RE: California Firearm Compliance

http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/forumdisplay.php?f=349 The best resource I can think of is Calguns.

RE: California Firearm Compliance

In CA transportation of a handgun must be done with the gun unloaded in a locked container, your glove box does not count. Long guns must be in a case designed to carry firearms, but not required to lock them, and must be unloaded during transportation. No magazines over 10 rounds, to possess is a felony. Once you are parked the firearms must not be accessible by anyone under the age of 16, but you can have them out and loaded. No SBR's, full auto or suppressors. CA does consider your RV your home and we do have a castle law with no duty to retreat. Now the real question is, what county are going to be in? The coastal counties can be very unfriendly towards firearms vs the central counties being, for the most part, rather libertarian towards them. Do not carry without a CCW issued by a county sheriff, and really, your not going to be able to get one. You can try contacting the DOJ but they are notorious for being unresponsive and unwilling to actually answer any questions when you do get ahold of them.

RE: Death Valley over New Years.

Time to pack up the Jeep and head over there, what we're the temps? Just beautiful photos, haven't been there since I was a kid.

RE: Emergency! Need a way from Hawaii to California no flying!

I would check with another doctor . As a SCUBA instructor I have never heard of a "No Fly " for that length of time ! Unfortunately the order came down from the Dive Center the Coast Guard runs in Oahu, a second doctor was consulted and came to the same conclusion.

RE: Emergency! Need a way from Hawaii to California no flying!

Well, we contacted the port agent in Hilo, no cargo line offers this here, cruise lines are booked, so she going to be staying for the next 3 weeks until she can fly. Thanks for the help everyone!

RE: Emergency! Need a way from Hawaii to California no flying!

Thanks everyone, Matson has a ship leaving Hilo tomorrow for Oakland, fingers crossed, otherwise we will be contacting the various cruise lines to see what's available. Or she gets a 3 weeks paid vacation in Hawaii...

RE: Emergency! Need a way from Hawaii to California no flying!

We are looking into this, I am wondering if anyone has any experience booking passage on a cargo ship? It seems this may be an option.

Emergency! Need a way from Hawaii to California no flying!

Sorry for the off topic, but my wife and I were scuba diving yesterday morning in Kona, Hawaii. She experienced chest pains, we went to the emergency room where after a CT scan the doctor says she has barotrauma to her chest. The doctor contacted the Dive Center on Oahu and they said no flying for 3 weeks. So with all that said, fellow travelers, what's the quickest way to get off the big island and back to the mainland, preferably the port of Oakland but I will take anything that works without flying. Thanks!

RE: When The Bridge Has A 10 Ton Limit.............

In the County I live in, the power company sent a 50 ton crane with pole trailer over a bridge that was posted at 10 tons. This is a one lane wooden bridge built in the 1930's. The front tires of the crane fell through the deck, his front axle caught some stringers before completely falling through. So yeah, those postings mean something. The electric company got a rather large bill for the repairs.

RE: Help with auxiliary fuel tank decision or replacement.

I have a 60 gallon RDS tank with to box, it gives me more than 12 hours of drive time with the trailer. So plenty of time to find a campground, go do our touring, then find up before fueling and hooking up and moving on. I consider it a convenience that I can choose when to stop on my terms and not when forced to by necessity.

RE: Trying to find a semi-cool dark place to watch the meteors

The local astronomy club uses a campground at Eastman Lake in Madera County, California, on the west side of the Sierra's. I have gone up there myself and can tell you that i have seen the sky glow myself, no light pollution, darkness gets down to about magnitude 11 or so and with the current weather conditions things have been nice and clear.

RE: Trailer balance and leveling

Thanks everyone, I wasn't planning on using a weight distribution hitch, not enough tongue weight, it only drops my rear bumper 2". The trailer is a 26' tandem axte. I will see if I can find a drop hitch, I need one for my Jeep trailer anyway.

Trailer balance and leveling

Quick question, My father in law bought a travel trailer a couple of weeks ago while visiting, he lives 300 miles away and over the Sierra's near Reno, I'm near Fresno, CA. My truck is set up for my 14,000 lbs. Toy hauler, his new to him trailer weighs 5,600 but my hitch is waaaay too high. I have a lower hitch but not enough, I have towed his trailer for about 15 miles and hardly knew it was behind me. My main concern is having his trailer riding nose high while I take it to him next weekend. I plan on filling the water tank for the trip to help prevent sway, but I don't think it will be enough. How crucial is for the trailer to be level?
