Budget to outfit new 5th wheel?

Can anyone give me an idea of how much I should budget to outfit a new fifth wheel toy hauler? While I know the sky’s the limit, I’m wondering about basics such as water/sewer hoses, leveling blocks, and whatever other non-discretionary basics a person needs.

High end bumper pull toy hauler

We’ve been looking for a toy hauler for our family of five, and after a lot of consideration we have realized that the bumper pull fits our needs better than a fifth wheel. This is based upon the fact that we are big fans of boondocking, sometimes accessing spots down rough national forest roads with clearance issues from trees, etc. Our tow vehicle is a 1 ton Cummins Ram with air suspension, so there is no capacity issue for pulling. We’d like for the garage to be separate from the living area, and our preferences for one and a half baths. Any thoughts?

RE: If you could own any brand of toy hauler…

Hmmm... maybe I should include some caveats. How about $100k and less?

If you could own any brand of toy hauler what would it be?

Lightest slider hitch?

We just bought a 2020 SRW Ram 3500 mega cab (the cab is a godsend with 3 kids), and it only came in a short bed. With five of us riding in the truck and the desire to pull a decent sized toy hauler payload is an issue. Considering my concerns about payload and the constraints of a short bed, can anyone tell me what the best lightweight options are for slider hitches?

RE: Cargo for family of 5?

We are a family of five that is looking into getting a fifth wheel. I’m trying to determine the total gross weight of our trailer once we have it set up, and have no idea what our personal gear (dishes, clothes, other household items) will weigh. Can anyone give me an idea about what I should be factoring in to my gross weights for these items? If your payload capacity is really only 1950lbs, you're going to have limited choices for a 5th wheel, especially one for 5 people. I assume that a bunkhouse model is what you want. After you subtract the weights of the 5 people, 5th wheel hitch and truck cargo, from your 1950 number, that's all you will have for the LOADED pin weight of the 5th wheel. Truck payload vs loaded pin weight is what you should be focusing on first, before gross trailer weight. We have upgraded to a Ram 3500 with 3800 pounds of payload.

Airbags?

I’d like to add airbags to my rear suspension on my Ram 2500 diesel to level my truck when I’m towing, but don’t really feel I need to be able to control them from the cab and don’t want to go through an expensive and involved installation of a full system with a permanent compressor. Any recommendations for airbags that can be inflated with an external compressor?

RE: Does this combination work?

What engine ? What transmission ? I can not believe it has a 24,300 GCWR with only a 3.42 axle ratio. I would expect something like a 3.7 or even 4.1 axle. Sorry, it has the Cummins 6.7 and the M6 (not the Aisin) tranny. Here’s the chart: https://www.ramtrucks.com/assets/towing_guide/pdf/2017_ram_2500_towing_charts.pdf

RE: Does this combination work?

I’m thinking of going with an Andersen Ultimate Fifth Wheel hitch to minimize weight in the bed. Would that be a good approach?

RE: Does this combination work?

Thanks. I’m running E rated Goodyear Duratracs, but may upgrade to an F rated option.

Does this combination work?

Hi all, We are currently looking at getting our first fifth wheel, and I am trying to get my head around what trailers are feasible with our tow vehicle, Our tow vehicle is: 2017 Ram 2500 Mega Cab 3.42 axle ratio 10,000 GVWR 1,950 payload 8,048 base weight (4,953 front, 3,095 rear) 6,000 front 6,500 rear GAWR 24,300 GCWR 14,770 max trailer weight We have three kids, and I’d guess our passenger weight will be 700# I’m hoping to pull this fifth wheel: Grand Designs 31MB 9,778 UVW 11,995 GVWR 1,834 Hitch Weight Is this feasible? Thanks for your advice.
