RE: engine longevity?

I have rust on my unit's frame from just visiting a few days most Winters Up North. I don't know when it becomes a problem though. Same with my Mercedes-Benz autos. A couple weeks most every Winter up North, and bits of rust show wherever bare metal is. It's part of the North Country Winters.

RE: Winegard Wingman

I don't have a Batwing, so if I get a Jack with the Wingman, am I good? Or, do I even need the Jack? I presently have Rabbit Ears with the crank out option and directional 360° capabilities. I could mount the Wingman on the old rabbit ears...

RE: 25’ Class C. Ford vs Chevy opinion

I'd say that the OP needs to couple the RV manufacturer and floor plan to the Ford or Chevrolet he chooses. There's tons of Class C cutaway manufacturers. I'm just partial to believing that I'd choose a Mercedes Benz 3500 Diesel Sprinter chassis with the 24' slide by Winnebago the next time I buy a new C. I am in an orphan brand Class C right now, with the Ford E450 7.3 liter turbo diesel power plant. It's a matter of finding and choosing the right manufacturer for your liking.

RE: Compact Class C

^ It appears the OP's concern is with the MB GCWR and not the hitch capacity. GaryBut that's juxt opposed to the OP's requirements for a small Class C. So, that's not it. The 3500 Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis doesn't come any smaller than 3500 for a Class C cutaway. Sounds like he wants a Class B van. However, there's not one small E450 in a Class B. He's describing an E150, or E250, which again, is the basic van he's wanting.

RE: Compact Class C

Here’s what I’m looking for. I know they exist because I’ve seen them, but I can’t seem to find any manufacturer making them new. The Sprinter Chassis just doesn’t have enough towing capacity that I feel comfortable towing the Ranger with it. "The Sprinter Chassis just doesn’t have enough towing capacity that I feel comfortable towing the Ranger with it." WTF? How heavy is the Ranger? If it's too heavy, get a Wrangler.I don't think he's done his homework. At #5,000 capacity, the 3500 Sprinter chassis easily can tow a smallish pickup.

RE: Need some advice

I think your best bet would be to rent a large SUV for your travels, and stay in AirBandBs. Also, Hostels.

RE: Texas Hill Country Ideas

I wouldn't stay in San Antonio. That's not The Hill Country. Hill Country is somewhat North of San Antonio, and West of Austin. West of I-35. Along US 287 N is where you're going to find The Hill Country.

RE: Compact Class C

You're not going to find any Compact Cs, on the 2020 E450 Superduty chassis. Were you to find one, it'd be above the $130K price point new. A specialty off road type C.

RE: I-10 Closed Starts 9pm MST, Feb 9 in El Paso

Heads up: TxDot Crews will be shutting down a stretch of I-10 in west El Paso this weekend. Road restriping work set for Sunday, February 9, will require a 26-hour closure of I-10 West from Shuster to Sunland Park Drive from 4 a.m. through 6 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10. Crews will also be moving barriers along with restriping main lanes and shifting traffic flow. As a result, if you're heading to the far west side you will have to exit at Shuster and take the recently opened Border West Expressway via roundabout to continue on your travels. From Border West Expressway you can exit at Sunland Park, Resler, or get back onto I-10. Another hours-long closure that may impact you if heading west on I-10 Sunday night is the continuing work on the Mall Braided Ramps Project in the Cielo Vista Mall/Fountains at Farah area. Beginning Sunday, Feb. 9, at 9 p.m. there will be a complete closure of I-10 westbound between Hawkins and Airway. Info: This has been the case for the better part of a year. I-10 Westbound closed at 9 pm last June 2019 when I was there. Follow the detour signs and you'll have no trouble. You also have GPS Maps on your Smartphone. Not that big a deal.

RE: Charge for each pet ??? your thoughts

Too many people don't pick up after their pets. If the owner has to pay someone to constantly go around and clean up dog do, you couldn't blame them for charging extra. They could just raise the rates, but that wouldn't be fair to others who don't own pets. According to EVERYONE, they always pick up after their pets. The evidence seems to say otherwise. This ^^^^. And, the liability insurance coverage costs for the RV park.

RE: why only one page of posts?

This has been discussed at great length on different threads... The fact that almost EVERY question a newbie asks, they get flamed about everything... The new Comers just don't bother coming back in most cases... It's a shame, Once you sift through the rubbish, there really is some great information to be shared, and great people as well.. Heck, I've been here since 2008 and still learn stuff ....It's almost impossible to get interrogative answers from anyone in the know to them. I was trying to get specific testimonials or information, and you get replies like; Google it, or, far afield subject matter totally unrelated to the actual questions.

RE: Time for new tires?

YES! Last October I had a disastrous blowout on my Class C of a 5.5 year old Michelin. I’d had them all inspected by Discount Tire the day before. They looked perfect, had 4/32’s of tread and were aired up to the ideal psi. The damage totaled $4,131 and it could have been a lot worse as I was able to safely get over and off of the interstate. ANY tire over 5 years old is potentially dangerous and I will never own one again. :CWhat caused the blowout while driving? Which Michelin tire model were you running? Who has model did you replace them with?

RE: Jackknife sofa

Go with a Villa brand. That's the upgrade when choosing one.

RE: diesel class c

Some good comments and some real misinformation or lack of understanding in this thread. Costs to maintain and service are always subjective. There are very few people who are incapable of doing basic maintenance work on a vehicle, although many choose not to. That choice doesn’t mean it’s more expensive to own, it means you choose the easy way out which is more expensive. Not wrong, just not a fair comparison. It’s like me saying we hire a maid to clean the house therefore its more expensive to own a big house. No, it’s our choice to spend that money, not a necessary cost like taxes or purchase price. However, it appears the upcharge by coach builders is exorbitant. And if looking at overall “cost” one needs to consider the resale value. Even considering that, I feel that RV mfgs are soaking the public for the diesel option. Something that is a, say, $10k option in a bare vehicle is marked up 300% more when it comes with a house in a box on the back when the Diesel engine really has no negative impact on the cost of the box that’s attached to it.Whatever the engine up charge for diesel isn't the total reflection of the coach's cost. My diesel engine upgrade was $5K, period. There are no $10K to $20K, engine upgrades. That's a misnomer. Whatever upcharge the diesel option costs, it is returned 100% on sale day. Diesel MPG, is always a 20%+ bump. It pays to put miles on them. Additionally, there are no mileage deductions for diesel engine coach mileage. That alone makes the diesel highly favorable to gassers. NADA confirms it.

RE: diesel class c

don't forget that if you are financing the RV that the $20,000 will cost closer to $30,000 bumpyIt has no bearing whether the RV is financed or not. A $20K loan does not cost $10K either, in interest.

RE: diesel class c

thinking of trading our Class A for one of the smaller Class C diesel models, looking at Tiffin and Winnebago--can I get some comments pleaseI would only buy the Winnebago product line. It's not likely to go out of business as my Class C manufacturer Born Free did. Now, I can't find information on aftermarket parts and components suppliers when I need them. The Mercedes-Benz 3.0 turbodiesel 3500 Sprinter chassis would be my pick. They're awful pricey, which is why I keep my old Ford E450 7.3 turbodiesel Class C 24' coach.

RE: Micro Minnie

We have the 2019 Winnebago Micro Minnie 2108DS which we got last September, and love it. Seven foot width, tows great with our 2018 Ford F-150 using the Andersen "No Sway" Weight Distribution Hitch. First trip out was from Memphis to Helena, MT and back and no issues over the 4,000 plus miles through 8% mountain grades and high cross winds over the flat prairie lands. The Micro Minnie has the dinette slide, Murphy bed, and light interior which makes it feel very spacious. We looked at many and felt the Winnebago had much better quality, fit, and finish than others. What do these units run $ ?

RE: De-Fogging of RV Windows Shops?

+2 for Dave Root. we purchased the supplies from him and did 5 windows ourselves here in alaska. We plan to do 5 more next spring, which will get all the windows fog free. Would you have step by step instructions with sealant/s etc. to use on how to DIY, provided I can get the window out/off of the coach?
