RE: 1969 Custom VW "C"...

It’s good they upgraded the motor. The vans were already underpowered from vw I owned a 1958 VW Van when I was in the ARMY in Germany late 60's. It had the 40 hp engine and I put 2 carburetors on it (made a manifold) and it had way more power. On one gentle hill it would climb 15 mph faster than with single carb. Went to the 1969 German Grand Prix living in it for a week. I couldn't find a buyer for it and parked it in a gas station when I transferred out. :) (maybe it's still there??)

RE: Winnebago Electric Motorhome on a F-53 chassis

Where is all this magical electric going to come from even if the infrastructure to distribute it were there? High percentage- Fossil fuel, Nuclear!! DING! DING! Dreaming is fun but reality bites.

RE: Winnebago Electric Motorhome on a F-53 chassis

The model T replaced horses AND battery cars! Maybe they can put Windmills on top of the motorhome too. How much government money is being spent on this "research" ?

RE: Engine and coach Battery Disconnect Switches

I had a 1989 Class A that had the panel with the toggle switches. The switches controlled a "Latch Relay" (power one way closes relay, power other way opens, that's why rocker switch) that looked just like an automotive solenoid but it is not and costs close to $100. There was a 5 amp fuse near the relays and someone put in a 20 amp fuse, the switch stuck on and burned up the relay. Find the relays, look for a fuse, and make sure the switches aren't sticky!

RE: RV to power home temp

There are ways, legal and illegal ways to do it. Legal you use a transfer switch to lockout power company connection. Illegal you shut off main breaker and connect from gen to house wiring with jumper plug into dryer/range plug for 240 V. I have 3 generators and had to get by from 4 hours to up to 12 days with different storms.

RE: Installing a third seat is it possible?

Back when, Winnebago had a double bench passenger seat and it swiveled as I recall. Just googled and found this- https://www.ebay.com/i/332161262588?chn=ps Go on google and search for double passenger seat for more results.

RE: And so it goes, the cycle in Elkhart IN

Everytime I drive by an auto/truck or RV dealership I wonder who is going to buy the inventory I see sitting! Go by any private auto repair shop and there are so many vehicles there that don't seem to be there for repair with many for sale. There is so much used vehicle inventory. I watch boat ads on craigslist and the prices exceed common sense. A new $10 K boat 10 years ago is selling for $40-50 K now. A friend bought 2 new 300 hp outboard engines, list price was $40,000.

RE: Favorite Christmas recipes?

My favorite (Mom made growing up) cold weather food is Hot dogs with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes, lot's a butter! Also can of spinach drained, stir in 2 raw eggs and fry until eggs are cooked AND butter. YUM!

RE: How do you add gear oil to the front axle in an 07 F53?

Worked on, serviced semi's, trailers for 30 years. I kept hub oil in a 2 ltr soft drink bottle that was the right size to easily pour in hubs.

RE: What mixer to get?

I have had a OSTER Machine since the low 80's and am happy with it. It was $150. with attachments. I use it often. My sister said she would like to have one like it and I found one at a Flea Market with attachments for $26.00. I did have to order bowls for it and ebay had glass and stainless for it. While you are looking, I found a Salad Shooter at a thrift store for $5. and love it! I grow beets in my garden and it slices them very well and they are really tough raw. I found another one of those for my sister and sent it to her and she loves it also. Great for slicing, shredding/grating and easy clean up.

RE: Long Driving Days: Class A vs. Trailer

It all comes back to how the vehicle handles. I had a 1974 Winnebago Indian that handled so bad that when a semi passed it would blow it half a lane sideways! You had to watch the front and rear to be ready and counter steer. It made every mile longer. I had driven everything including semi's so it wasn't lack of experience.

RE: Intentional Leftovers

Not just the holidays! I always make about a 5 lb meatloaf (2 loaves) then portion it out and freeze about 4 lbs. When I want a meatloaf sandwich or dinner I am a couple minutes from it, just add veggies.

RE: locked brakes

As stated, rock it. Semi trailers can sit for years and that's the first step to get them unstuck. Also check to make sure they all released. And after driving a short distance check each wheel for heat from partial release.

RE: Ford 460 Class A question??

The first 3 codes would not cause a no start condition, would only cause open loop. 4th would give no spark. Changing the distributor would be easiest option and you might find u-tube instructions.

RE: Is 50 gallons of fresh water enough for boondocking?

My motorhomes always had an off/on button for the shower at the head. You adjust the temp, wet down, turn off, soap up, turn on and rinse! Saves a lot of water.

RE: Ford 460 Class A question??

Tank pressure sounds like an emissions problem. Fuel tanks are non-vented but pressure is controlled through canister, vacuum hose. Not sure how that would cause no start. ???

RE: Did you have red beets for dinner last night......?

I grow beets in my garden. I peel and slice them to cook them. I found the BEST slicer for them is a Salad Shooter that I bought at thrift store for $6. ! I have an expensive OSTER Machine but the Shooter does much better. When the Shooters were advertised on TV every year I thought they were a joke but now I would not be without it. Found another one cheap and sent it to my sister and she loves it also.

RE: Sales Advice - Lots f Interested Buyers!

You want "Pre-approved" buyers only and meet them at their bank/credit union and get secured funds with title exchange. If they haven't gone the pre-approved route they might be dreamers. There are so many scams going on, CYA!!!
