RE: SpaceX's Starlink internet authorized for RVs

There have been several Facebook groups dedicated to it for over six months. The FCC really had no choice and no one cared about them. Bill

RE: Fuel savings at Pilot/Flying J

I only fill up at a truck stop if I'm pulling in there to sleep. I can always find fuel cheaper by at least $.20 a gallon elsewhere. And yes I drive a 40' DP and a pull a toad. I figure that in the last four years that I got new free steering wheels by not using truck stops. Bill

RE: Disadvantages of flipping trailer axles?

Mine were flipped and larger axles added. This gave me larger brakes and allowed for 16" tires to be used for better margins on weight the axles and tires could handle in addition to raising the trailer. It was a great mod. Bill

RE: I'm on a mission

Have you tried Fleetwood themselves? We've found that on a few parts they've had new batches make. Bill

RE: Garmin 890RV trouble and fix

Is there another way to update your Garmin without using express? The other useful feature of Express is it will tell you how many updates are waiting for your GPS - assuming you have registered it. And there was a new update to Express in May I believe. Bill

RE: Painting travel trailer white to reduce heat in summer?

You should put your money into a second A/C and a larger generator if you're going to AZ for the summer. The winters there are plenty warm for me, I always leave in March. Bill

RE: If’s you’re headed North….

The last couple of years there have been a lot of commercial solar installs going in both on buildings and out in the bush to save money from running the diesel generators. I'm not a green person by any stretch of the imagination, but yes there is a lot of solar power here and I like to see it because once it's paid for, it's almost free electricity from there on. I just received my 400W solar kit for my TT. Installation starts next week and two more 6V batteries. Bill Solar will work in the summer but the initial implication that you will meet or exceed daily output compared to down south is false. Who said we would exceed solar collection down south? I just said there is plenty of solar here to make it worthwhile. It's especially worthwhile for the summer tourism industry that does their main business during the summer. Some one in AZ may get by with 200W, so I put 400W on my RV and will do just fine. Besides, how many people use their RV in the middle of winter well below zero. A few, but not many. Bil Permanent installations only work if they are heavily subsidized but that's often true down south...as someone else mentioned, solar needs basically 100% backup from traditional sources and those costs are rarely if ever considered when you hear about solar costs.

RE: Air line filter

On my 2005 Fleetwood Discovery 39S, I believe it is part of the air dryer unit which is behind the drive axle on the left side. Bill

RE: Planning a trip to Alaska sometime 2023

You can also use a certified copy of your birth certificate. If you don't want to pay for a full passport, buy just the pass port card. A driver's licence will not get you through. There's a lot more info over here. Please check out their tabs. https://www.facebook.com/groups/782032812734226/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=1053833602220811 Bill

RE: New Blackstone Owner - Do I still need my grill?

I have a two burner griddle. I really like it, but I need more practice (or something) doing steaks. They don't seem to come out as well as on the BBQ. How do some of you cook them on the griddle. I go out moose hunting for a good three weeks. With the griddle, I've quit taking the camp stove. I'd like to quit taking the BBQ also to save more room. Bill

RE: Going to Canada in a Camper?

Canadian Customs can ask for insurance covering your vehicle while in Canada. We just called our State Farm agent and they emailed us a statement saying it was covered. You don't need a tourist visa, but pay attention to their Covid vaccine/testing requirements. No one is going to question you about importing your vehicle for sale in Canada. If you have a gun and insist on taking it, follow their rules. Not following them will probably get you in more trouble than anything else. I have a friend who insisted on taking his pistol. He got arrested and and lost his TC. Bill

RE: Oil change

Call up an official Sprinter dealer and ask them what they're putting in it. Personally I'd use the Mobile 1. Bill

RE: 2012 Ford Expedition Towing 30' Travel Trailer

Yes, there were 3/4T, 4X4 Suburbans with either the 350 or 454 engine. I used one for years to pull a four place enclosed snow machine trailer and it did fine with the 350. I don't know if the 4X4 Excursions are rated at 3/4T or not? Bill

RE: Sodium Ion battery

Thanks for the post Don, I'd like to see a good cold weather battery for -70F. I looked at your attachment, but way too complicated for my little mind. I'll wait for others to decipher it. Bill

RE: New 16" trailer wheels

Go to eTrailer.com I’ve bought wheels from them. Very helpful. They don't ship free to Alaska. Very high freight. I alrea day checked. Bill
