RE: Pet Peeves in RV Parks

Than goodness none of you were around when a bunch of us old cowboys decided to take over our home campground and take all the grandkids camping. We had all the sites in our area except 2. There were ponies, horses, dogs, bicycles, water balloon fights (which they picked up pieces) and all kinds of games. I felt so bad I went to apologize and they just laughed and thanked us for the entertainment. Said they loved kids from afar and really enjoyed it. I still felt bad because of all the complaints I read on here. Same campground should be avoided on Derby Day 2023, and it won't be kids.

RE: Pet Peeves in RV Parks

Be nice if some folks who need a dog with them all the time could be encouraged to switch to a teddy bear, weighted blanket or Xanax. Would be cheaper as well.
Or maybe those who can't stand the sight of a dog could stick to parks/campgrounds that don't allow dogs.
Seriously, I don't "need" my dogs with me. But I enjoy camping with them and they enjoy camping. I go where they are welcome. I pick up after them. I don't leave them unattended and barking. I don't walk them to your site to go poop. And they are always on a leash. If my bringing them upsets all my neighbors, then I need to rethink. If my bringing them upsets just you, then you need to rethink.
I agree with you. To the person who thinks dog people should get a teddy bear or Xanex. It's honestly why we have a motor home, plus I find hotels creepy. I feel the same way about how some people contain their children. I travel with horses and a couple of little dogs. I don't bring them for your kids to pet. Which honestly sometimes I don't mind, if they are good kids. The little monsters that scream and run wild all the time I can do without. So happy we usually camp in a big group.
ETA: I'm not a kid hater by any means, I find them very entertaining. However when you dump your kids on our campsite to feed while you go play I get very upset. When there is an all adult group we sure don't want your kids just because we have food and music. We usually don't mind if the parents are with them, but have had kid dumpers a lot. Just because we look like and are grandparents...... we don't want to babysit kids. If we do we bring our own. Not people in our group just camping kids who wander up and won't leave and parents don't come get.

RE: Pet Peeves in RV Parks

Wow I guess I have been guilty of most of these things everyone complains about. Thank goodness we travel with a pretty big group. We go to many state parks that have horse facilities and if you encounter our group you are going to be very unhappy. We have lots of music and sometimes a PA, we have never had anyone complain most just usually join in. Let me explain why sometimes those lights are on, try carrying food between campsites or cleaning up the mess. You all fuss about not picking up after dogs, but how can you pick it up if you can't see it, plus I worry about snakes and alligators. If I had a $ for every time I tripped over a fire ring I would be rich. I turn them off when I go to bed. You all would have loved the first time I put a movie in the DVD and didn't realize I was blasting the campground via outside speakers. Thank goodness the dog had to go out. I will pay attention to my outside lights when not camping with my friends.
We have met some of the nicest and strangest people camping. One lady was very offended when my husband offered to get her fire started with a torch. We realized she was a true naturalist when she pitched her tent in the middle of poison ivy. Lots of poison ivy.

RE: Harvest Hosts

Although I don't have a membership we have stayed at a HH site with a friend who did. Our experience was great we only talked to the host on the phone they were closed when we arrived and closed when we left. It was a winery right by the expressway away from all the traffic with a nice yard and parking lot to camp in. A few other campers also, but not crowded and everyone picked up all trash.
We would have gladly made a purchase but didn't get the opportunity. I will see how often my friends use it to pay. I could actually host, but I don't think I want traffic on my small horse farm. I don't have anything to sell either.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

So sorry to read about Lola. Very happy to see the cute new puppy. She sure is a doll. I thought I got one that had some pom in it, they called her a Toy Aussie. Since I didn't think it was even a breed I had DNA ran. She is 1/2 mini aussie, 1/4 Chihuahua & 1/4 Yorkie. I really didn't care what she was, we love her and she's smart. I find around here my old dogs really like the puppies even if they don't want to act like it. Good luck traveling with the pups, keep us posted as she grows up. I love puppies.
