front cap fading and peelinag

I know this has been discussed before and that it is a common problem. My cap looks bad, peeling and fading. It is a 2011 cougar fiver with the smoke gray color. Looking for ideas from others who have done something and the appx cost. Are rv mfg painting the caps now? And how are they holding up?

removing antenna ??

Has anyone just removed their antenna? These things have always had the potential to leak. I now have a small leak coming down on the crank inside. Do we even need these things anymore? I ask because I am not up on all this new stuff and am thinking of just removing the whole thing and patching the hole. Do they have new gadgets out where you don't need the old crank ups anymore? I'm not talking satellites, something else. TV is not very important to us, but would like to catch the news or a program or two. What can we do to get some reception without the crank up? Behind times.

do you do this

I'm thru taking the fiver out for the winter. Probably won't go out again for 5 months at least. Do you raise your rv so the weight is off the tires? I never have in the past, but at the price of tires today, I'm thinking I'll start. And do you put a pair of jack stands under each axle? I've read that this might ever so slightly bend the axle when left for months. So where would you put the stand not to do damage?

dri z air dehumidifiers

the contents of these is calcium chloride, the same ingredient as ice melt. Has anyone bought ice melt to refill the dri z air? I just bought 60 oz dri z air refill at walmart for $7, but you can buy 50lbs of ice melt at lowes for $30, I think it was. I am not a big fan of dri z air but may be better than nothing and I can't run an electric dehumidifier 24x7.

anyone else had this happen to them

Out for a few days in the fiver, got all set up and hooked up, went inside and turned the water heater on gas. In just a minute or so the carbon monoxide alarm went off. Cleared the area, restarted, same results. So I just turned it to electric for the trip. I have never had this happen before, 25 years. But one thing that was going on was there was a strong wind hitting the water heater side of the fiver where it vents. You think the wind could have driven just enough fumes back inside to set off the alarm?? By the way, started the w.h. at home with no problems. I've just never heard of or had this happen before.

shower acces panel on cougar 5er

thought I'd run a cup of bleach thru the fresh water tank. I added the beach and water, went inside turned on pump, all faucets ran just fine until I got to the shower. When I turned the faucets on water poured out from under the cover that covers the faucets and holes they come thru. I want to look in back of it all and searching the net it says most rv's have an access panel. Of course I can't find one. 2011 cougar 291 rls Any help appreciated. a.

RE: hitch question

The sliding bar type hitch is very secure, but old technology. The two jaws that close on the pin is a very common style latch used on many hitches including the much liked B&W. But I have no idea how many of those can be opened with a shovel. Personally I like the wrap around jaw type that wraps fully around the pin and doesn’t have that opening behind the pin. I had a Pullrite Super 5th hitch in my previous truck and now a Reese Elite hitch in my current truck both having the wrap around jaw and geared to the pull handle. Just seems the most secure latch method to me. I guess it's just me, I liked the old tech.I do have a small gap when the jaws close, they don't wrap around. I just can't imagine that system with a small gap is as secure as the solid bar going across.

hitch question

Thinking back, I think I have only had two different hitches, a hi jacker and now a reese 16k. I think I liked the hi jacker better. It seemed better built and simpler. It had the bar that slid across the king pin locking it in place. The reese seems less sturdy and has two jaws that come around the king pin locking it in place. I tried the following. Close the jaws. No matter where the lever is, the lock towing, or the other two positions you can go to the back of the truck and open the jaws with a shovel handle, (I used). This just doesn't seem right. By the way this hitch came with the 5er from a pp sale. I no longer had the hi jacker. So I have no manual or experience with this hitch. and the "lock positions" does that apply only to the sliding part and has nothing to do with the jaws?? Not to sure about this hitch although there are millions out there I'm sure.

do you buy the replacement ins on your tires

I wrote about tires recently and asked a question, now I have another. Ready to buy the goodyear endurance at discount tire for the 5er. Of course they want to sell me at $78 this free replacement certificate if anything happens to a tire in ten years. Just wondering how many of you buy this? I know usually these things are a waste of money.

need new tires

I'm in need of new tires, leaning towards goodyear endurance, but spendy. Also considered carlisle and maxxis. Just wondering why I never hear anyone or read any article about firestone st tires. Any idea why? And what's your opinion on LT tires on a fiver that's only used here and there a few days at a time. They say, opinions are like belly buttons, everybody has one, right or wrong. What yours.
