RE: How many TT are 7' wide?

If I remember correctly, Casitas are 6'11" wide. That was in 2006 and they may be a little wider now. Call the Casita factory in Rice, Texas, and they can tell you exactly.

Thanks, John, for your insight regarding possibly coating Eternabond on my trailer. I deeply appreciate all the great help you have given to this forum's members throughout the years, John. I had even considered and thought about spraying some paint primer on the Eternabond plastic to making coatings stick better and longer. The jury is still out for me as to what I am going to do. I am leaning, as mentioned, not even coating over the Eternabond. I feel it is a remarkable product is used correctly. You have me beat on care of your roof, John. Yours looks great. Much better than mine. And I also should have used 303 Protectant on mine through the years. Your roof is a testimony to that product. I also am a big fan on 303 protectant, and have used it regularly on my 2002 Ford F250 7.3 Powerstroke dash and interior for about eighteen years. I am proud to say my dash and interior still looks nice for an old truck with close to 250K miles, most of which has been pulling our camper. We sometimes travel to the Rocky mountains in North New Mexico and Southern Colorado at 8500 feet, which does a real number that high with UV deterioration on vehicles and camper roofs unless there is protection on the dash and interior. Same goes for camper roofs. Later during the first year of ownership of our twelve year old camper, I replaced about eighty percent of all the exterior screws with stainless screws. I also used a small piece of doublestick Eternabond on each screw prior to sinking it, thus making a seal around each screw head. Yes, this took a very long time and stainless screws were not cheap. Also removed each marker light and tail light and made gaskets of doublestick Eternabond and replaced screws with stainless screws. All of this to prevent leaks. My wife and I are now in our seventies. Like you, we do not plan on ever selling our camper. When the end of our camping days arrives, we plan on selling our camper at a very low price or perhaps giving it to a deserving young couple just starting out who will take care of it. When that day arrives, I expect the Eternabond and stainless screws will still be holding up fine. I would hope that whatever roof coating I decide to use will also be holding up well. Mike

I have great respect for John's wisdom also. I go back twelve years when we bought our trailer. At that time when it was only a month old, I spent a lot of time putting Eternabond on all of the seams and every penetration on the roof. Lots of Eternabond on our roof. I have become a big fan of Eternabond. It shoows no sign of failing what-so-ever. Over 75K plus miles and twelve years, we have been blessed by never having a leak. So perhaps I should consider only coating the portion of the roof that does not have EBond. Again, thanks to everyone who has kindly offered their opinions and help on this topic.

Thanks everyone for their posts. Heng's seem to have a good following. However it is interesting that no one has used Proguard, which has a five year warranty if applied properly.

Best Roof Coating

Trying to decide on a roof coating for our small twelve year old Sunnybrook. The following are highly rated: Proguard, Heng's, Kool Seal, and Dicor. I would appreciate comments about any of these from experienced users in order to help make a decision. Thanks so much! Mike

As an older couple, my wife and I have been camping and pulling trailers nearly 50 years now. In thinking back over the years, I believe the number one failure we have seen on trailers/fifth wheels are tires. Next it seems broken springs rank number two, along with wheel bearing failures, when it comes to towing travel trailers/fifth wheels. Perhaps others can mention other failures that we can use as preventive measures; not only for our family's safety, but for others traveling as well. We can all benefit from safety knowledge.

Thanks Huntindog, for the response. I had wet bolts installed when I bought the trailer, so perhaps that has helped, along with the Equaflex suspension. No sagging at all, just old OE springs with a lot of miles on them. Yes, perhaps the steel was better back in 2009.

Leaf Spring Replacement

Is it necessary to replace leaf springs on a travel trailer as preventive maintenance? Our small Sunnybrook travel trailer is twelve years old, been a joy to own without any major problems. I estimate my wife and I have pulled it about seventy thousand miles since we bought it new. Should I give consideration to replacing its leaf springs? They seem to be fine, other than being old. But I do not want to have a spring to fail in the middle of nowhere. Would appreciate advice from seasoned RVers. Thanks in advance.

Deltabravo is right. Nash is now aluminum framed, according to their website. This is causing me and my wife to now consider the Nash 23D, as we like shorter trailers.

As I mentioned, it has a carb fuel drain screw that is easily seen and accessible when you open the side panel door. It function is to drain fuel from the carb and gas line when the generator is going to be stored for a while. Easy to use. As mentioned before, I did not even know it was there all these years. Never too old to learn, I guess.

Just want to add, for those who may attempt the carb cleaning job, my carb looked perfectly clean. It was spotless. Apparently there was some unseen minor dirt or something hid in one of the jets or body that the cleaning removed. Hope the above helps someone. Mike

No question, the newer diesels are much more powerful and nicer than our old 2002 7.3 diesel. I have been told, however, by diesel mechanics/technicians, to BE SURE to get a warranty of some type if I were to buy a newer used diesel three or four years old.

My 2002 SRW F-250 is a 4X2 also and has the twin I-beam suspension. Very tough and comfortable ride. However, I believe for safety, my next truck, if I buy one, will be a four wheel drive. Friends of mine, who own them, tell me if you ever need 4WD one time to get you out of a jam, it will have paid for itself. We love our old Ford 7.3 Powerstroke! Loud, but simple, dependable old truck. Cast iron block and cast iron heads, six head bolts per cylinder, external oil cooler and its injection system sourced from Caterpillar, from what I read. But the amenities, comfort, and safety features of the new trucks sure are appealing. And the new Ford 7.3 gas engine seems to be built for toughness, simplicity and longevity, according to Ford's brochures. I hope it is a great success for Ford.

My hearing aids pick up the road and engine noise of our 7.3 diesel more these days. Hearing inside the cab to my bride of 57 years is more difficult. Some might say it is an advantage! It is my understanding the 7.3 diesel engine (International 444T) was designed for International school buses and garbage trucks in the 80s. Perhaps that explains why kids used to come out with their school books when I pass down a street! Considering this, it sure would be nice to have a quiet cab with upgrades that help with safer driving and towing, like lane change alerts, backup cameras and 360 degree cameras. Not to mention heated seats for my old bones! The larger gas tank, if an option, would be something to consider.

Thanks, everyone, especially Bob and John. Wife and I use cut-out reflextic material from Lowes (like truck/car bubble foil for windshield/dash to keep sun out) for each window and put it between the blinds and windows at night. And it greatly helps with window insulation, not only in winter but with our 104 degree Texas days. I was surprised at how much it helped. I offer this cheap/easy idea for folks that need just a little help with their window insulation.

Thanks for the input, everyone. I would like to think old 7.3 diesel is in good shape. We keep good Bilstein shocks on it, Michelin tires, kept all the fluids changed and never abused it. Garage kept. Most of its life, and has been pulling trailers and highway use, but that are what diesels are engineered for. I probably won't wear it out; it will wear us out! However, the 7.3 gas engine was engineered for simplicity, hard use, and built with HD parts, I read. I admire that. So it is certainly an option for us if we ever decide to part with our trusty "Bubba". Just wish reported MPG was better.
