RE: Recommendation for Tow Bar Setups

Happy with our system below. If you're handy, there's likely a youtube video on how to install the base plate on the 2014. I also found a video on installing the brake light wiring using the Roadmaster with diodes wiring kit.

RE: Let’s hear your best MPG and driving style ?

7.25mpg going 65-66 while using cruise control. Cruise control works quite well on our rig. I also keep the jake brake off.

RE: Cummins Fuel Rail Recall

Yeah, had mine done a few weeks ago and it didn't show any signs of leaking. My understanding that it's just washers added to the rail.

RE: Tire covers

I use McKee's 37 Gloss Tire Gel (non petroleum or silicon containing formulation with UV protection additives). Love the stuff.

RE: Death Wobble Continues ....

My research into the death wobble issue started when I experienced it with my Equinox. What I found was many thing 'can contribute' to a DW but the MOST OFTEN culprit was the power steering in the vehicles. In the Equinox case, it only occurred in the 4 cyl models. This was because it came with electric steering assist instead of hydraulic like the 6 cyl models. After my complaint to NHTSA, GM offered a solution. Instead of pulling the interior fuse, they switched it to the one under the hood. This allowed the power steering module to remain energized and functional while towing. Unfortunately, it also leaves all the other electrical items functional also. This means you should install a battery maintainer in your vehicle while towing to keep the battery charged. IMO, a minor inconvenience. While waiting for GM's 'fix' I installed an eye bolt through the floorboard just in front of the driver's seat. A bungee hooked to the eye bolt to the bottom of the steering wheel worked perfectly. However, GM's fix has cured the DW and I've had zero problems since using their new directions. As I understand it, Jeep has a similar power steering setup and the recall fix was simply a bypass cable for the steering module...hope this helps...Dennis Dennis, I've got a 2017 Chevrolet Corvette zi bought new 4 years ago. Corvettes have the electric power steering as well. No problems even reported on Corvette Forum. I agree with Dennis that it's related to electric power steering assist vehicles. Never saw a Corvette being towed and would think numbers are low compared to others commonly used toads. I haven't experienced it yet in my Grand Cherokee either at 14.5K miles of towing.

RE: Late Snowbirding/ full timing

I've found that Campground Reviews.com is a good source for locating potential campgrounds in all 50 states. Just click on the state you want to focus on and you'll find the previously reviewed campgrounds along with their websites, etc. Plus you get input from real campers rather than just looking at their websites. I used this prior to our first snowbirding trip to Florida in 2013. Start your research, keep track of those potential places you might want to contact for the time period you're looking for. Good luck! https://www.campgroundreviews.com/ 2X and also use the app RV Parky

RE: Down Sizing

If possible try not to go the storage route. During our research into going full time, this was generally the recommendation. Glad we didn't go that route. It's just about 2 yrs now and will be more yrs to come. Lots of monthly payments saved.

RE: Escapees worth joining?

It's not expensive to join. Try it out for yourself.

RE: Least expensive EZ-Pass

I one I got from Florida is their E-Pass which covers all of FL and EZ-Pass States. Got a responder for the Toad and RV. No monthly charge if you have an auto replenishment setup with your credit card.

RE: Jeep Wrangler ReadyBrake Elite II Setup

Nice write up and the Jeep doesn't look that old. I hook a couple of bungie cords between the back of the brake pedal and seat as insurance to eliminate brake dragging

RE: Setting up a TOAD

There were youtube videos on how to set up our Grand Cherokee baseplate and Roadmaster with diodes brake light wiring. Assume there are some available for your Jeep. It's really not hard if you're somewhat handy.

RE: Can you buy in one state and register in another

Need to set up your new domicile address 2-3 months ahead to show bank, credit card or bills showing the new address to the DMV and Tax office to prove that you "moved" to the new address. It's not difficult setting up a domicile. escapees.com used to have an excellent guide on how to set up a domicile.

RE: Can you buy in one state and register in another

The out of state dealer will provide temporary plates if you purchase outside of Florida. It's fairly easy to register a vehicle in Florida and suggest making an appointment with the Florida DMV to save time waiting. Consider setting up your domicile in Crestview, FL with MyRVmail.com who has been great to work with.

RE: Do you run house AC while on the road

Currently in eastern US where we haven't boondocked much. Ran the AC last week and put the thermostat down to 67 to run a couple of our ACs to exercise the generator. Did it again 1.5 months ago. I emagine we'll run them during the hot days when travelling this summer.

RE: Death Wobble Continues ....

Bungee cords holding the steering wheel snugly but not locked in place will help. I've been thinking of doing this if my toad starts to wobble.

RE: domicile confused

What we did was sign up for the mail forwarding service and changed our address on everything so it started going there. A couple months later we actually went to the state, got the vehicle titles transferred and registered, got our drivers license, changed our insurances to that state, set up banking, registered to vote. It then became our legal domicile/residence and we were given at street address to use at that time for things that require a street address. We did it in the middle of the year and filed our taxes as residents of out old state for part of the year and non-resident the rest of the year. Our new state does not have a state tax. The federal was filed using the new domicile address. The tax part officially documented our move from our old state to the new. We have since filed for our social security and medicare using that same address with no problems. 2X - good writeup. Need to set up your new domicile address 2-3 months ahead to show bank, credit card or bills showing the new address to the DMV and Tax office to prove that you "moved" to the new address. It's not difficult setting up a domicile.

RE: voting and driver license issues with full time

We have no problem using a PMB for banking, investments, taxes, social security and medicare, insurance etc. We have never had anyone refuse to accept the address. We change PMB to Apt # . It's been 10 years and not a problem. ( PS - Some mail services provide a street address without a PMB that can be used when needed if a situation does happen). PS - someone mentioned Good Sam and Crestview FL -- maybe ? I do know that Passport America provides a full-timers mail service and their address is Crestview FL. MyRVmail.com in Crestview FL also handles Good Sams mailing business and they've been great to work with. I called the Okaloosa Co Tax and DMV offices in Florida prior to setting our domicile there to ask about voting, etc....

RE: beginner full-time

Escapees used to have an excellent guide on how to set up a domicile and suggest checking that out. For us, selling the stuff in the home was the most difficult part of going full time. I've backpack camped prior to kids and took them tent camping every year. Below is our 1st RV and it's not been a problem for us switching to it. We've read, read and read blogs and forums for 10+yrs prior to going full time. Lot's of great info on line now to help you along.
