RE: TRIP PLANNER APP FOR RV?

Could not find RV Trip Wizard in my app store It's not a phone app. It's a website application but you can use it on your phone. I wouldn't but it's possible. RV Trip Wizard

RE: TRIP PLANNER APP FOR RV?

RV Trip Wizard RVTW is the best of a limited selection.. It does just about everything, RV routing to avoid low bridges and such, it has all the campground in campgroundreviews (same company), I shows range circles on the map so if you want to drive a certain distance it will show that. It has a app that you can use on your phone in real time. It's new and had some problems but they are getting them worked out. The developers listen to the users and are actively updating the software every few months. Get the demo and take a look. +1

RE: Avoiding Low clearance routes

I use RV Trip Wizard when planning a trip from home ahead of time and I have a Rand McNally Truckers Atlas I always carry with me if I need to go off course. I also have a Garmin Dezl truckers GPS but don't use it a lot. I prefer Google Maps for navigation but that doesn't have the low clearance notifications. To get around that problem, I take the map I made in RV Trip Wizard and recreate it on google maps on my phone. I will say that even though I take extra precautions and triple check my routes, I almost took the top off my 5th wheel a couple years ago when approaching a campground because a low bridge was around a curve and unable to be seen ahead of time and it was 1/2 mile from the campground! You would think it would have been listed somewhere so never rely 100% on any software or GPS unit! Stay observant, alert and always watch for low clearance signs.

RE: Utility Trailers - 2,000-lb Capacity

Sherline scale at $130 is a better deal than $198. +1 I had a 2000Lb. Sherline when I had a travel trailer to measure tongue weight. Now I have a 5th wheel and after speaking with Sherline, I swapped out the gauge and put on one that reads to 5000 Lb. No need to get fancy. You just need something that works.

RE: Durability of Command strip hooks and hangers?

Command strips and hooks work well but they have weight ratings listed on the package. Whatever it says, plan on putting no more than 1/4 of the rated weight on a hook. We bought the hooks that were supposed to be able to handle up to 7.5 pounds. We hung an aluminum frying pan on the wall of our RV that weighed 2 pounds 2 ounces on the hook. It worked great for about 2 months and then on one hot day it came crashing down. Fortunately the only damage was to the pan. It's slightly out of round now.

RE: Building fence post sewer hose storage. Need 5.5" caps

With the cost of the vinyl fence post tubes, the caps, hinges and brackets and then having to put it all together, wouldn't it be better to just buy one of these? Valterra Adjustable Hose Carrier My toy hauler came with the Valterra mounted from the factory. I then made 2 more vinyl fence posts for the rig. Other than a stupid mounting location, it's harder to put the hose into than the vinyl fence post. The fence post also holds more. Thanks for that info learntorv.

RE: GMC/Silverado 2500 Gas

I have a lightly loaded '20 LTZ. Doesnt have the multi camera system (but I wish it did). Be careful what you wish for. I have a very loaded 2020 LT. It does have the multi camera "system". I put that in quotes because you have to buy the extra cameras for placement on your RV which I opted not to do. The backup camera on GM trucks that come with the system, is different than the standard backup camera. They come with a wide angle camera. It's pretty much useless as a backup camera under normal backing conditions. Everything is distorted and the truck sensors beep all the time because it thinks I'm going to hit something that I'm not even close to. The view when backing up while the wheels are turned makes the distorted view in the photo 10X worse. I've had two dealerships tell me it's normal and nothing can be done to correct the problem. https://i.imgur.com/F2IMrP8l.jpg

RE: SRW Tires

Putting sticker numbers, Spring packs, Timbrens, Air bags and what's considered legal weight aside for a minute, aren't the two real determining factors what a truck can handle the GAWR and the Max tire weight rating with the tires truly being the weak link because the axels can really handle more than their rating? Maybe I'm missing something but if I had the same E rated tires with weight ratings of 3,750 pounds on a 3/4 ton and a one ton truck, regardless of what was added to beef things up, isn't the max payload of both trucks 7,500 pounds? Isn't the tire ratings usually the weak link in max weight capability in heavy duty trucks?

RE: Busted!

I've been researching storage places. I only need to find a place for the months of February and March this year, because they gave me to the end of January to comply. I'll probably move it to storage this year and then work on making a place for it in the back yard. The tree is no stately, towering, majestic natural wonder. It was damaged in an ice storm many years ago, and it is sort of ugly as a result. It won't be missed. The leveling and other work can be done relatively inexpensively. -Speak I think this is the right decision Speak. Maybe you can make some coin from this. Is the tree a hardwood tree that you could cut up, split and sell face cords or smaller bundles of firewood? Craigslist and Facebook marketplace would be your friend in that case.

RE: Busted!

I also live in Western NY. I would find a place to store it for the rest of this winter and then do the work on your property in the Spring if that's what you want to do. Most of those self storage places offer outside storage for RV's at reasonable prices. The weather alone would stop me from trying to do it now. With that being said, I created a pad in my yard that hss pressure treated 4X6's for a border and filled with Asphalt millings. It has worked out great. I don't sink in and millings are cheap. I borrowed a buddy's backhoe and dug out the lawn, put in the 4X6's myself and paid $1000 to have the millings delivered, raked out and rolled. If you're wondering why I didn't go out to the street, it's because code in my area only allows for one driveway on a residential property so I did what I could get away with. https://i.imgur.com/VIMX50Hl.jpg

RE: Problem with master closets

We use wooden hangers with metal hooks that freely turn so we can hang our clothes normally, sideways or on an angle. It might be the solution to your problem. We got them on Amazon. Here is the Link

RE: Ford posts videos of winter testing of their Electric F150.

I'm not against developing Electric cars and trucks but I don't think the industry is quite where it needs to be to be fully committed by 2035. Electric Cars and pickup trucks are one thing. Even that is a huge undertaking to get it accomplished without infrastructure problems in such a short period of time. But Electric Tractor Trailers for cross Country hauling, Electric Jets for Trans-Atlantic flights and electric Rockets for Space exploration is still decades away. How would the Amish people survive? They aren't going to change their religious beliefs easily. They use battery powered equipment but use generators with gas/diesel engines to replenish those batteries. The Amish are one of the fastest growing populations in America so eventually it will happen but not in the next 15 years.

RE: Ford posts videos of winter testing of their Electric F150.

With Fords all-in commitment to be 100% electric by 2035, it makes me wonder how soon they and other manufacturers will start phasing out Gas and Diesel options. It won't be all electric overnight so I imagine for people that prefer to stay with Gas or Diesel, it will become increasingly difficult to find the vehicle you want the closer to 2035 it is.

RE: Six-point leveling system -- reduce rocking

Our previous 5th wheel only had the front landing gear and the rear stabilizer jacks. I used X-Chocks which did very little and I had a tripod on the king pin that didn't do anything either. Our new 5th wheel has the 6 point system and it's rock solid without any add-ons. I don't have wood blocks like others that have replied here but I use a whole stack of lynx levelers under each jack pad. I was pleasantly surprised how stable the rig is.

RE: Propane tank level monitor

I have that system and it works great. You just have to make sure you have it set to the correct size tank to be accurate. Where a lot of people error is having the app set to 20lb. tanks when the sensors are on 30lb. tanks.

RE: RVParky trip planning software

The best trip planner out there is RV Trip wizard - I have used it to plans over 10 trips of over 25 stops each and even used it to plan a three week car trip in Europe It is very easy to download it and put it in my Garmin RV 660 +1
