RE: City water hookup leaks

Backflow preventer valve may need cleaning or repair. See this YouTube video.

RE: Slide cable popping (Heartland wilderness)

This is a good YouTube video on how to adjust your slide out cables that may be causing the popping noise. See the video at about the 6 minute mark.

RE: Heat duct oder

If it's not a critter, you might want to check under the toilet sink to make sure that the drain vent is not stuck open.

RE: Dish Wally Receiver DVR Hard Drive

As best as I can tell, the Wally has 2 USB 1.0/2.0 ports. By specs, a USB 1/2 port will only provide 0.5Ma power to each port/device or 1.0Ma to a single device if only one device is plugged in. An external HD like any USB 3.0 Seagate Expansion HD requires 0.9Ma of power for max playback. Therefor, you will get good performance (no buffering) from any USB 3.0 HD as long as nothing else is attached to the other port. However, if you add an OTA tuner and/or a WiFi dongle, the USB 3.0 HD will periodically pause playback and start buffering. If you want to use a USB 3.0 HD plus the other goodies, you should run them through an externally powered USB 3.0 hub (That's what I have on mine) or get an externally powered HD. Don't forget, you will have to register your DVR function with DISH for a $40 extra fee. FYI, Newegg has a sale on now for the Seagate 2TB Expansion USB 2.0/3.0 HD HERE.

RE: Terk FM + Antenna Connection

An external loop antenna is typically attached to a receiver to strengthen the AM frequency signal. Your receiver should have a separate FM connector on the back for your external Terk FM antenna. If the receivers connections are labeled (FM, Gnd) or colored (Red, BLack) be sure to connect the Terk Black/Gnd wire to the receivers' Black/Gnd connector. To help reduce static noise, locate the antenna away from any hidden electric wiring.

RE: Cleaning Fresh water tank and water heater

Thanks for those answers. One more question - Is it best to drain the water heater after the sanitization, or is it ok just to leave the faucet open and pump fresh water through until the bleach smell goes away? Pumping fresh water into the tank will only keep diluting the sanitation bleach water and really purge it. IMO it's best to drain the tank completely and refill with fresh water.

RE: Who is towing with a Chevy Colorado?

From 2016 to 2019 my GMC Canyon (see my sig below) was able to pull my 7K TT up a long 7% grade at 70+ MPH in cruse control. In 2019/2020 GMC remapped the computer so now I pull the 7K TT up a 7% grade at only 60 MPH with cruse control failure. (I need a better fuel map). Most loaded semi's will be doing only 35 MPH on a 7% grade. I still can do 8% grade at 40 MPH (loaded commercial trucks are normally detoured around roads having an 8% grade). The posted speed limit on 8% roads is usually about 35 MPH or less. Yes, I still recommend a GMC Canyon/Chey Colorado WITH TOW/HAUL enabled for pulling 7K TT on mountain roads. It does a great job (70-80 MPH) pulling on flat roads and has enough weight and wheel base to handle cross winds with a WDH.

RE: Cleaning Fresh water tank and water heater

I use the ratio of 1/4 cup bleach for 10 gallons of water for at least 24 hours. I drain and flush any antifreeze out of the system first. I then put 1 cup of bleach into a gallon jug, fill it with water to dilute it, dump it into my empty fresh water tank, and then fill my 40 gallon tank with fresh water. I run the water pump to fill the water lines and water heater with the bleach solution until I smell bleach from each tap. I refill the water tank and let it sit for at least 1 day (2 days wait and a short 20 mile drive would be better). I finish by draining and flushing the bleach solution and filling the tank with fresh water.

RE: Wifi access while on the road near Savannah, GA?

Your cellphone's hotspot is your best bet were service is available. Second best is to buy some limited high-speed broadband service at a truck stop like FlyingJ. Most free WiFi places like restaurants will cut you off after a few minutes of high speed streaming.

RE: Level Mate Pro

It doesn't matter whether the slide(s) is/are in or out when setting up the LevelMatePRO. If the chassis is level when you calibrate the LevelMatePRO, the the chassis will be level when you use the LevelMatePRO to level it whether the slides are in or out. You're not mounting the LevelMatePRO to a slide (I hope). Rob Not with my single slideout - it 12' long holding the dinette and couch. I level the TT perfectly with the slide in and after the slide is extended, the TT is 2" out. My LevelMate is mounted to the chassis and I want the chassis to be level AFTER the slide is extended.

RE: Level Mate Pro

I setup mine by physically leveling the TT with the slide out, pulling the slide in, and then setting the level in the Level Mate. The TT will be off level when the Level Mate thinks it's level, but OK after the slide is pulled out.

RE: Using RV generator as backup for house?

Wow. $300 would buy a lot of heavy duty extension cords. Having the refrigerator, microwave, furnace, and room lights run on their own is priceless! :B

RE: Using RV generator as backup for house?

3000 watts should run that house fine. Electrician will probably put the critical items on a 120v sub panel in addition to installing a switch and a power inlet to connect power. This is the switch that I had installed in my house for use with my 3K inverter generator. Works great and allows you to watch the wattage being drawn on each leg.

RE: New to slides

Repeatedly operating the side(s) before the TT is leveled at the campsite can cause them to go out of alignment. When you arrive at your campsite, level the TT as best as you can first, set your stabilizers, and finally extend the slides. When leaving, retract the slides first, retract the stabilizes, and then hook the TT to your TV. The slides should operate just fine as long as the TT is within 1-2 inches of level.

RE: Pulling Long Travel Trailer to Glacier

DW and I took a trip from Cleveland, Ohio to Glacier in 2017 pulling our 30 ft Passport UltraLite TT with my V6 GMC Canyon followed by a side trip up to Banff and Jasper in Canada. The only bad memories we had of that trip were getting through the traffic nightmare and infinite toll stops around Chicago. Enjoy your trip.

RE: Cell Phone Blues..

There are a lot of good free antivirus and anti malware apps in the Play Store. If one of those doesn't fix it then try Norton Antivirus ($$).
