RE: Dual 6-volt battery box for TC wheel well

I have not used 6 vt batteries so have never tried that. But I have carried 2 - 12 vt in Boat boxes ahead of wheel well in truck bed for years. Access through the floor level door. There is plenty of room for standard boat box in mine. Made platform to get above curve of bed and spacer blocks to keep them from sliding around. Generally load them before the TC. I started using 12 vt batteries so I could just rotate them out of the boat every couple of years so I always have fresh starting batteries in the boat. Kind of hard to jump start the boat out on the water! :)

RE: What percent of the time do you leave your TC on your truck?

Up until this year TC was loaded just during summer months ready to go. When the rains start in OR (approx Oct) - TC use to go in a barn. Barn entrance would not tall enough....so we built a trailer for the TC. I lost access to that barn this spring...so TC lives on Truck under a cover in a storage yard for now. I prefer to store the TC undercover when possible. BTW - I love drive our DRW F350, however, when in most parking lots in Eugene - I need to put a tire on each parking lot strip to park. - classic liberal town!

RE: Our bumpy intro to truck campers and our Bigfoot score

Sounds like you found a great rig! Another thought on your A/C - When we purchased our TC used about 12 years ago, we had a dealer install an A/C unit before we ever used the TC.It was and still is our first TC. Now we realize that we do almost all our camping in the PNW so I think for us the A/C was a mistake. I can only think of 2 times in 12 years that we have actually used the A/C, and we really could have done without it those time. The extra height is a real hassle for us storing. I would have had a lot more options without that extra height. Just a thought before you "cut the hole". I do get the attraction, and if I were expecting to do a lot of camping in the south west I would have a different opinion. I guess the point is, and just a suggestion, to think about where you plan to use your camper before you cut the hole in your roof.

RE: Quick Connect for Extra Batteries in truck bed?

Thank you everyone for the ideas both on connectors and set up. All good. Looks like I was just using wrong terms for my google search! These are exactly what I was looking for! I was just thinking a little too limited, the winch, tow truck jumpers and Aircraft make so much sense. Special thanks to fpoole - for the photos and extension cord idea! Traver8 - I agree a 12 vdc CPAP option would likely be cheaper...but I am always amazed at the extra stuff we (especially when grand children are with us) end up plugging in for the 110 vac. AND I just kind of like the redundancy of the extra battery capacity. It has proven helpful on more than one occasion. Any other ideas on "Threads" here for installation ideas would be very welcome. As I mentioned in original post, I know i have seen some here, but have been stumped on "Search Words" to find.

Quick Connect for Extra Batteries in truck bed?

Looking for recommendations for power connections for extra batteries in my truck bed? I have carried 2 extra batteries in bed of truck for years now to power my inverter for 110 AC power for my CPAP. Have just run cables out thru one of the "basement" side hatches to connect. While this works, it is way past time to replace this "make shift" solution. I really like the absolute separation from the "house" system batteries, so neither system can drain the other by mistake. I am thinking of something like the twist locks often used on marine shore power systems, but think there must be something made for 12 volt systems other than the classic cigarette lighter style plug/socket set. The ones I have seen so far just don't seem like they would take the load. Also know i have seen threads about adding extra batteries in truck bed, but I am not coming up with the right search terms to find them. Suggestions both for plug in connections and search terms for thread or links? Thanks.
