RE: ignore automaker's suggested towing speed

IMHO: 1. 80 is too fast to tow in any situation . . . relax and enjoy the ride. 2. Don't relax too much . . . driving 55 - 58 on an interstate makes you a hazard. Those speeds are what secondary roads are made for.

RE: Dog, Bikes, Truck - solution

4 people and 3 dogs in a truck . . . cozy, eh? Sounds like a Class A situation to me, but that's just me.

Did they not advise you of what the diagnostic charge was before you signed the work order?

RE: Just received coupons that expire 10/1/23!

Just got CW coupons from CW in the mail that expire 10/1/23! They want to create a sense of urgency. Good marketing on their part.

RE: Truck was totaled, looking at GM 6.6 Gasser

Wow, hard to believe that the frame was bent from what otherwise looks like minor damage... Hope the at-fault driver's insurance makes you whole. Nothing worse than losing an adequate paid-for vehicle because of someone else's negligence... I agree. It just shows us where the manufacturer's priorities lie -- certainly not in crush zones or other such features keyed to minimizing collision damage. It's a shame that such minor damage yields a total loss. Well, up goes everyone's insurance premiums because of it.

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

Ford's share of government fleet sales is in excess of 62%, and remember, those are very, very low margin sales. Bottom line profitability is a much better indicator to me (especially as an investor) than total number of trucks sold.

RE: 2024 F150 Reveal

"Best Selling Truck for 46 Years..." The F150, or ALL F-series trucks combined? How do actual revenues compare? (in that Ford does a tremendous amount of fleet business, which, as we all know, are minimal profit per unit). Not that I have allegiance to one brand or another . . . I don't even own a truck, nor will I be buying one . . . but I'd just be curious to see some real numbers where it really counts, in the gross revenue column.

RE: Camping World or Mom and Pop

Remember, CW is not the only mega-dealer -- there are plenty of them (most with better reputations than CW, IMO). Price-wise, I've found that the large dealers are more likely to take a slim profit deal since they are higher volume stores than the mom & pops. Of course, that warm fuzzy feeling from the mom & pop store, and service after the sale, might easily trump a lower purchase price offered by one of the big boys. All food for thought. Best of luck!

Yes, pretty cool! It has the aerodynamics of a brick, but still cool! :C

RE: Towing a toad

I tend to agree with craig7h. I was in the automobile business for 30 years, so always had numerous options of what I wanted to take with us on a trip. So, I found that a Demco all-galvanized dolly with surge brakes fit our needs the best (plus I used it in my business extensively). Although it limited us to a FWD vehicle, sometimes it was a small van, sometimes a very economical puddle-jumper, and sometimes our own personal Audi A4 convertible. We never had any issues with what to do with the dolly when we reached our destination, and with a drop-down front wheel added, although the dolly was heavy, it was still very maneuverabile.

RE: How to search for tires?

Utility trailer, eh? Just go to WalMart, point at the trailer, and tell 'em to hook you up. I wouldn't spend an excessive amount of time shopping for them, but that's just me!

RE: Inventory not at all locations

Thought all Camping World locations sold the same brands and RV inventory. Seen a TT that sort of interested me but closest location that had it was several hundred miles away. Closest Camping World location, or closest 'any dealer' location? If you end up having to go several hundred miles . . . sounds like a nice weekend trip to me!

RE: Thinking of buying a Class A and seeking advice

Just wondering, since you mentioned "I've grown increasingly worse with seasonal depression issues", what exactly is it in NW Ohio that forces you to remain there? Maybe it's time for a permanent change? I know, not really helping to answer your initial question, but just a thought. I made that decision decades ago, leaving SE Michigan behind, and have never regretted it for a minute.

RE: Jensen 19 “ tv remote replacement

Really, since you can buy a new 19" TV for 60 or 70 bucks, why make yourself crazy about pairing a new remote to an older TV? Just a thought.

RE: Selling an RV/payment

I'm real curious why "it's just wires are not acceptable in this case" --- clearly wiring funds is the easiest and safest way to handle such a transaction. Obviously there's some key information we're not being provided here.

RE: cost of front end alignment for MB Sprinter 2017 3500 drw class C

Mercedes vehicles and Mercedes service are definitely not what they used to be. I was GSM of a Mercedes/Volvo/Porsche-Audi dealership in the mid-80's through the 90's. The Mercedes you bought then was head & shoulders quality over pretty much anything else on the road, and while service costs were slightly higher, they weren't crazy. Today, you can go out and buy a new Toyota that is every bit as high of a quality product as a Mercedes. It will be cheaper to keep, and retain its value better than any Mercedes you could buy. The three-pointed star on the grille does not symbolize what it used to. Although I made a helluva living back then, I will never own another Mercedes product.

RE: Learned an expensive lesson today

Sold the house back in 2007...got debt free first and never had a desire to go back in bondedge. Without interest payments, it's much easier to build wealth. Of course buying a new truck is a choice. We typically shoot for around 10yr old. A fraction of the price and years of reliable life left. $10k is a lot easier than $70k. Please let me know where I can buy 2013 3/4-ton trucks that aren't eaten up with miles for 10K each. I see a lucrative business emerging here! :C If you are expecting a 10yr old truck with 20k miles that's been barn stored with a cover the entire time, yeah, not happening but long gone are the days when a truck was dead-man-walking at 100k miles. We are in a 2008 that we bought for $10k about 6yrs ago (the window sticker that was in the glove box, said it was $60k new). Just getting back from a trip to Alaska. We've put a little less than 100k miles on it. Go ahead and double it for recent inflation (which has really started to settle down anyway) and it's still a heck of a lot cheaper than buying new. Typically most 10-year-old trucks will have a bare minimum of 150K on the odometer (most with substantially more). I just don't want to start there. No, I don't expect 20K either, but there is indeed a happy medium somewhere along the way for everyone.

RE: Is a roof leak covered by warranty?

Only 5 months old? Certainly a warranty issue. Would you expect a 5 month old CAR to leak? Of course not.

RE: Hate being followed around

When I walk into the store and look around at how expansive the showroom is I think to myself "wow the markup must be huge to afford this" Just food for thought. Just do your research and enter the establishment an educated buyer. Don't worry about how much people make --- it'll drive you crazy. How much does your doctor make? the grocery store? the gas station? the home builder? the HVAC contractor?....and on and on. Yup, it will indeed drive you crazy!! :C
