winter vs battery

I want to keep my fiver hooked up to shore power this winter because I run one of those round electric dehumidifiers 24/7. Can I just take a battery cable off and try to remember to hook it up every 2-3 weeks for a few days to charge the battery? Or do you even need to do this? It doesn't seem right to keep the battery hooked up to the power all the time. What's the best way or what do you do?

RE: front cap fading and peelinag

Had mine repainted after I removed graphics. It cost me $800 for a 2 part epoxy paint job. It was gorgeous and much tougher than the orig gelcoat junk. I am ready to start getting estimates to paint one side and the front cap, hope you are online and that you are permitted to give a name of a business. What place painted your rv? I noticed you are in the Seattle area. Any others please reply.

tire pressure

do you run the max pressure in your tires as written on the sidewall? I have the Endurance, and it states 80# psi. Seems to me you need to take the outside temperature into consideration. I an reluctant to inflate to 80 psi and go on the road when it's 90% out. Then it becomes a guessing game, what psi at 90, at 75, at 45 degrees. 8200lb 5er. The sidewall does read, max pressure, so should you put less due to the temp? Or let the pressure go well over the 80 because of the heat?

RE: do you really need a battery?

Just out of curiosity I tried to open my slide yesterday. My battery was disconnected, so I hooked up to power and tried the slide. Wouldn't open. Had to connect the battery just to open the slide. In WA, Costco, Walmart, Batteries Plus. I don't think Les Schwab would be a good place to get a good price on a battery. Boy are you right. $160. out the door at Schwab, $96. otd at costco. To keep this thread going for days, I'll ask another question. In researching batteries I read you should let them discharge to 50% before charging. OK, but how do I know when it's down to 50%? What do you do regarding your battery and maintain it in good shape?

RE: do you really need a battery?

on the battery subject above, I was just on amazon and the price is all over the place, into the hundreds on some. What brand do you like? Does Les Schwab here in the NW have a good deep cell?

do you really need a battery?

If you only camp in full hookup sites, why do you need a house battery? If the power goes out in the park, we have battery powered lanterns. The only reason I can think of, is to run the frig and maybe the furnace, but the power usually isn't out long enough to affect the frig and we do no cold weather camping. Your tow vehicle provides the power while towing for the running lights. A couple of things that might pop up would be if you needed to roll in the awing or slide. Anything else? What am I not thinking about?

front cap fading and peelinag

I know this has been discussed before and that it is a common problem. My cap looks bad, peeling and fading. It is a 2011 cougar fiver with the smoke gray color. Looking for ideas from others who have done something and the appx cost. Are rv mfg painting the caps now? And how are they holding up?

removing antenna ??

Has anyone just removed their antenna? These things have always had the potential to leak. I now have a small leak coming down on the crank inside. Do we even need these things anymore? I ask because I am not up on all this new stuff and am thinking of just removing the whole thing and patching the hole. Do they have new gadgets out where you don't need the old crank ups anymore? I'm not talking satellites, something else. TV is not very important to us, but would like to catch the news or a program or two. What can we do to get some reception without the crank up? Behind times.

do you do this

I'm thru taking the fiver out for the winter. Probably won't go out again for 5 months at least. Do you raise your rv so the weight is off the tires? I never have in the past, but at the price of tires today, I'm thinking I'll start. And do you put a pair of jack stands under each axle? I've read that this might ever so slightly bend the axle when left for months. So where would you put the stand not to do damage?
