Of course, yo,u are wildly below typical usage (ie: no one is marketing based on your mileage). Average is around 12-15k miles per year. That's good news. It means that in slightly more than 15 months a BEV reaches parity in co2 emissions--and from then on is less carbon intensive than an ice. I do drive my RV (other than the last 2 years) far more than my car. I wish I could get a BEV RV, but sadly such an item is beyond my beer budget. Hate to be a party pooper, but what BEV has carbon parity to a comparable ICE vehicle at around 20k miles? Here is Volvo's data for their XC40--on a global mixed grid (which is what USA has) it will take much more than 15 months. At 12k miles/year, carbon parity on the XC40 will be achieved in 7.5 years--just about 2.5 years before the battery pack's end of useful life (10 years). I don't think there is any disagreement that most new ideas/things/philosophies are oversold and are under-delivered (broken promises). Team BEV speak as if there is a magic "perpetual motion" type technology capable of generating 100% clean energy; hence BEV is the only answer for everyone (good) and ICE is pit-to-we (bad). Simple binary option--either you're with us or against us. One size fits all. Team ICE speak of multiple options that include both BEVs and ICE (personal preference/freedom of choice) and question the accuracy of the "sales pitch" proffered by Team BEV. From Wiki--Perpetual motion is the motion of bodies that continues forever in an unperturbed system. A perpetual motion machine is a hypothetical machine that can do work infinitely without an external energy source. This kind of machine is impossible, as it would violate either the first or second law of thermodynamics or both. If my clean is your dirty...then is it possible your clean is my dirty? In some of the prior EV threads, I illustrated my situation that since my wife and I each drive 3-4k miles a year, it will take at least 15 years BEFORE the carbon footprint of the BEV will be less than a comparable ICE (cradle to grave). Sorry, no one size fits all; not all drivers drive the same. The car culture in So Cali is unlike most of America--mass transit is not king; any day of the week 9 out of 10 cars on the 405 Freeway have zero passengers; just the driver. Sometimes my correct answer is your incorrect answer.

Timmo, We can agree that our society needs to reuse and recycle. One of my cell phones is from 2015, the other from 2017. Both still have good battery life. The one from 2017 doesn't have a user replaceable battery. I applaud the few RV's who are using repurposed EV batteries for their house banks. Smelting aluminum is often done with power from hydroelectric plants. I think the temperature is about 1200 c (2192 f). Yep, smelting is not an environmentally clean process (who would buy a house next to a smelting plant?). Of course sourcing all electrical generation from hydro plants would be nice ending to this fairy tale story, but it is not practical. How many more hydro dams can be built on the Colorado River? None is what my people tell me. Imagine the challenge of shipping expired BEV lithium batteries from Hawaii to the wastelands of Nevada (USA's hub for destructive open pit lithium mining and battery production operations). You know the pristine area near the Oregon and Nevada border where several Indian tribes also call home, known as Thacker Pass. Imagine all the hazmat (expired batteries) being shipped by rail for recovery. Is the current plan to let someone else in the future solve this riddle? If so, remember what happened to nuke waste.....like I said, some of us old folks have seen this movie before (including the B&W and the updated Technicolor version).

At 55 mph, my 2005 F150 (less than 77k miles) towing my 20' Nash I am blessed with 10-12 mpg; at 75 mph I am blessed with 8-9 mpg. And both the trailer and truck bed are fully loaded (water, food, beer, firewood, gear, tools, etc). When trailer is empty, add 2-3 mpg. Highway mileage--my F150 routinely blesses me with 15-17 mpg (and that's with regular gas that's ethanol blended). Stop and go city driving I get 11-12 mpg. IMO, sometimes that extra 10 mph (75 mph) is not financially worth it, even with an oversized gas tank.

No and No you do not need WD bars. Please explain? The hitch on 150 are rated for 500lb weight carrying. His tongue weight will be over 500lbs. While no he doesn't need the WDH to move it in the drive way. It would be unsafe on the highway, not to mention it would unload the front axle and cause sway with out the WDH. And of courser it is possible I misunderstood your post. Hmmm, my 2005 F150 has a 5,000 lb trailer (towing) capacity with a 500 lb tongue limit, but with WD, the numbers nearly double to 9,900 lb and 990 lbs respectively. So, yes the WD bars increase the tongue's load capacity but hard to imagine that moving a 4900 lb rated trailer in his driveway would overburden his truck.

Timmo solar is under $1 per watt installed. Where are you buying fuel at those prices today? You have not factored in maintenance. My Yamaha wants oil every 50 hours. If I relied on it totally and ran 24/7 that's every two days, two hours. I am not the author of that excel spreadsheet, but the variables can be changed easily. Just saying this analysis indicates the financial breakeven is years for heavy users...probably never for weekenders. If my conclusion is wrong, then please correct me with your facts. My Honda 2000 cost me about $750 a decade or so and is running strong (equivalent cost of $0.375 per watt (2000w) and $0.469 (1600w)...about 2-3 times lessor than your $1/watt system). In my world, it takes me less than 2 hours each morning to fully charge a pair of 6 volt golf cart batteries. We use our TT about 60-70 days each year.

Here is something published about a year ago--- And remember, we don't know...what we don't know. ...With the development of electric vehicles involving lithium ion batteries as energy storage devices, the demand for lithium ion batteries in the whole industry is increasing, which is bound to lead to a large number of lithium ion batteries in the problem of waste, recycling and reuse. If not handled properly, it will certainly have a negative impact on the environment and resources.... The Methods of Recovering Lithium Ion Batteries Recycling for LIBs usually involves both physical and chemical processes (Harper et al., 2019). Due to the complex assembly process of LIBs and the wide variety of electrodes, it brings great danger for the recovery of battery. The explosion, combustion and poisonous gas brought on the recovery process are easy to cause casualties. To reduce this risk, spent LIBs usually need to be discharged before recycled. Physical processes usually include pretreatment and direct recovery of electrode materials. These processes usually include disassembly, crushing, screening, magnetic separation, washing, heating treatment, etc. Chemical processes can be divided into pyrometallurgical and hydrometallurgical processes, which usually involve leaching, separation, extraction and chemical/electrochemical precipitation. BTW, the pyrometallurgical process requires furnace temps excess of 700 degrees Celsius (about 1300 degrees Fahrenheit)...which will require the input of fossil fuels. How many thousands of gallons of water are required to extinguish BEV fires? How many lbs of heavy metals are released while BEV's roast like marshmallows? (Per Tesla advice of letting BEV fires burn out naturally). Oh what tales we weave.... How many ice fires last year? 150,000. I think EV fires are much less of a problem. Dealerships don't love BEV technology because there is so little to fix. No more oil changes, longer lasting brakes, and the like. How is replacing "bad" ICE vehicles with an equivalent "bad" BEV progress? Especially at a significant financial premium? We don't know what we "don't know". What is the salvage/recycle plan when replacing BEV lithium batteries (sourced from open pit mining operations) at the "end of life"--or every 10 or so years? For us that have been around, do remember the promises made by the "alternative energy" elites about clean nuclear energy...problem was not the operations of nuke plants, but what to do with the nuke waste. What is the disposal plan for expired lithium batteries? Many of us have seen this movie before.

At what point does the accumulated emissions from the generator's manufacture and operation match that of the solar panel emissions? If we take a page from the BEV's breakeven analysis, then it probably is several years away for heavy RV users and probably never for the occasional weekender.

And...without WD bars, it will be easier to make tight twists and turns while backing into tight spots. After awhile, you can start collecting style points --for perfectly aligning your TT with driveway's edge. Geometric perfection is a sweet sight.

And here in "south-central" Oregon, the Fremont-Winema National Forest Service has a personal use firewood program that is a win-win: fallen trees are cleared (from recent fires) in exchange for firewood at $5/cord. Those wishing to cut their own firewood can obtain a woodcutting permit from the Fremont-Winema National Forest Supervisor's Office or local District Offices on the Forest. Oregon to spend $50 million on new campsites, park imprvmnts

In an incredibly generous act, the 2021 Oregon Legislature approved the issuance of $50 million in General Obligation bonds to fund state park facility improvements. Debt Service on these bonds will be paid with state general funds instead of requiring park funding to cover this cost. This funding will focus on improving or replacing facilities and infrastructure, as well as modernizing and expanding some campgrounds. The agency will receive two disbursements of $25 million each, with the first occurring May 2022 and the second in March 2023. These funds must be spent within three years of payout. ...Capital Improvement and Renewal: $50,000,000 Other Funds (Article XI-Q Bonds) is approved to finance the capital costs of making improvements to facilities in multiple Oregon state parks. The project includes improvements or replacements to facilities and related infrastructure such as buildings, water systems, septic and sewer systems, electrical systems, restroom and shower facilities, as well as modernizing and expanding campgrounds. Sure happy Oregon prefers using the traditional definition of "infrastructure". RE: Tongue/Hitch Weight Conundrum

JP, Can you find a trailer to match your SUV? Yes, but we all know the choices are limited. But will you enjoy it?....that is the question I would be asking myself. Then ask yourself, how long will you own the brand new travel trailer? Decades is the answer for many of us. So...maybe the best answer is to match your tow vehicle to the targeted trailer. My truck can tow over 9000 lbs, but my travel trailer fully packed might weigh 7000 lbs, hitch rated for 1000 lbs and my Nash is around 750 lbs...those are nice safety margins.

Sad to see a biz go up in flames, but it does remind me of a story of 2 retired gents at a bar-- First one asks, "so you retired?" The second one says, "Yeah, sorta--a nasty fire destroyed my business and decided to retire with all the dough we got from the insurance company." The first one says, "Yeah me too, except a flood wiped my business right off the map and the insurance settlement offered was about twice the value of my business. Hard to say no." After several moments of silence, the first one asks, "so, how do you start a flood?"

Timmo!, yeah we have 1550 square foot, small and perfect for the two of us. large yard with all the amenities for our RV, parking on both sides of the house, one side for rv including water, sewer and electric, the other side small shop and of course couldn't have it any nicer. we bought at the bottom of the recent downturn, put about $60 into it and rebuilt it to what we wanted and now enjoy it while we are here and also enjoy our traveling home too!. But yet I agree, I could get well over $300 for it, but would only have to pay about $450 to get what we have. I am happy with my smaller home and Travel Trailer. I don't understand this thing where everything has to be Bigger and Bigger. One of the biggest problems I've always had with buying a newer Travel Trailer is finding on that is of modest size. Some of us entertain clients & friends in our home (large dining area), have family and friends stay over (spare bedrooms) and work from home (office and shop space). So in my world, a 4 bedroom house for my wife and I works perfectly--as we are a "destination" for many peeps. We just stole our current rural home a few months ago: 2.25% interest on VA loan for 2+ acre parcel, with a 2100 sft house, plus big garage and shop, and (drum roll please) our property line includes river frontage. Across the river is the federal forest (no neighbors), and since the rivers in southern Oregon are renown for trout fishing....guess who can eat fresh fish weekly? Hard to find a home that's under 2000 sft that has both acreage and river frontage. These are the reasons why we live in a "bigger" home.

What do you mean when will an rv cost the same as a home? We paid 70K for our home at the bottom in 2012, we bought our full size fifth wheel, fall of 2019, $55K. there are a multitude of rv's out there well over 100K. :) LOL, I never considered a "shotgun shack" to be a "modest home". But then one's "modesty" can easily be another person's "luxury". Today's cost to build a home is $100-150 per square foot...could not imagine living in a home that's less than 2,000 square feet. Hard to say what $70k will buy you today.
