RE: F150 Lightening

I like the F150 lightning but I think the Cybertruck has better lockable storage. That stand on powered box cover is cool on the Cybertruck. And I think the in box (below box storage) of the Cybertruck is kinda cool. The Fords frunk is huge though. Gotta love that.

RE: The Unicorn has almost landed!!

Well it's in! Payload is as expected. With only a few hundred miles on it, I can say it has exceeded my expectations. Maybe that is on account of reading way too many forums on all the little obscure issues some people have. Or maybe it's because I am coming from a 2008 2500...the ride in this is soooo much better. The power is ridiculous, even though I haven't really goosed it yet, still in the break in period. First tow in just over a month from now! https://i.imgur.com/BWKBaj7.jpg height=480 width=640 https://i.imgur.com/7fQNkEU.jpg height=480 width=613 Fantastic colour. Beautiful. Congrats. Looks like a great truck.

RE: F150 Lightening

Yep. There is a new apartment building complex with 176 parking spots in the parking lot. There are at least 40 half tons. :) Meh. People have different tastes and needs. Nothing wrong with a half ton as a daily driver. The developers included 4 level 2 charging stations for residents only. There are a few BEV's there so they get used. Apparently room for a dozen more, Good foresight on their part. BEV sales are climbing fast in this province, I think once EV trucks are out that will climb even faster. Teslas are like corolas in out little town. :) (Little exaggeration :) ) Yea, unfortunately they will need to upgrade all the electric in a lot of those parking lots and decks. Lots of places by me have 150 plus units with a multi story parking deck. And 0 chargers. This could be a mess. I have no idea the amount of voltage needed, plus the transformer capacities. The lot behind where i work has 3 chargers that have been there for like 5 years. Maybe a bit longer. At first no one used them, now everyone is fighting for those spots. To the future! .......maybe....... Yepir. Lots of upgrading for building owners. Re voltage. 120 or 240 depending on how fast you want to charge. About half of the EV owners just charge at home with 120. The other half put a stove plug or dryer plug or even just a 240 volt 12 amp circuit on their garage or driveway. Our second charger is like that. We ran out of capacity on our 100 amp panel. Still, quicker than 120 at 12 amps. In other news, the electrician trade will be busy. :).

RE: F150 Lightening

Made my reservations after an exasperating attempts last night (and it's not as if their website is overloaded like what happened to Tesla in Cybertruck launch). Gawd, that's some clunky website they have.. I hope that F150 won't prove as frustrating as this website and the reservation process. Now, it's time to earn the money out of trading Ford stocks to pay for the unit. That's how I got the money for the reservation -- well, many times over just this morning. lol. Are you keeping your reservation for the Cybertruck? Wifey is but is leaning towards an SUV now. Yes, the wifey or one of the kids may get the other one and I got to decide which is mine (lol). Or, trade hit (which one?) at some profit..:B An electric SUV? Which one? So, you'll get the Cybertruck? Lucky dude! It’s between the Model Y and the Model X. The x is kinda big. Talked to somebody with the same trailer we are looking at and it seems well suited to the task. They also do the same kind of camping in the same places. We need something small this time around. Easy on and off the ferries and suitable for the smaller sites in the older provincial parks. We have a few months to decide. No panic.

Or as someone once said, “this sucker is quick”. :).

I’m out of the loop on half tons. Do people really tow 10,000 pounds with half tons?

RE: Small "peel and stick" solar panels

How are these different than the other flexible solar panels out there, for example go power.

RE: New To the Forum

Welcome. We towed a small car trailer for years behind a 40 DP with no issues at campgrounds. But a call ahead can be really useful. Enjoy the road and that new rig.

RE: Tesla Semi truck unveil & test ride set for Oct 26th !

Biden Test Drive F150 All-Electric Lighning. Anyone else stoked about Ford's unveiling of all electric F150? Politics aside, with Biden on the photo driving it, if his program to accelerate the adoption of EV, F150, the best selling vehicle ever, will be the one to do it. It just depends on it's competitive advantage, consumer acceptance (already a given but to include the all electric version) and how quickly they can re-tool and achieve scale. Yah kinda cool. I posted this in the tow vehicles forum but it was taken down. I think those sections are now only reserved for liquid fueled vehicles. Sad. Apparently there have been a lot of complaints about me posting topics involving alternative fueled tow vehicles. I’ve been put on a very short leash for posting anything. Meh. I get it. The Old timers go to senior centres do they can enjoy old movies and reruns of gun smoke. They don’t don’t want to come here and get barraged by new technology. I get it. I think this will be the only thread going forward that allows discussion of new technology vehicles that are not gas or diesel. It hidden away enough where it won’t insult the general membership. Meh. It’s all good. I suspect soon enough I’ll just get deleted from the Ether and I’ll become but a distant memory on RV.net. :). Cheers all.

RE: Had our catalytic converter stolen

My brother died stealing cooper from high tension lines to pay for his drug habit. He started taking the folks beer at around age 9-10, then coke, and then crack. He joined AA beat alcoholism and coke, but could not over come crack. My family fought a war that lasted about 20 years supporting him, sending him to schools, doctors, visiting him in jails, and giving him places to live. He served in the Navy, was a journey man plumber, owned a drain cleaning business, was an incredibly hard worker, but also had a gene or propensity to alter his mind. I can assure you he, and my family especially my father and the world would have be better off if he could have cured his addiction. Many people have similar stories and it hurts just a little that some feel they were not worth saving. He inherited the alcoholism gene (runs in the family) through no fault of his own. Sorry for your loss. I’m going back to amend my less than sensitive comment. You are right. Many in those positions suffer from addiction.

RE: House trailer endorsement in BC

And what if your are just visiting for a few weeks? No worries. If you are legal in your own province or state you are legal in BC. Reciprocity agreements etc.

RE: Had our catalytic converter stolen

All electric cars will cure this problem but the slime will find something else to steal. What do you think the VALUE of Electric Car Battery banks are????? Thousands of dollars. Doug Key statement: "But the slime will find something else to steal. " On edit, I removed my insensitive comment. My apologies.

RE: Had our catalytic converter stolen

Hard to hide otherwise. My wife always knows when I’m in the lineup at Wendy’s getting a frosty. Really sucks. :). Wow, that pinpoint level of accuracy??? And I used to resent my iPhone as "husband tracking device". Good thing I don’t have a wandering eye. Her last career involved wearing combat boots and a rifle. I’ll leave it there. :).

Doug True, but harder to get out in a hurry. I’m thinking load it into an enclosed trailer with a faraday cage so Tesla (or the owner) can’t see it on the tracking software. Hard to hide otherwise. RE: Canadian Camping outlook or No Alaska this year

Ontario Provincial Parks are presently closed. If you did not book anything already for July and August you are probably pooched. At least for the big popular parks. If you don't mind driving up North of North Bay you MIGHT get something. Wow. They are all open in BC...and mostly packed.

RE: One Great Big EV Thread

Revisit history News reporting of the hydrogen air ships of Germany. The public was obsessed with "low energy cost" airship transportation until a major conflagration in New Jersey. I don’t know. If they can get the outrageous cost of the fuel down I can see it being useful in heavy transport. Commuting type vehicles not so much as it is soooo convenient to just fuel at home. I think hydrogen will find a market though. JMHO.

RE: One Great Big EV Thread

:). Way to much work. Wife is fixated on a little guy max. Easy to get on and off the ferries and small enough to fit in all the old provincial park sites. We are going to look at another one next month. It’ll be a little change from the 40 foot pusher. :).

RE: Canadian Camping outlook or No Alaska this year

Campgrounds are booked pretty solid in BC. No lack of people going camping here. The RV sales lots are looking pretty bare to. Numbers are dropping off quick here and vaccinations going well. My guess is by first week of June there will be some serious lifting of restrictions. The restrictions aren’t keeping people from going camping, they are just staying closer to home.
