, be careful. If your chassis has "returnless" fuel, the fuel pump control module will cause the pump to run hot.which of those Walbro's is for the F-53? Edit: Nevermind. I found the cross-reference chart.

RE: UPDATE - F53 external fuel pump install FINISHED

My fuel pump went out and I used an ATV lift to bring down and raise the new tank. What happened is when I went to undo the bolts to remove the pump, every one of them snapped off which mandated a new tank. The guy I bought the tank from said that bolts snapping off is the single biggest problem with replacing the in tank pumps. You may have dodged an expensive bullet by not pulling the tank.Ford tech warned me a while ago about the bolts said to make sure and pre-soak and turn forward/backward in small amounts.

RE: UPDATE - F53 external fuel pump install FINISHED

Mine was designed so the back jacks were in the way of one of the straps. That sucked. My HWH jacks are like that. I can't even see how they tightened some of the nuts. Any tips on how you handled this?

RE: UPDATE - F53 external fuel pump install FINISHED

I'm a little lost as to why I'd want an external fuel pump. Is it a replacement so you don't have to drop the fuel tank? I had to drop mine. Not because of the pump but due to the generator fuel line cracking. It was a job to say the least. I thought about sticking in a new pump while it was out but decided if it ain't broke, don't fix it.Interesting how people think. I plan on purposely dropping my tank and replacing my perfectly good pump (and generator line) this fall. Why? I would rather do it on my terms than someone else's. Nothing wrong with your philosophy. To each their own.

RE: DTV nightmare.. Timmac around?

What is the nature of 'no access'? Does the receiver stop all activity when it can't find swm? When you hit the "list" button, nothing happens. No list of movies shows up. You go to recording history and watch a recording, but not through "all recording."

RE: DTV nightmare.. Timmac around?

Pirate- my recordings play just fine sans antenna. One thing weird, if you go into the aiming screens and end up in the download advanced guide, there's no way out of it save a reboot. And to that's 7 minutes of your life you'll never get back.Just tested again. Lower antenna, turn off receiver. Turn receiver back on, no access to all recordings. RE: DTV nightmare.. Timmac around?

You should be able to view your recording sans antenna, after rebooting from no power. No, that does not work now. Something has changed. Now about continuous inverter 120V for the receiver. Will the HR44 still allow viewing recorded shows after the RV is down with the dish down? ie It's detected no sat but recordings OK. Or recordings with a overlayed error?I lowered my antenna without rebooting or powering down HR44. I was able to access my recordings by hitting list as normal. I did not test it beyond that.
