RE: AC easy start.

The Micro-air Easy Start reduces the A/C unit compressor LRA (locked rotor amperage) that draws a huge amount of power on start-up that smaller generators cannot produce. Once the A/C unit is running, the power draw greatly decreases. A quick Youtube video explains this- https://youtu.be/rCjFBhDy9QI

RE: Over weight? Does it bother you?

Practical experience here. Our former combination of the truck in my signature and a 2013 Eagle Cap 850. We traveled all over the northeast U.S. and Canada. The truck has airbags inflated to 30-35#, Rancho 9000 shocks, 3970# rated tires and a BigWig sway bar. Never had any sweaty palm moments when driving. Truck handled like it just had a heavy load in the bed, nothing bad. Never felt unsafe. I wouldn't risk our lives if I ever felt otherwise. Coming back from a trip we happened to drive by a CAT scale. The camper had about 25 gallons of fresh water and our gear/clothing/etc. Wife and I in the cab with her two large dogs in the back seat. The truck had a GVWR sticker of 9500#. Here's my CAT scale print out. We were on the road and 2280# over GVWR. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/49573242708_2f2e2f9d8e_o.jpg The reason why we now have a 5th wheel is because SWMBO wanted a couch, dry bath and a bed that she didn't have to launch herself into to go to sleep. I was happy with the TC.

RE: Prepping RV for private sale

AS others have mentioned, NADA prices are all over the place. Either way high or stupid low. Look at what $$$ other similar units are selling for. Damage? Fix it. Otherwise it will turn buyers off.

RE: Break away cable

Just as you aren't supposed to attach the break away cable to the drawbar of a trailer hitch, I was under the impression that for a fifth wheel the cable is to be attached to the truck, and not any part of the hitch. The theory is that if ANY part of the fifth wheel hitch fails, by attaching the cable to the truck (like one of the tie down loops that is in the truck bed) the entire fifth wheel hitch could be completely torn out of the truck bed but the break away switch would still be activated- however ridiculous that seems.

RE: Weights. Am I missing something?

Hey Dean, We are now pulling a short 5th wheel (the boss's idea) but before this had a Lance 855s then an Eagle Cap 850. Both very heavy but the truck in our signature handled them well. We went with OEM steel wheels and mounted 4 Nitto Dura Grappler highway tread 285/75-17 tires rated at 3970# each. Timbrens on the rear axle. We traveled all over the northeast US and Canadian Maritimes and never had a problem. Good luck with your decision. You have a good truck for a TC once you beef up the tires and suspension. Weight police, take the day off.

RE: "Lite" 5th wheels

No problems at all with '16 Cougar X-lite 25RKS that we bought 2 years ago, barely used by the previous owner. I wanted a short unit, but almost every non-lite 5th wheel was longer. Our truck/5th length is 41' total. :) Maybe a compromise in quality for better maneuverability since we rarely stay in one place more that a couple nights. Also we tend to be gentle with RVs and stay on top of any maintenance.

RE: Rodent???

Take some time and look for any opening, large or small and fill it with this http://www.touch-n-foam.ca/cmss_files/attachmentlibrary/Mouse-Shield_CANADA.jpg Also build one or two buckets of death and place them outside the RV. You want to make rodents want to go where they smell food (peanut butter) instead of going into your unit. https://i.pinimg.com/originals/eb/64/1c/eb641c8a79498e6bd122b2b117cbfbf5.jpg The ones I built have tight snap on lids because I pour windshield washer fluid into the bottom (poisonous to wife's dogs) instead of plain water. That way it stays liquid all winter long. Last winter I bagged more than 2 dozen mice. RIP varmints.

RE: pulling fifth wheel with f250 supercab 6.2L engine

You will be OK. Our 5th is 6900# dry and we easily pull it with our 2012 Chevy 6.0 gas. Diesel? G rated tires? The OP isn't asking about pulling a 40' trailer.

RE: need new tires

Right now 4 GY Endurance 225/75-15 $460 delivered from Discount Tire Direct. I mount and balance tires myself which keeps the cost down. But anyone who thinks that going somewhere to buy tires and have them mounted and balanced is expensive should think about the cost if a crappy tire explodes while traveling.

RE: You think only TC has COG problem?

I checked the date- wanted to be sure I hadn't woken from a coma and it's April 1. No way would it lift the front. Engine and trans are heavier than 3 people and are further from the rear axle than those folks could be.
